I just finished and reviewed War-Gamer's World, based on the German fantasy wargame Armageddon (a.k.a. Magira and Midgard). It is historically significant as the first novel set in a fantasy game world. The original German publication beat Quag Keep, the first D&D novel, to market by a year or two.See my review on Good Reads for more information. One funny aspect of the story's world is there are six compass directions instead of four. The reason is simple: the game is played on a hexagon grid. The compass directions match the six directions a piece may move in the game.
