"Understanding Poetry: A Course in Eight Lessons".

The webpage is designed by Linda Sue Grimes.

How did I happen to find the webpage? Well, I went to allexperts.com to ask a question. The question was answered by Linda Sue Grimes. So I searched for more info about her. That's how I found the webpage.

Below are the question and the answer I received:

Question:
Why is this book of poems by Sylvia Plath called "Ariel"? In other words, what does "Ariel" refer to? Thank you.

Answer:
Plath had a horse named "Ariel."

Nifty way to learn!

Andy | 23 comments It's an interesting factoid about Plath, but the answer to your question could have been a little more complete I think. For instance, did Plath have any other animals? If so, why would she choose to use the horse's name. What if Plath had a mother named Susan? Why not name the book _Susan_?

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Yes, Andy, I do wish the answer had been more complete. Perhaps the first poem in the book was written about Ariel. We're still left guessing.
