Erin So I'm currently reading Under the Tuscan Sun, but its not getting read because I feel that its a sit down and read for hours book. I just don't have that time.

I also love the movie though. The movie is what got me onto the book. Which heads me off on my first question, where and when did you first find the book?

I found mine after walking into this little book store called Poor Richard's in Frankfort, Ky. If you are ever near Frankfort I really recommend you go visit it because it is so amazing. You know that old wood book store with stairs that are kinda airy and rap around the back the back of the store. They even have those rolling ladders! But I'm off topic! So I went through this little door way which leads to the coffee shop next door and was looking around in there since, the book store extends into there. I had looked around and was about to leave, when I turned around and the book was facing me. They turned out a few books so the covers could be since and it was right in front of me on eye level. I gasped and grabbed it and ran to my dad. It was so cool! I had already fallen in love with the movie and had wanted the book, but I generally don't get my hopes up to actually get the books I want.

Also, does it strike you as a book to curl up with or is that just the movie influencing me? I don't have any questions about the movie, but love to hear any thoughts on that!

((I've been having trouble deciding which folder to put it in, but since I think the topic is going to be on the book more, not that it has to be, I decided here))

Erin I warn you, you want to be able to concentrate while reading it. Read it during winter break or summer break or just sometime there is actually time to devote to it. Good book though!

S I have the book and the film. I've watched the film numerous times and consider it to be a favorite. Who doesn't love the concept of moving to another country and essentially reinventing your life? I haven't read the book yet, but I plan on it during the summer!

Erin Sarah thats a good time. Its extremely detailed and lost me a lot!

Lori Walker I'm in the same boat as Sarah--I've seen the movie a million times, but haven't read my copy of the book. I guess I read about 50 pages of it last summer. It doesn't have that much in common with the movie, other than the frame of moving to Tuscany and buying a villa. It's definitely a travelogue. This book made me go to Borders and buy a little leather bound notebook to take notes in, from the book and from life.

I definitely plan on picking it up again this summer. Maybe travelogues can be one of our themed readings and we can rig the election to get Under the Tuscan Sun to win.

S Great idea Lori! One of my favorite genres is travel writing, so it'd be nice if that was an option for book of the month!

Lori Walker Erin (and everyone else, really), If you liked Under the Tuscan Sun, Mayes has written several other books as well. Peter Mayle is also a good travel writer. He lives in Provence and wrote A Year in Provence and a whole line about that area. I believe both authors include recipes and interesting factoids about the area, which makes it even more lifelike.

Erin Lori I really am not big on it because it is so detailed. I like the woman's 'voice,' but I get so lost reading it.

Lori Walker I hear you. I plan on reading it though because I bought it. I'm interested in getting to the part with the recipes so I can try them, if I can find the ingredients in Oklahoma.

Lianne (eclecticreading) | 71 comments I've been meaning to read her book (I've seen the movie and loved it); I read her other book A Year in the World and found it quite enjoyable. Maybe I'll pick it up this summer (and afterwards I'll pine on and on about wanting to move to Tuscany =D)

Lori Walker Li, Someone just sent me a copy of A Year in the World. I am looking forward to reading it, but I feel like I need to read the original first.
