Even though they had to omit a lot from the novel, because it is so long, I thought the IT miniseries done for television was pretty good. I thought the characters were well played and you definitely felt the evil emanating from Pennywise. I think it was a good move on the director's part to have the adult actors also do all the scenes from when their characters were children. The kids they cast were also very good for the roles they were given.
you should definitely read it and watch the movie. they are both amazing. you sholud als see and read desperation. i had never heard of this novel before, but the movie came on tv one day and it blew me away. but donot under any circumstances watch the made for tv version of the shining. if the original confused your wife , then she will have her mind bottled with this one. the entire plot is chaned, and in the end the dad(who pales in comparison to jack nicholson)gets blow up and his ghost shows up at his son's graduation. generally, a gagfest of cheesiness.
I just finished The Shining, and found it very slow-going. (it picked up near the end, but too much going on in the first half for me)I liked the movie better.
Now, Shawshank.... LOVE both! I always rave about the book, even though I saw the movie first.
Those are the only 2 books by King that I've read, and to be honest, not sure I'm up to reading any more.
I haven't read any Stephen King yet, although I plan to someday. I have seen several movies, and I think Misery should get a mention. I think Kathy Bates is very good at playing the doting-psycho fan. Has anyone read the book and seen the movie? Does the movie do the book justice?
Short Story "The Body", movie Stand By Me. ❤️ both. I just finished short story "Big Driver"; onto the movie. Short story "Secret Window, Secret Garden", I felt, the book was better than the movie. Short story "A Good Marriage" was also better than the movie.I have a lot of King's novels on my to read list, but his short stories are so well written and detailed, I gravitate to them.

I've seen two adaptations recently, The Green Mile and The Shining. Having read The Shining, I was pretty entertained by it, but my wife was a little confused. She thought the movie seemed senseless. I thought it felt like watching the book, even if a lot of the details were changed. I also thought that the movie shifted the focus of the evil in a weird way. Thoughts?
I haven't read The Green Mile, but if the book is half as good as the movie (and most books are twice as good), then I'm really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, I'm slowly reading through King's works chronologically, so it'll be awhile before I get there.
Right now, I'm reading The Stand. I've seen Part III of the TV series based on the book, and I'm not sure how good the movie is.
