Mariya groaned and pushed himself into a sitting position, rubbing his head. Trees loomed around him.
Where am I...? he thought.
Standing, Mariya picked up his pack, slinging it over both his shoulders.
Akira saw a boy in the distance, his arms full of twigs and branches. He blinked then yelled, "Hey! Hey, who's there?!" he ran forward to reach the boy.
Mariya looked up. "Se-Sengoku?" he demanded. Akira grinned at him.
"It's Mariya right?" Akira asked. Mariya nodded. The two talked quietly for a while, headed back in the way Akira had come.
Suddenly, a large shriek sounded behind them. Akira whirled around, dropping the firewood. Mariya gasped, turning back.
A huge bird-thing was standing behind them, cawing at them. It was about the size of three Akiras, if not larger.
Is that a...no...it can't be! Mariya thought in surprise and horror.
"RUN!!!!!!" Akira yelled, pushing Mariya ahead of him. Mariya stumbled, but began to run. Akira ran after him and they charged for the river, the huge bird gaining on them.

Yuki was behind Tina as they walked through the trees. They were unlike any of the trees he had ever seen.
Stroking her fingers against the bark of a tree, Tina examined the area, trying to keep track on where they were going. Glancing around, she looked through the trees, trying to find any more fruit. "Hungry?"
Tina shrugged. "Well, there's gotta be some fruit around here..." her voice trailed off with wonder, yet when she detected a rustle from the bushes, she quickly spun around frantically, already on the edge. Swiftly, she lashed out at her dagger to the sound, landing on a tree that stood in her direction with a thud. Panting heavily, her eyes were widened. She always felt slightly uneasy in the forest, yet at the same time, she felt happy. "I-I thought I heard something..." she murmured, trying to regain herself, while trying to excuse her panicking.
"It's okay, I heard it too," Yuki whispered. "But I think it is gone." He looked around, went to the tree, and grabbed the dagger. "Here."
Tina smiled as she slowly grabbed her dagger out of his hand. "Thanks" she murmured as they continued walking, her blushing slightly fading away. "How long do you think we'll be here?" she asked.
