I would like to know if anyone here has one? Recently I've been thinking about getting one because I need to carry a lot of heavy text books to the lab, along with many printed thesis and journals that ended up unused (what a waste of paper and ink cartridge and my money). I've been checking out Kindle but since they don't actually ship it legitly to Malaysia, the usage is kind of limited. I'm not sure about other e-readers that book stores like MPH sells, so, any suggestion?

message 2: by Helen (new)

Helen Peter I have a kindle purchased in UK. It is wonderful and convenient as it can carry loads of books. If you would like to know more you can email me at petergracehelen@hotmail.com.

ZA (ZABakar) | 1 comments Hi Fatehah!

I bought a Kindle in the US and find it an absolute boon to reading! Not only are ebooks easy to carry, they are also often cheaper than physical ones! It's ultra convenient to be able to download books, and I strongly recommend it. Try visiting kindlemalaysia.com to get more info on Kindles and how to use it when you are not in the USA.

Thank you for the input :) I really appreciate it!

Masako Lin (surin) | 1 comments Hi Fatehah,

I currently read via my iphone but I wouldn't recommend it because I suspect the mini text is ruining my eyes. I can't live without ebooks though because they are so easy and so much cheaper (during sales you can books as cheap as USD3.99!!) I'm planning to get my Kindle very soon from one of the sellers at lowyat.net.

Ulya A.K | 2 comments hi.. i used the sony ereader before and it was super convenient.. but now i'm using ipad as my main ebook reader. i suppose ereader are kinder to the eye, but so far its doesnt really make that much of a difference to me..

reading using smartphones can make you go cross-eye like SL said & requires a lot of "page" turning just to complete a chapter.. but a life-saviour if you only have a few stolen minutes here & there. just make sure you have in a more appropriate format like epub, rather than pdf for easier reading.. hehe..

Hope that helps.. :)

Ellen Whyte (goodreadscomellen_whyte) I'm in Malaysia (KL) but publishing on Amazon Kindle. Can you recommend places to promote my newest book?

It's erotica so it would have to be for over 18s.

I'm using Facebook and Twitter and my blog but am not sure how many people here have Kindles.

PS writing as Storm Chase "Chocolate: An Erotic Romance In Siberia"

Not sure if this helps. You may join the groups - Erotica and/or Erotic Enchants. If your books are M/M you may also join the group M/M Romance. Browse thru the contents in the groups' pages, there are excellent platform for you to promote your books and chat with other authors and readers.

Huda Sarkowi | 2 comments I'm not sure if this is illegal..oopss...

I have an android tab, 7inches. and I installed e-readers in it so I can read any mobi or epub files. And if i want to convert a document into that particular kind of format I use the calibre software.

Just sharing my tips..

message 13: by Helen (new)

Helen Peter No, it is not illegal. Most of the sites that sell e-books have e-reader software for download onto PC, ipad or tablets to read e-books.

message 14: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (allee5) | 2 comments i'm using kindle..

is not illegal to convert to format, beside calibre is a free software.

is only illegal is we download books for free without paying for them.

message 15: by Helen (new)

Helen Peter Agreed. It is not nice and illegal to download pirated books. There are alot of "free' books offered by authors or publishers as promotion, do not need to download books illegally.

Golda Mowe (gmowe) | 6 comments Hello all, I am Golda Mowe a writer from Malaysia. I have written a book called Iban Dream about a Sarawak headhunter. I would like to give out 10 free copies of the ebook in either epub or mobi formats in exchange for a review in Goodreads. If you are interested in Iban mythology or know anyone who is, could you reply to this comment? I am looking for honest reviews.

I'd be interested in reading and reviewing your book however my native language is English so if your book is in malay I'll have to pass up on the opportunity. Looking forward to hearing from you .. :)

message 18: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Denn | 3 comments Ah I've looked up your book, Iban Dream, and it states the edition language is English so YES, I would love to read and review for you. I use the kindle for PC app so would require a mobi eBook. I've been living in Malaysia since August 2002 so having an opportunity to read your book is quite exciting to me!

message 19: by Ellen (new)

Ellen Whyte (goodreadscomellen_whyte) I'll have a go if you like. Email me at ellen.whyte@gmail.

message 20: by Sheng (new)

Sheng (sheng3777) | 11 comments Hi Fatehah,

I read all my ebooks thru my iPad, iBook app accepts both epud and PDF format. Software like calibre converts any format to epud. If you are using android like Nexus or Samsung you could read ebooks thru software like Aldiko or FBReader apps.

Natasha Bolf | 2 comments Hi,dear e-readers from Malaysia, my second home :)
Would like to announce that my "non-typical chick-lit novel" called "Love is a cheating game" is free on Kindle from 23rd December until 25th December.
I would very much appreciate your honest review on Amazon or here. Also feel free to text me or add me if you want any extra information about my work.
Enjoy and have a happy hollidays! Thank you.

description:
What would your life look like if you knew and remembered all the things that were going on in your parent's life while you were still just a baby on the way?
You might not know all your family's secrets , but in this novel, an unborn Baby will tell you all its family's secrets.
You might recognize yourself in the story.
You might had also known those sorts of things while you were in your mother's belly, but you have forgotten them, just like this Baby will, the second it will be born.
TheBaby will forget that, even though it does have a dad who may not be its real father, it also won't remember what had its own Mom used it for, it won't remember that there was once a LoveOfDad'sLife or Dad'sBestFriend, and it especially will have no idea who TheBoss was.
But you can find all of that out. Right now. Check out how these people, who have no official names 'cause all of us could easily be some of them, mess around with each other's lives, justifying everything with the greatest power of all, love. But is it really all fair in love and war? You'll see for yourself, and TheBaby will just help you with sarcastic comments.

To those who own Paperwhite I, you might want to consider updating your device to 5.4.4. The update makes your device looks pretty much like Paperwhite II :D

To see the overall list of improvements and manually update your device, just click here.

It was THE update that I've been waiting for :D Navigation is so much easier especially when it comes to footnotes. Another feature that I thoroughly adore is the Vocabulary Builder.

Lann | 16 comments I read my last book for the first time with Google Playbook, on iPad. So far it's good, but the interface is little bit minimalist compared with iPad's native eBook reader - iBook.

Yew wrote: "Hey guys. I have been using the Kobo app on my tablet for reading ebooks in epub format. I was thinking of getting a Kindle which i believe is in mobi format. How do i convert my epub ebooks to mobis?"

I use Calibre, which is an application that you can download for free. It is a straight forward apps that also works as your ebook management system. I believe that it's the kind of must-have software that everyone that read ebooks should have.

p.s. I'd advise you to convert the files to azw3 format instead of mobi.

message 35: by Nazrat (new)

Nazrat | 9 comments Yeah azw3 is better and get the Quality Check plugin (not too sure if its a default plugin). This plugin has a feature that fixes the ebook and categorised the ebook as a book in kindle instead of treating it as a doc.

You do need to manually fix the ids in the book metadata to get it to work and enable it to share progress update in goodreads.

Deviki | 43 comments Where do you guys buy your ebooks ?
How do you purchase it ? credit card ?
What format do you usually get ?
Can i use my smartphone to read them ?

I use giftcards whenever I purchase ebooks from Amazon. Books from Amazon are in azw format, so you'll need to use the Kindle apps if you intend to read them on your smartphone or tab.
