Also published as Death in the Air, Originally published in 1935. Features Hercule Poirot and Inspector Japp.

High-flying mystery and suspense via Christie and Poirot! Aboard a plane, a woman dies in her seat, apparently the victim of a wasp sting. Then, a venom-tipped dart from a South American blowgun is found in the aisle. Everyone is suspect, including Hercule Poirot, who was sitting a mere fifteen feet from the victim. Poirot finds closer ties between some of the passengers on the plane than they would admit, but who could have wanted the woman dead? He must find the real murderer and the truth of the case, if only to clear his own name.

Started it this morning and got to chapter 3. It's really good so far, and certainly gets into the action right away!

I ordered mine from Amazon. It should arrive tomorrow, so I'll be starting with something else for August and reading this next probably.

Susan Re-read it the other day - one of my favourite Poirot mysteries. It has a great plot and Poirot at his best - solving the crime and matchmaking, which, as we know, is one of his favourite activities! Also, enjoy the idea of the Golden Age of flying, before a shed at Heathrow replaced Croydon airport...

Michaela (michaelarae1) Has the book "And Then There Were None" ever been done for a group read?

Christina (christinalc) | 19 comments I just added this to my Kindle, so I'll start it tonight. Sorry I haven't been active lately. It's been a wild summer, but I'm hoping to get back to Christie now. I haven't read this one before, so I'm looking forward to it.

I don't know. But we're doing the books in order, and And Then There Were None is further along in Christie's career. We'll probably get to it next year sometime.

Susan And Then There Were None is my all time favourite Christie novel. Really creepy book.

Not yet, check out The List, it'll let you know when it's coming up.

Christina (christinalc) | 19 comments I started this over the weekend and I'm really enjoying it! This feels like a very clever mystery in the making!

I finished reading the book this morning. I had read it before, many years ago, but enjoyed reading it again. I do love Poirot!

Carol (mansonville) Really enjoyed this one! I agree, Elizabeth. Poirot is wonderful. So glad that I joined this group, and am enjoying the novels. Also lucky that I picked most of them up (about 80%) at a flea market this summer! Lots of reading to come!

Another winner!! I was completely shocked as usual. :D

Karen Book is waiting at library.I hope to get there this week. Your posts make it sound so delectable.

Christina (christinalc) | 19 comments I'm about three-quarters through, and really enjoying it. At this point, I'm baffled!!

jennifer (mascarawand) | 95 comments I started this one and within maybe ten pages I thought I had it figured out and was feeling smug...but I was WAY off! I should have known I could never predict Christie that easily.
This was a good one- even Poirot got a headache from trying to figure it out.

Re-read it, and though I already knew what was going to happen, I enjoyed it, thoroughly!

This was a goo..."

hahaha! You and I had the same reaction to this! I can't even count the number of times I've felt so good about myself for figuring it out and then in the end I'll be totally wrong. But, that's what I love about mysteries, especially Christie. :D

Cathryn Ferrara (xtracate) | 57 comments Finished this one last night and really enjoyed it. Thought I might know who had done it but no I was way off as usual.

I especially loved the conversation between Poirot and Japp...

Japp "I've questioned the passengers too. Everyone can't be lying"

Poirot "In one case I investigated everyone was!"

I just love the reference gave me a great smile.

Denise (dulcinea3) | 262 comments Cathryn, I used to look for the references to other stories, and make footnotes in my books about them!

I haven't read this one recently, but I recall that Christie received some critical mail about her use of the blowpipe (is that the right term?). Some expert wrote to her complaining that actual blowpipes like that are about six feet long, so the one found on the plane was impossible! Christie later used this incident in Mrs. McGinty's Dead, in which her alter ego Ariadne Oliver mentions that she had made that gaffe in one of her own novels.

Nathan (nthnlwly) | 243 comments Mod
How interesting, Denise!! I was thinking about that as well, how I thought that blowpipes were these huge things. That's very cool, that she addressed her mistake later. Funny. :D

Christina (christinalc) | 19 comments I loved this book! I was totally baffled. This book seemed really tight, and it seemed to have just the right number of twists and turns in the plot. This was my first time to read this book. I can't believe I missed it before. Excellent!!

Miranda Carbaugh | 5 comments I just finished the book and really enjoyed it!

Blackraven (black_raven) | 9 comments This time i thought i really got the killer before poirot, i had a whole 'how-it-happened-and-why' in my head but was far away from truth lol

☯Emily Ginder | 19102 comments Finished the book today. It was my light read after reading "heavy books" for a while. What I enjoyed was Christie's poking fun at mystery writers. She made several critical comments about them and made the mystery writer, Clancy, look ridiculous. I like the comment Japp made about male (or female) mystery writers: "I don't think it's healthy for a man to be always brooding over crime and detective stories. Reading up all sorts of cases. It puts ideas into his head."

Makes me wonder if Agatha Christie ever thought about murdering someone and, if she had, would it be a perfect crime?

That was quite funny, Emily! I personally think that Christie could have had a lucrative career in crime, lol.

Susan I love the way she never hides her personal feelings - if an actress appears you just know she is no good!

While I would like to think she could design the perfect crime, she proves at least in her books that there is no such thing.

Only if you have a Poirot...

;)

I'm listening to this now instead of the current BOM. I forgot to download Cards on the Table so I'll just finish what's on my MP3 player. I'm liking it a lot so far just because I listened to Three Act Tragedy right before which had minimal Poirot. This one is chock full of Poirot so far.

Carolyn F. | 4766 comments Mod
Finished this last night - loved it! This one had tons of Poirot and although I knew I had read it before, I didn't remember enough of the book to make it interesting.
