this is a really interesting topic, for me at least. i am not racist AT ALL, at least i hope not, and i am white. and there were these really sad stories about people who plotted to kill president elect obama during the election. i mean, u probably heard about that. and the fact people r STILL racists, even after martin and jesse and barack, is really depressing to me.

Same here, and sometimes black people are racist to black people! I could just be walking around and kids will come up to me and start calling me "whitey" and "vinilla cracker" and im black! Its really strange how some people are just so racist.

seriously? what state do u live in?!?!?!? indiana or something. i mean cuz my mom lived there for a couple years and told me it was super racist.

Urgh. I hate racists. And (no offence Chandani or anyone else) its mostly darker-skinned people(but there are lots of caucasins who are racist) who are openly racist and will tell you you're racist. Like the fact that i don't like that there's a black history month. They say, "OMG THAT IS SO DANG RACIST". And,you know, if I went up to the white house and asked for a white history month, i'd probably be called racist and then shot. That just suckz.
BTW, I'm openly admitting that I might not know mucho about Black History Month's(and isn't calling it black history month a racist comment, even if unintentional?) origin. But that's just my opinion. (btw to the second power, i actually wrote sumthing on this...its on my writing...but it'd probly offend lots of people).
And Emma, I agree with you 100% it suckz big toe that people are gonna try(and have tried) to Assiant our President-elect. He's a really great guy. If certain clans/people could get over racism and skin colour, our world would be a mucho happier place to live in.

Well white history month would be kind of unnecessary. I mean every president of the US (until recently) was white.
I dont really like black history month either. Because at school during black history month they only serve corn bread as a snack its like
"DUDE! WE EAT MORE THAN FRIGIN CORN BREAD!"

i, contrary to some peoples belief, am not racist. i would love to have a black president but i just don't feel he is the best choice. he is a good guy and had a sad life with his parents and stuff (who else watched his bio on tv i did it was sad but i know more about his life than most fans that i know).

I read his Bio, and his book. I dont have TV so i couldnt watch it. I also read Mc Cains Bio and beside being a war prisoner i found it dull.

and chandani: its kind of pointless to have black history month though, isnt it? learning about harriet tubman(and various others, but it shood be spaced out to the time they occurred according to what era your doing in history) shood be apart of a regular skewl curciulum, and not because we're recongizing a month-long thing. We learn the same thing every year in February. Its dull by now.

Uh, well though i dislike black history month because of the corn bread, i think that its nice that we get at least one month out of the whole year dedicated to our history.

yeah..but it shood be apart of a regular skewl curciulum, and not because we're recongizing a month-long thing..its kind of over-kill. i mean, we don't have a latino history month, do we? but we spend a lot of skewl time learning about slavery. i'm sorry..i just think its wrong to have a whole month dedicated to one race when there are others that have done good things, maybe their ancestors didn't suffer as much as black-americans(but we don't honor the native-americans for a whole month, we learn about them in what? 4th grade? and then they're history just kind of disappears afterwards), for our country(not sure which, but there are some out there)..and i do get the whole thing that there are way more famous white-americans out there that we learn about all year..but i still think its wrong to have one month for only black-american history, and not one for others...idk ur skewl system is probly bttr than florida's crappy(we're like the 48th state in the skewl system rating) public skewls..you probly learn more about otha cultures than we do..

We have Latino history month in NY, or in all of the schools thta ive been in.
And we dont honor NA's for a whole month, but every year we have to do at least 2 projects about them. Same with India, China and tha Middle East.

Well Slavery was like 400 years long!! And racism is still out there, and i see it everyday. White people call me nigger, and black people call me half and half. But i can deal. In NY we have tons of diversity, so we get school off on Jewish holidays, and muslim holidays. We take trips to latin harlem to learn about the cultur. We go to little italy, and China town.
Im in 7th grade and we still learn about NA's just a lot more in depth. Less about the settlers and more about how the Natives got here, and studying the berring straight. Which leads us into world history and economics.
We pretty much learn about everyone. Black history month is also important for young black kids out in the getto. They need to know where they come from, because if they have pride then they wont get into drugs and gangs.

Yeah...you guys learn diff. stuff. If we learn about slavery, its only slavery in America and how bad the ships were. And we don't learn much about any other kinds of culture(even in World History)

That sucks. Slavery actually started with the Arabs in africa, and then they introduced the Europeans to it, and then the Europeans brought it to us, and slavery in america started! But during our slavery period there were also african slaves being shipped to Europe, Central America, and tons of places. But i think we got the most besides Europe. I forget.

i have always wanted to learn about wars we fought in other countries cuz the teachers r like"the US is the best country in the whole wide world and even though we torture people in iraq on a day to day basis, we still have a great government and a great president" thats pretty much what they would say.

Have you ever noticed that if a white person says anything that can be taken as racist it's soooo horrible but if anyone else says, 'white people are racist' (maybe not in those exact words always but sometimes it is) nobody calls them on it? And yet, isn't it racist to be so stereotypical of a particular race. I mean, people can be racist against white people too!

Yeah racism goes both ways and i see it everyday like i said. People are jerks. Well if a white person calls a black person a nigger than yeah thats racist, and if a black person calls a whit eperson a cracker, thats racist too.

Well, maybe that's not the only thing she's talking about. That's not all of what obama is. He's got other opinions and plans too. But, yes, I do think that many black people DO agree with him completely. Still, that's not racist it's just against a particular political stance.

Yeah. so by saying she would be racist if all black people were like Obama she was saying that she would be racist if all black people had Obama's views such as democracy, liberalism, anti-war-in-iraq and pro-choice.

So pretty much shes saying that shes racist toward 95% of the black populace.

That is sooooo true..its like we're supposed to know better but because they live in the bad-side-of-town and are louder and our ancestors(i admit that it wasn't so long ago, but we weren't part of that generation so its kinda dumb to be racist even now)enslaved their people , its ok .
And Chandani....most black-americans who voted for Obama...didn't know really that much about any of his policies..not all of them. and i support Obama..and I don't mind that he got voted into office for it..I just think its horrible to vote for someone and not know their policies and views. One EIGHTY YEAR OLD black-woman-american HAD NEVER VOTED IN HER LIFE but now that there was a mixed-man running for President, she ran to the Voter's Registration office and got herself registered. That, in my opinion, is just really cruddy.

I agree with Courtney, that's messed up! I mean that's total racism. They're being racist FOR black people. That's like being racist against white people.

Not all black people didnt know about his policies! Me and my family, and all of my black friends and their black friends and there friends, and so on and so forth, would have animated talks about his policies. I know thats not all black people, but lets not be stereotypical.

Lets not point fingers at just one race okay? So many people are racist! People are racist towards Jew, muslims, blacks, whites, asians! Anything that someone could possibly be racist about they will be!

It's true that everyone can be racist. But I don't think that "Anything that someone could possibly be racist about they will be!" That's a exaggerated, a lot. I'm sure most people try very hard not to be racist even though sometimes they might make a comment that sounds racist I'm pretty sure they try not to and that's a good start.

Okay it was exaggerated, but not by that much and thats whats sad. People are racist all the time without even realizing it! Some people are raised without any diversity which cultivates racism in the end. I hate how racism is directly tied to Black people vs White people. I mean there are other cultures out there that are killing each other over racism!

Well ignorance makes some people say stupid things. I dont call people niggaz. Maybe people will call me that but i just ignore them. racism is an everyday thing, but just because one white person or one black perosn was racist dosent mean that the entire race is racist.

i was riding my cousins skateboard for the first time in my life and i was going like not even half a mile an hour and hit a crack in the pavement and fell off and caught myself but i broke my arm!!!!!!!!!!

OMG! That must have hurt like mad. I skateboard all the time with my brother, cuz hes really good. I fell out of a like 6 foot tree and sprained my ankle.
