If you've lived through the 80s and want want a flashback to the 80s, go for it. It was very good. I lived through the 80s and I remember what's being talked about/mentioned. I gave it 5 stars.

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments That's what I've heard. I'm an 80s child, I hit highschool in '83 and started university before the 80s were done. It's on my potential reads, but I'm always looking for reasons to get things into the read really soon pile.

Here's a review from one of my favorite reviewers of it: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Caleb Blake (caleb72) | 437 comments I have Ready Player One on my TBR pile as well. Thanks for the recommendation and the review link from MrsJ.

I'm a child of the 80s so I'm thinking I'll have fun with this one.

The reviewer made a very poor mistake. If he thinks the book is that good, then it's not 4 to 4.5 stars. It's 5 stars. Just wrong to not give it 5 stars with a review like that.

Well, if you follow his reviews you'd see his 5 star books. *kisses air* so delicious!

It's a matter of prospective.

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments Rating based on a five-value Likert scale is pretty much useless. Add in that four of the five are actually reasonably positive and it's skewed as well. On MobileRead I use a 9-point scale because not every 4/5 star book is the same. 9 is outstanding 7 and 8 are varying scales of very good, 5 and 6 are varying scales of readable and worthwhile 3 and 4 are relative poor books and 1 and 2 are for varying scales of atrocities to mankind.

I soooo agree! I would love to rate on a 10 point scale here. Or at least have 1/2 stars and a bomb...for books that should be detonated before they are allowed to traumatize others.

JSWolf | 22 comments a 10-star scale would be give us a more realistic rating. That would be very nice.

Caleb Blake (caleb72) | 437 comments Unfortunately, for every worthless piece of crap there's an abundance of 5 star reviews. :|

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Then you have people like me, who are not above giving a book 4 stars for unintentional hilarity. :D Guess that makes me one of those that people complain about in the GR Group - "People don't use ratings PROPERLY! It messes up the SYSTEM! It's not RIGHT!"

Caleb Blake (caleb72) | 437 comments Christa - I will now start calling you the proverbial fly in the ointment. I guess the modern version is a black fly in my chardonnay.

Ah Alanis - you'll reform the English language yet.

Thankyou India.

JSWolf | 22 comments I just finished reading Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. The ending kinda was a bit abrupt. But overall, not bad. I'm giving it 3 stars.
