True Blood is my guilty Sunday pleasure! I love Eric, too! And I also find Bill annoying. I love the series, but wish it didn't stray so far from the books! I can't wait to see how they spin book 5!

I haven't yet read the books beacuse I want to enjoy the tv series (crazy i know lol). I read the vampire diaries and couldn't believe how different it was from the series; there is just nothing really similar between the two. So i am holding off on the sookie books even though they are sitting on my shelves :)

I have to read the books first, then watch the TV version otherwise I never make it through the movie/TV version. But I can't read the books too close to watching otherwise all I do is compare the two in my head. I did that with Angels and Demons and it totally ruined the movie for me. I have read some of the Vampire Diaries, but haven't watched the show. As far as TB goes...Oh my!!! The books are sooooo much better than the show! If you love Eric now, just wait until you read! And if you think Bill is annoying, just wait...lol! There are many things that are similar between the books and the show, but so many things that are vastly different. The novels are written from the perspective of Sookie, so I assume the TB writers had to develop new story lines of the other characters to make the show complete. I am very interested to see where they go with season five. I'm assuming they are introducing a new love for Sook, since she's taking a break from her two fave vamps. Unless they are going to persue something with Alcide, who I find to be terribly sexy in his own right...Either way I can't wait!

Wow! Stephanie you have convinced me to read those books lol. I want to meet characters...ok Eric...if he is even better in the books :D
Alcide is very sexy!!!
Yep I cant wait for Season 5 now !!!! but while I wait I will read a few of the books :D

LOL! Good! If you don't want in to interfer too badly with the show only read 1-4! BTW...you will looooovvvveeee Eric in book four! I've read the books several times and book #4 is still one of my faves...that #7. Can't wait to hear what you think;-)Keep in mind they are vastly different, though...you will see in the first book. Happy Reading!
I love the show, but have yet to read the books as I have heard they are so far from the books.I have
on my tbr pile, but not sure if I should start with it.
Ha ha, I love Eric too. I've heard great things about the books, but haven't read them either:( I borrowed the first two in the series from a friend so hopefully, I'll read them soon. Stephanie has me intrigued too. I might have to start them next.
I know what you mean Lisa, I am almost tempted to skip straight to book 4 lol...but i will be good and start with the first :D
OH my gosh! I don't want to make anyone do anything they don't want to do, but the series pales in comparision to the books! There is this one part in book two where Eric helps Sookie out...I don't want to give it away but it involves pink spandex and a Corvette...LOL! You have to start at the beginning...book four is great (one of my faves), but there are subtle interactions between Sook and Eric in books 1-3 that build anticipation and you don't want to miss them!
My only advice...if you read them, make sure you aren't reading book five anytime around the series. It will ruin the series if you are one of those people that compares the book to the show! I do that and instead of enjoying the show, I find myyself watching and analyzing...'That didn't happen in the book' or 'that's not want happened'...lol! It's terrible and make is difficult to enjoy what you are watching!
I can't wait to hear what you guys think! Happy Reading!

Hey Stephanie, I have started (woo hoo) book one :D. Only 4 chapters in (because the chapters are so long) but I am enjoying it! I have started a sookie topic under adult fiction because i am betting after book one I will wanna chat someone's ear off lol. Loving the book so far! So much better, I am really loving sookie! I am tempted to nominate dead until dark for the big press BoM hehe

YEAH Rebecca!!! I am so excited to chat with you about them! I'm such a dork and I've read them all like 3 times, but I never have anyone to talk to about them! Can't wait to hear what you think...hehehe! Happy Reading!
I consider the show as extra stories. I don't feel they follow the books well at all. I read most of the books during the 1st season. I didn't watch the 1st season until couple months before the 2nd. Wasn't interested and didn't know at that point the show was based on the books, lol. Just like Stephanie, I can't watch a movie/show before I read a book. I just can't. Books will always be better anyhow.

I am up to book 5 woo hoo!!! I think that the first season of true blood was the one that was closest to the book.
I love Pam in both book and tv, Love Eric omg!!! I love them all haha!
I have to admit I think the tv people did wonderfully with picking people to play these characters! Also I have start to find myself thinking that maybe (and I hate to say this) but that maybe she should end up with Alcide. At this point I don't think I can stop reading them...I am so drawn into the story :). I am kinda sad there isn't little vamp jessica in the books so far but i am hoping she comes into it. I am so ready to start chatting about these books hehe.

How far into book fice are you??? What is the best part about reading them? Worst? How do you feel about Layfette??? And then the ending of season four....very different that the end of the fourth book with regards to Tara and the lack of Eric....

Just finished woo hoo hehe. Omg best bit about reading them has to be that they are so addictive to read, loving all the characters, 10x better then the show (though the show has many many up sides lol). Worst
has to be theI lack of sleep haha, also I miss Layfette and Jessica from
the series.
I know I loved the ending of the book more then the show!!! I don't really understand why they changed it :( Tara is so different from tv Tara. Though I did really like Layfette's boyfriend in season four and I was ok with that angle right up until he died grr, was so unhappy to see that happen! I can't wait until season five, I am so curious to know what will happen...we already know Jason isn't a Were....actually I wonder if the series didn't try to join both book 4&5 together in season 4????? What do you think?

I don't care for the TV version of Tara myself, but Sookie needs a side-kick. Jessica is growing on me...I couldn't stand her at first! I love Layfette! His character is fantastic! Yeah, I'm unsure about what they are going to do with season five. We can conclude the king is going to come back and wreck some havoc! The pirate vamp has to show up, Sook's house needs to go up, Tara's dying or dead (that wound looked lethal to me)and I have no idea what they are going to do with Jason since book five is about him being a were and engaged to Crystal...
Isn't book five the werewolf packleader show down??? And I wonder if they will introduce Quinn??? Also a good chunk of the books take place in New Orleans right before and after Katrina, so they will have to change that up as well. Debbie Pelt needs to be dealt with also. They've already introduced the fairies and killed Claudine. Plus the vamp queen is already dead in the show, but she doesn't die until book 8 (severely wounded in 7, but dies in 8)...
Sooooo much to cover and so many things to change up...
And I am a little bummed that Bubba isn't in the show. I know it would be too corny, but I love that character...lol!
I love bubba to and was thinking the same thing! I am only a few chapters into book eight but I am dying to know if Bill really does become king?
I hate when the tv series starts to change from a book :(. Omg I wish Debbie had died the way she did in book 4, the idea of Eric taking a bullet and then Sookie killing her would have been TV gold!
Season 5 ...I can't wait for this season but I can't help but think it is going to start to pull further and further away from the book :(.

I have to agree with you! So it should be interesting to see where it goes! I was a little perturbed that Eric's memory came back at the end of the season, because it doesn't come back until several books later. And yes, I did not like the way they ended the season...Should be interesting...
Here is a link for some sneak peak photos of the upcoming season! If you are a fan of the books, it is more than obvious things will be VERY different! Should be interesting to see where it goes!http://tv.yahoo.com/photos/true-blood...
Does anyone know when the new season starts? My hubby wants to cancel our HBO package but this is the one show I really like.
I love the books and the show. I do get a little frustrated when they decide to make stuff up that's not in the books. Then again, that's Hollywood 101. You would think they understood by now, that fans only want to see the characters realized on film. We like the stories as they are.
I have seen it advertised for june 4th woohoo I can't wait to see where the show is going to head now :)
OMGodric, Waiting Sucks! Lisa, Season 5 starts on Sunday, 06/10/12. I can't wait! I have read all the books, but enjoy the show equally as much. I adore some of the "new" charachters they added such as Jessica. I can't wait to see how Scoot Foley fits in with Terry- I just love Terry, another improvement from the boos. The thing I missed most from the Series was the relationship between Sookie and Eric BEFORE he lost his memory in books 1-3. Eric already won my heart in book 1 when he killed Long Shadow, but ofcourse they changed that on the show so viewers don't realize the importance of season 4. Gosh, this is TOO long...
OMG who's going to play the Were-Tiger? I am dying to know. I'm so waiting for Alcide. He's hot. June 10th is right around the corner. You guys know the actress who plays Sookie is pregnant? Wonder how that's going to play for season 6.
I got it confused with the mtv movie awards lol I am a sucker for those awards..sorry Lisa :). I am so excited for the return of this series...has anyone seen the new trailer ? OMG was Eric 'in bed' with Pam? and it looked like Sookie is gonna get all close with Alcide or atleast that is what the trailer was implying! I do think this season might be the most different from the books but I can't wait to find out. Any one else got any theories on what might happen?
I have read the first four books in the series and love it. I just started watching SEASON 1 of True Blood. I was going to wait till I read all books before I started watching the series so it didn't spoil the books for me, but I have to say, I really like the show. I mean at least for season one it really is close to the book and I love the tv characters which usually doesn't happen. So now my question is do the rest of the season come close to the books? Do they ever jump ahead in the storyline?
Kristina wrote: "I have read the first four books in the series and love it. I just started watching SEASON 1 of True Blood. It's actually a fun ride. I am a big fan of both!
OK the season started last week here in the US on Sunday's. Anyone watching besides me? Yep, it's Sunday again. I can't wait to see where the show is heading:)
Yep, I'm watching. Good start to the season so far. I always thought that reverend guy was (view spoiler). ;)
it only just started here this week so we are only one week behind...Please, i am begging you to keep that in mind, I have little will power when it comes to true blood and I will read spoilers haha :P. I am so happy it is back on air though!!!

Oh Barry, you and me were on the same page about him! I thought the same also and I am so curious to see what role he will play this season now. Tara made me cry, omg, when she was shoot...tears were falling. BTW I am kinda annoyed at Eric and Bill...though I will never get tired of seeing Eric naked. Now only one week to wait until I know what happens next :D

Great season so far. In a way, I'm glad they have completely strayed away from the novels. Now I don't know what to expect and I don't have to get upset when they stray from books.
:( only just through series 2, so worried I might hit spoilers by reading this thread. Have read all the books - I find them dull. Prefer the video to the books but unsure whether to buy series 3. Nearly gave up after 1- Bill is v annoying and the DVD blood/sex is often gratuitous, but got 2 for birthday and thought it was better - largely due to Jason who was hilarious. Any thoughts? It's not cheap! Tempted to go for Game of Thrones 2 Dvd instead.

Ahhhh I'm sorry but he's so annoying and fake!
I like jason, lafayette, arlene and hoigt (why are all these names so horrible to spell) Eric's okay, I prefer him to bill.

Does anyone else find Bill annoying? Also who saw Lafayette killing his bf...omg...not me!
What are you guys expecting to happen in season Five?
