Men's Book Club discussion

He keeps turning up on my recommendations pages, and some of the reviews sound intriguing, but I'm just not a Sci-fy type of reader... any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Picked up The Game-Players of Titan at an indoor boot on Sunday. Thought I would give the author a go after listening to this BBC Great Lives podcast last December:

Of course he's most famous for Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and the Blade Runner film adaptation.

Do Androids...

I read that one with high hopes and was greatly disappointed. You know that Bladerunner movie? Well, the book only vaguely resembles it.

No. Tried the first chapter, but it's just reached tipping point in terms of believable sci-fi, which is inevitable really when you think how old it is (but then again, War of the Worlds is a masterpiece). I think I prefer the script to the film - much better. Worth listening to though, or reading, is I am Legend - that holds up.

I'm mad about Dick's Androids (sounds bad...no matter how I put it)...butt...it's magnificent because it's nothing like the film. In my humble opinion, forget about Blade...and run with Androids--it says so much about human nature and sexuality...even if those theories are applied to toys. It's been on my list of annuals for at least a decade.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? is on my 'eventually' list. But right now The Man in the High Castle's got a lot of hype. I'm going to check it out soon.
