Salman Rushdie, Alasdair Gray, Will Self, Philip K Dick and Neal Stephenson. but I admit I'm oversensitive.
I think the 5-year-old question was intended to be "What other authors come to mind when you read Pynchon?" And that's a decent question I have no answer for, not being too familiar with Pre-Lot 49 voices. R.e. the 6 month old response: I'm 2/3 through Cryptonomicon and from the first pages I've been thinking "this is like Gravity's Rainbow imagined as a Hollywood blockbuster."
