Lesley | 9 comments I love the idea of angels and/or demons as main characters, but so far I haven't had much luck finding them.
Can anyone recommend some? Doesn't have to be just in the romance genre, but would love it if I could find some.
Thanks!

new_user | 1389 comments Hey, lesley, I think the only book I've read with angels thus far is A Mermaid's Kiss by Joey W. Hill. I just finished it myself, and the emotional conflicts of the characters are very heartrending. I'll be reviewing it soon, but to give you a brief summary: the demons are more of the traditional monsters, the hero is an angel who has lost faith in his god and the mermaid (not the Disney kind) is the innocent who tries to redeem him.

Nancy (nancyjcohen) | 74 comments I'm trying to sell a paranormal romance with a demon and trolls as the villains, and am hoping some editor will want a lighter story that doesn't contain a vampire or werewolf. I'm glad there are readers who want something different. A thriller series that contains both angels and demons plus romance are the Cotten Stone books by Joe Moore and Lynn Sholes. Their latest title is The 731 Legacy. You'll be satisfied on both counts with their stories.

Joseph (bluemanticore) | 216 comments Three of my favorite urban fantasy series have demons as main characters:
Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series (first book is "Bitten")
Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan series (first book is "Dead Witch Walking")
Yasmine Galenorn's The Otherworld series (first book is "Witchling")

Richelle Mead's Georgina Kincaid series has a succubus as the main character, and her friends are demons and an angel. They're not the main characters, per se, but it's still a great series.

I just picked up Gena Showalter's The Darkest Night, which is the first book in the Lords of the Underworld series. The main guy seems to be sharing a body with a demon.

And, iirc, Larissa Ione's Pleasure Unbound has demons as the main characters. I haven't read it yet, but I've heard very good things.

message 6: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments I prefer Larissa Ione's Pleasure Unbound. You will really like it. Another is Christine Warren's "The Others" series, which has a few demons in it, though that's not all.

message 7: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Yeah, as far as demons, you can't go wrong with Pleasure Unbound.

message 8: by Roberta (new)

Roberta (roberta_broussard_novelist) | 10 comments Sharon Shinn has a whole series with angels in it. The first book is called Archangel, and I'd call them science fiction/fantasy romances.

message 9: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 09, 2009 09:23PM) (new)

Another recommendation for Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione, excellent. [image error]

I've heard good things about the angel series by Sharon Shinn.

Faith Hunter wrote a trilogy where angles are secondary characters, includes an interesting heroine. Think Bloodring is the first book. More UF than PnR
Host (Thorn St. Croix, Book 3) by Faith Hunter

message 10: by Jess (new)

Jess | 173 comments Lilth Saintcrow's Dante Valentine's series involves demons and the devil himself

message 11: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 320 comments Kresley Cole has two stories with demons as the main characters kiss of a demon king and dark desires after dusk

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) My favorite series with demons is Jenna Black's Morgan Kingsley series. Soooo good.

message 13: by Arlene (new)

Arlene | 6 comments Meljean Brook's guardian series' main characters are angels and demons. Guardians were once human but were chosen/offered to become guardians to help the angels fight against demons. They have wings and has angel powers but they may eventually choose to become human once more if they have a change of heart.
The first book I read was Demon Angel, which was book 2 of the series. The story spans centuries up to the present where this demon who was suppose to tempt a human to commit sin but eventually fell in love with him.
It's quite different but very good.

message 14: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 2 comments I have to say - I found that I love all things in the paranormal romance genere (after years of snubbing the "romance" section of my local Borders - boy, I didn't know what I was missing!!) And in the "demon" category, I really have enjoyed Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series (although I have to figure out a way to get my hands on the e-book of "The Darkest Fire" - without an e-book reader.... I love my paperbacks - I can't stand reading on the computer!!) and Jacquelyn Frank's Nightwalker Series - both of them have demons and all sorts of other things. Not a lot of angels, but definitely their own takes on the world of demons. I had just as hard a time putting those down as I have had with the Dark Hunter books and BDB books. Happy reading!

message 15: by Josephine (new)

Josephine (tyrrel) | 43 comments Kristen, you can order an e-book in PDF format and print it. I read "The Darkest Fire" on my computer but have seariously considered printing it to keep on my shelf.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Lesley, I can recommend Sharon Shinn's writing on angels. They're very well written, short, powerful books, with a lot of romance. No sex (from what I can remember), but very well written romantic tension. The first one, Archangel, is my personal fave.

message 17: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (rednikki) | 31 comments Another recommendation for Sharon Shinn's angel books (which is called the Samaria series, if I recall correctly). There isn't a one that I didn't like.

message 18: by Carol (new)

Carol (lucky47) | 5 comments Kristen mentioned the Nightwalker series, very good reads and there is also Erin McCartthy's "Seven Deadly Sins series" # 1 is My Immortal and # 2 is Fallen. The Fallen book is about Gabriel and Rapheal, angels who have been bound to Earth indefinitely because of submitting to human vices. I loved thhis one. So far there are only the two.
Carol L.

message 19: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey I love Faith Hunter's series which starts with Bloodring. Lots of sexual tension in them!

message 20: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ I just finished reading Mortal Temptations by Allyson James. This has an angel as the hero. Fabulously erotic. Seriously good book!

new_user | 1389 comments Just finished Angels' Blood and A Witch's Beauty (sequel to A Mermaid's Kiss), two excellent books featuring angels. :)

Jamie ~ Bad Boy Inspector (jamie_badboyinspector) | 45 comments Another recommendation for Larissa Ione's Demonica Series! They are great reads.

J.R. Ward is coming out with a new series that is due out in October. It is about fallen angels. They sound very good. I can't wait to dig my teeth into them.

Adrienne I have finished *A Mermaids Kiss*::loved this book even tho' the last few chapters are extremely emotional::at times i found i had to have a short break as the emotions are so tense::I seem to remember *new_user*::it was you wasn't it?:: wrote a really good review of this book::which sums up everything far, far better than i can::i think part of the reason i liked it so much is that it is very different from other *romances* i like the style of writing::and simple but at the same time really in depth storyline::i don't think what i've written does this book justice::I'm now waiting to order *A Witches Beauty*cos i need my fix of Joeys style of writing plus the angels in this story are just so damn good::the sex scenes aren't too bad either:)

message 26: by new_user (last edited Apr 04, 2009 04:29PM) (new)

new_user | 1389 comments I agree, Adrienne, there are a lot of unique moments in that series, especially the sometimes philosophical/metaphysical questions in the books that are very rare in romance, and I'm not referring to any discussion of Plato or anything. Hill's angel characters are ideal for exploring questions of good and evil in practice (and somehow still manage to be a sexy romance, LOL). I'll be interested to see what you think of the second book. :)

Sarah, do you think Mark of Chaos is PNR or more UF?

message 27: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne I've just marked this to read:: read the blurb::sound s good::sometimes it's good to get away from the norm::

message 28: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Since it seems to be my chosen duty in life, what kind of pusher would I be if I didn't chime in with A Rush of Wings by Adrian Pheonix? Fallen angels, vampires, a serial killer, Gothic images, hidden agendas, and of course, a smokin' hot man who is as compassionate as he is tortured.

It's UF rather than PNR, but please don't let that deter you-there's plenty that's steamy in this one.

There, I've fulfilled my duty for the day.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Adrienne wrote: "I read *In the Blood* twice in 7 days::it's awesome:: there are more angels than you can shake your feathers at::"

I have that one sitting by my bed. I need to get a few more read that are not part of a series and since I just finished A Rush of Wings, In The Blood wouldn't count towards the reading challenge. Although, come to think of it, I still have 13 days to finish only 4 books I think. I'll need to go check that out cuz I adore Dante and need more of him.

new_user | 1389 comments Yikes! A month? I was at our Borders and I was actually kind of surprised to see a few copies. I guess the staff keeps up with the trends in the romance world, LOL.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish A Witches Beauty, is that the sequel to A Mermaid's Kiss? The covers are similar, same author. Need they be read in order?

I'm going to read Kiss of Midnight right now, did I already mention that? :)

message 40: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Yep, that's the sequel, Uniquely Moi. The second book reveals the fate of the couple from book one so it's a little bit of a spoiler, and you meet the second book's characters in book one, where they have their first memorable encounter. So it's up to you. You won't be lost if you read the second book first, but the background for the characters' relationship is kind of set up in the first.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish OK, thanks new_user. I will read book 1 first. It was a nightmare tracking it down. I had to drive to a B&N 45 miles away, down a mountain pass to get it! It better be good. LOL

couldn't understand it myself::however when you think that all romance is lumped together over here you can see what i'm up against:)::the big waterstones in Birmingham has a the wonderfully titled *American Romance* which is precisely that::if its marked as romance:: has a racey cover::and its an import::that's where it goes::Ho Hum::what i can't understand is why Amazon has copies that arrive the very next day::

Adrienne right then:: i'm probably 2/3 of the way thru A Witch's Beauty:: i'm really really enjoying it::theres alot of stuff going there::it has bit of everything::well nearly everything:: its very subtly written::and for me smmolders along and at nice pace::

message 46: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (satori1977) | 47 comments I second Larissa Ione's Demonica series. Very hot, very well written. Demons (as mostly good guys/love interests) and one fallen angel.

And I really enjoy Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series. Not demons in every story, but in Paige's books there are.

message 47: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne I haven't read either of these aeries , maybe when I 've caught upto date with some of the other ones I've got on the go. The Succubus series by Richelle Mead also has Demons and Angels. I think since we all lasted posted over here there has been surge in Angel themed books at one time the theme was very original (or so I thought) but now I think you have to be more picky about who you read. YA seems to be particularly inundated.

message 48: by Sonya (new)

Sonya | 13 comments A wicked YA Book Personal Demons (Personal Demons, #1) by Lisa Desrochers !!!
If you like a love triangle between an hot Angel, a dangerously hot Demon, and an ordinary girl with something special about her.

message 49: by Bird (new)

Bird (thebird) | 20 comments I'll add my recommendation of Larissa Ione's Demonica series if you're looking for a good series featuring demons.

As far as angels, Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series (first book is Angels' Blood) is absolutely amazing. It has made me slightly obsessive about angel stories, and they're quite difficult to find! In this series, the angels are sexy and fierce. What more can you ask for? I'm (im)patiently waiting for the third book in the series to be released next year.

message 50: by Keri (new)

Keri | 50 comments This series by Sunny is really good and very sexual! There aren't any angels but there are demons - my favorite character in this series is the High Prince of Hell.
