I will start to read it today and I ordered Motherless Brooklyn from the library. Anyone else start to read any of the books? Does everyone plan on reading all 3??

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

I plan on it. I finished Dead Until Dark this past weekend, but I finally decided to do War and Peace, so it may not be until January until I do the other two. (And of course I'll want to read book 2 of the Sookie series!)

Desiree | 19 comments inadvertently i already read Dead Until Dark :) So I got one book done finally :) Actually I have read the whole series...so I will be good for those too! :)House of Leaves is on my agenda for December/January...hopefully start the book club after that :)

Desiree, how did you like the series overall? Have you read the new release yet? I just read House of Leaves a month or so ago. It was pretty good.

Jeremy, I have read the new release too...As a series it is entertaining and there are some good plot lines going, but i wouldn't say it is the best out there, and at points it gets slightly cliche and almost soft core porn like, but once I get caught up in a series i feel the need to always keep reading to at least find out what happens...so i will continue to read them as they come out. Some of the books are better then the others. As for House of Leaves, I hope i can get to it. I borrowed it from a friend and I think they want it back soon...we shall see.

It took me a few weeks to read, but I go through times where I can only squeak out 10 minutes here and there.

Yeah, I thought Dead Until Dark was, ummm, riske at times. It actually surprised me. It didn't bother me at all, but in some sense I think it has the effect of bringing the book down. The funny thing is that many talk of how erotic Dracula was and I didn't think so at all. But that book was written over a century ago and it makes me wonder if Bram Stoker would have used the same subtleness in today's world.

I brought HoL on paperback thinking that it would be smaller...NOPE! It is the same size just soft LOL. I am in few pgs into Dead Until Dark and so far I am with you guys on the whole riske thing but we will see how it turns out.

Desiree, I am the same way when it comes to series. I just have to finish them. At least they are fairly quick reads.

message 9: by Cheri Howard (new)

Cheri Howard I have already read Dead Until Dark, but Motherless Brooklyn is next on my list. I think I'll skip Smashed for now, I doubt I'll get much reading done over the holidays.

I go no reading done this weekend. I had a screaming headache that just didn't want to go away!!!

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

That stinks! I hope you feel better now.

I got a bit read on Friday night and Saturday morning but with a Christmas party, some beer, recreational basketball, NFL football and tree decorating, I became a reading disappointment for the remainder of the weekend.

Thx ;-)

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

So you're going to finish today, right? Then you know, we have to hit book 2. I might have to break my fairly new rule and read more than one fiction book at a time.

Yeah right. I am not going to be done for some time. I am hoping to get it done by the end of the week. I never took so long to read a book but....Well you know!

I am still reading this!! I have been sooo tired and lately sick so all I wanna do is sleep so I am still going, slowly, but moving.

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm sorry to hear that...but the end result will be good (although probably cut into your time even more!!). I've been making really slow progress on W&P and get very, very frustrated when I plan on reading and something gets in the way. Such as both last night AND this morning!!!

Oh it will def cut into my reading time but as you said it's worth it...eventually LOL

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Have you ever seen Wanda Sykes standup? She has this great bit where she says that parents always look at the ground when the say kids are worth it.

Yeah, if you wanna read Smashed you would have to purchase it from his site at www.lancecarbuncle.com.

It is for $12 (incl. S&H) and he signs it for you. It probably won't be in the library.

Jennifer (Misskitty1026) | 105 comments ifinished dead until dark and have started the second in the series Living Dead in Dallas this morning. The characters were great, i felt like i was ther ein the story. I didn't even know about this as an HBO series until i picked up the book, now i want to see that as well - though i always get dissapointed with movie/tv versions of books.

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
I wasn't really getting into the book. I was kinda bored but I will just have to hope that the rest of the series is better but I am def going to check into the HBO series.

message 31: by Desiree (new)

Desiree | 19 comments Actually i watched the HBO series before reading the books. For the most part the first season kinda sticks to the first book. Some characters in the season and some plot comes from other books but not a huge amount. It is more character build up to lead into the second season. I read the books because I loved the show! Happy Watching and let me know what you think of the series!

message 32: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (Misskitty1026) | 105 comments i am definately going to watch it tomorrow then i can't wait
