"In this thread, everyone will post their reviews/opinions of the book they have read this week AFTER you rate/review it on your page. The purpose of this is so everyone can see what you read this week and read your review without having to visit each profile. Some of you have their profiles locked, so this saves you the trouble of unlocking it.

ANY COMMENTS THAT ARE NOT RELATED TO THAT MATTER WILL BE DELETED.

The format will be like this:

Name of book.
Author.
n/5 stars.

"Your simple opinion/extended review/one word that expresses what you thought of the book. GO CRAZY! Anything counts. Don't feel pressured."

Link to your review.

Also, this allows us to be organized, so even if a member didn't log in for about a month, they can add the book they've read to the appropriate thread.

THANK YOU ALL!

EDIT:
As I've mentioned in the guidelines, one word or a simple opinion counts as a 'review'. I only called it that because Goodreads calls it that."

Now let's see your achievements, awesome people.

If you're looking for a book that'll make you forget all your worries, I highly recommend this one. I picked this up last night and couldn't put it down till I finished it. Every page is filled with something new and you'll just want to keep reading till the end, there are no boring parts - I promise.

Everyone who has ever had to make an important decision in their life will relate to the main character; you don't neccesarily have to be a certain type of person to belong in a place.

Can't wait for the second one!

Ally Atherton (allyatherton) Transform Your Life by Penny Ferguson.

I purchased this free for my kindle a few months back because the title jumped out at me and the idea of transforming my life is an exciting concept!

I haven't read many self-help books and I was looking forward to trying one or dipping my toes in the water so to speak. To be honest I was first a little disappointed because about 60% of the book is more like a leadership or management tutorial. However I did find those parts quite interesting and hopefully it will help in my role as an RGN and as a father of two teenage boys( and hopefully one day as a multi award winning author!) It pretty much has a big emphasis on listening and encouraging others instead of simply trying to get your points across.

The rest of the book is full of helpful life tips such as positive thinking, finding out what you really want to do in life and even writing your own obituary! I havent wrote mine yet but I intend to (maybe today or tommorrow), hopefully before someone else does! Overall I found this book to be quite motivating and helpful in a constructive way and I am hoping to digest and develop some of its ideas for my own life. 'Transform Your Life' is built around 52 ideas with some bonus ideas at the end. For some reason one of these bonus ideas goes into a long discussion about growing your own vegetables which had me scratching my head and thinking I had started to read a different book by mistake!

This is an interesting read and hopefully it will help me to transform my life, only time will tell.

The Thing About Life Is That One Day You'll Be Dead by David Shields
3/5

This book has left me depressed. I thought the book would be some sort of comparison between the author's pessimistic take on life and his father's optimistic view. Sadly, the entire book is a pessimistic ramble, backed up with numbers and science of how 'bad' our life is going to be and what we have to look forward to as we grow older.
Other than that, I don't quite know what to make of this book.

Moayad (mtaibah) | 8 comments Hello,

It's been a while since I last updated my readings, but here they are, 2 books and a comic that I've spent time on over the past few weeks.

الحروب الصليبية كما رآها العرب

A historical book that tells the story of the Crusade Wars as documented by Arab historians. A great source of information about that era of time that expanded my knowledge on the subject greatly even though we took it in school.

Aleph

A book that tells the journey of a writer through the land of Russia as he experiences friendship, love and self finding.

Daytripper

A comic series that tells a story of a writer. I cannot delve into the details of the comic or it will ruin it, however I highly recommend it.

That's all for now, enjoy your readings :)

Book: Clockwork Angel
Author: Cassandra Clare
Genre: Young Adult, Historical, Paranormal
Finished Date: 24.Mar.2012
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Review: Nicely written and enjoyable story.

≈ The hype around this book and the fact that it was set during a Victorian era is what made me read it. I have to admit, I liked it mostly. I liked the story, the myth and the characters. However, the book gets slow in some parts but it at some others it picks up nicely. ≈

Although young adult, the book is a fast paced thriller that will keep you on edge until you reach the last page, and even then you're waiting for the next book. Even if I had my reservations over some parts of the book that seemed a bit childish for me, it did not ruin the storyline. All those heart thumping moments assimilate to form a beautiful tale with characters that complements the story well. So all in all, the continuity of the story is intact and you're left with a story that is guaranteed to keep your mind wholly occupied til the end.

The Woman Who Went to Bed for a Year by Sue Townsend
Title: The Woman Who Went to Bed for a Year

3/5

I like the idea of the book as I read the blurb, but the execution was a bit off. I have to admit that what put me off the most is how unlikable the characters were.

Book#21
All My Friends are Dead by Avery Monsen
Title: All my friends are dead
Author: Avery Monsen

5/5

It’s a very short book that is absolutely likable despite revolving around death.

Book#22
Introduction to Computational Genomics A Case Studies Approach by Nello Cristianini
Title: Introduction to Computational Genomics: A Case Studies Approach

4/5

I loved the book, especially the case studies approach as it made it easier for me to apply what I’ve read without much hassle. I knocked a star off because I couldn’t follow some of the solution and had nowhere to check whether what I was doing was right or not.

Book#23
Various Pets Alive and Dead by Marina Lewycka

I’ll describe this book in one word: meh.

Book#24
The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry A Novel by Rachel Joyce
Title: The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry
Author: Rachel Joyce

3/5

Harold goes out to mail a letter to a long lost friend who has never cancer, but keeps on going and doesn’t stop till he arrives by her side. Mind you, it’s not a love story. It’s more a story of gratitude. I liked that. There are times in everyone’s life where holding on to idiotic superstition is the only thing holding your sanity intact.

I was preparing myself for another dystopian plot, where that certain man starts a rebellion against the unrestrained oppressors. Yet the book is much deeper than that. It explores whole different aspects of human nature.

The extent of creativity that went into making the settings of history and landscape which this takes place in is absolutely mind blowing!

I liked this, it was a good way to pass time on the airplane, and a not bad addition to the few graphic novels I've read.
