Hopefully this is just what I need to finish this book. One of my good friends has said really lovely things about it.

It depends what you mean by "difficult."The style is quite different than what you would read today, but not quite as different as, say, Austen or Dickens.
The language and sentence structure is simple and easy to follow.
There aren't as many characters to keep track of as there would be in, say, a Gabriel García Márquez book or your typical Russian literature.
For me, it's on par with Jane Eyre in terms of difficulty...which is to say that it's not if the style doesn't bother you.
Yay! Another reader.(This is the first book I've recommended for a buddy read, so I was going to be mortified if no one ended up reading it along with me.)

I'll give it a try too. :D
I would like to join in :)i have read this thread yesterday and by coincidence I was at the bookstore afterward and happened to pass by this book , and decided to give it a shot for the April BR :)
We can all try together. :)This is exactly what I was hoping for--now that I have people to read it with, I'm excited.
(And I hope I didn't bother anyone with my dangling prepositions.)
I began reading this book today for something different. I am happily surprised by how good this book is. I usually find myself bogged down by classics, but this one seems like it will be a decently fast read! :) Yay!

There are a ton of them on there, and most classics are. :)

I already had Tess, but tell me please, how do we find free books from Goodreads?

Also, Connie, if you go to the top of the page and click on the little arrow next to "Explore" you will be able to then click on "ebooks". It will take to you all of the books you can read on Goodreads. :)
