Mark | 5 comments It looks like Nexus is a very international group. How about sharing some good news from your part of the world?

It was a beautiful early spring day in the Toronto area. People are outdoors again walking, jogging, riding bikes. It's like my part of the world is coming back to life.

Its a good day in Karachi (Pakistan) and the weather is just right in the mornings-not too hot or cold!

message 3: by Mark (new)

Mark | 5 comments A bright, cool morning (3degrees C). A brisk walk to one of my favorite coffee shops. An uninterrupted hour with my latest book.

message 4: by Regan (new)

Regan Black | 33 comments We've had a whole winter's worth of spring in South Carolina (USA) and our temps are over 80(F) these days. Thankfully, the summer humidity hasn't caught up to us yet, so things are pretty comfortable. The wisteria vine in my back yard is glorious and loaded with pale purple flowers.

I'm in the mountains of North Carolina (USA). It's beautiful weather here also. I think winter just sort of skipped us this year. It's almost spring time and we've not even had any snow.

message 7: by Annalise (new)

Annalise Grey | 32 comments It is rainy today in south-central Pennsylvania. The last two weeks have been hovering around the 70s which is crazy unusual for March. Flowers are blooming everywhere although right now we should still have at least 6 inches of snow on the ground for this time of year.

You are missing out. Addictive doesn't begin to cover it.

I've never played words with friends either

I thought I was the only one. Everyone I know is constantly playing it. I'm afraid to to try it......don't need another addiction.

Can the good news be personal and not weather? Because I joined the Navy!! I've been telling everyone--even people I don't know!

Congratulations!!! I was in the Army and I loved it. The military is a fantastic choice - at least it was for me. :P

What is your job going to be?

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks!! I'm really looking forward to it. I think boot camp is going to be hell, but I'm strong enough to get through it. :)

message 19: by Annalise (new)

Annalise Grey | 32 comments Boot camp is tough at times but if you go into with a 'just-go-with-it' attitude, it will be easier. They are purposely trying to mind-f**k you. It is a game.

I knew so many people who didn't know this beforehand and they really believed that the drill sergeants hated them. Boot camp was tougher for them because of it.

But it can also be fun. Some of the courses we did were seriously fun to do. In the Army we did ropes courses, a bayonet course, a night infiltration course (obstacle course), and more. They were awesome!!

I didn't know you are an Army wife! Are you down at Ft. Jackson?

message 21: by Regan (new)

Regan Black | 33 comments Annalise wrote: Are you down in Ft. Jackson?

We're closer to Charleston - he's a reservist (while that's supposed to mean 'part time' there's more to it than that for him right now). lol
His current unit is based in Ft. Jackson and he commutes as needed.

message 22: by Annalise (new)

Annalise Grey | 32 comments I bet he's busy right now for sure. I've had a few reservist and National Guard friends and the reservists have been called up more times than I can count. My one friend works on computers and his unit has sent him overseas twice for 12-14 month stints in a four year period. Not to mention that he has been activated several times for 4-6 months at a time. It's hard for him to even keep a regular full-time job because his unit has been calling him up so much.

Well I've been forewarned about that, so hopefully I won't have too much of a problem. And I'm very determined so I have that going for me.

It's crazy, but true, that's for sure. And your friend is not alone. My husband's last deployment, he was overseas for 10 months, but he didn't live with us (training, etc.) for eight months before that. His brain is already geared up for the upcoming mission - which makes for some interesting conversations. LOL

Cirsta, determination is your best friend! Annalise is right - you've just gotta realize it's *temporary* and play the game. It might help to remember everyone you see with a higher rank survived the same game.

=)

Not only good news, amazingly rare news (at least if your part of England is anything like my part of England).

News: The Weeping Empress made the top 10 seller list at Back to the Books and I turned in my penultimate piece of work for my MSc. All that is left now is the dissertation. No big deal, right?

Dissertations are evil! I hated doing mine.

I have to admit that I am having a hard time buckling down to work. The weather is such a distraction.

message 41: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 92 comments Dissertation type stuff is the reason why I haven't bothered doing something like an Open University course in WWII history. The period itself fascinates me but writing essays on it would make me want to kill myself.

Mind you, some good news is that my latest book is largely finished for the moment. Got some jolly kind people who agreed to beta/proof-read it so just waiting for them to attack with much gusto at the moment.

Judith Leger (judithleger) | 70 comments Well, May has been a very busy month for me. My oldest son and his fiance' decided to nix the full, blown wedding with all the stress and flew to Jamaica on the 4th. They were married on the beach on May 9th. (Insert Mom squeal here) They came home and we had a reception for them which turned out awesome!! The following week, my youngest graduated from high school (louder Mom squeal!!!). He's my last one and the my second to start college. My middle one is almost done.

I also work at a local university and May is the end of the semester. We had a ton of students graduating this semester (BS and MS). Just this past Friday, we also had an alumni get together. It's so wonderful to see some older and familiar faces!

On top of all of this, I'm trying my best to finish a book that was requested by a pub.

Been busy but I've loved every moment!

Fun but tiring. It's wonderful that I have a great daughter-in-law but I'm glad my other two aren't seeing anyone steady. 1 marriage for right now is good for me!

Stuart Albright (stuatalbright) | 2 comments I just got to do an interview today on NPR's the state of things for my new book Bull City. As an indie author, it's often hard to break into the mainstream media, so this was a welcome piece of good news. Reading these comments has brightened my day. This group seems to be filled with good, down to earth people. Here's the link to today's interview: http://wunc.org/tsot/archive/SOT52912...

message 49: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) I got some good news to share! My book is going to be made for Kindle finally after a year! I will posting the official date of its release to let everyone know. Also, my books FB Page has seen a spike in likes and views and my website is also doing the same. (http://jbienvenue.webs.com/)
Also one of lovely hosts Tana has informed me of my Blog Tour in July which is sure to be fun, informative and a hit, details on that will come later on as well. So for the most part my book is still kickin A$$ and takin names! lol. I am also looking into getting another book signing setup possibly.
