Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 6062 comments I need some help, please. I need a book that has a one sided-love in it. My other options for the category are LGBT romance or a manga. Since I don't read either of those LOL, it's one-sided love.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Interesting, Susan. I've only seen GLBT; glad you are putting the ladies first, LOL!

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg would count for that category.

I'll have to think on the latter a bit more. If you want a book that is a bit one-sided-love - at least at first, but ends with a HEA, then these might work:

Falling for Gracie by Susan Mallery Call Me Irresistible (Wynette, Texas #6) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips On the Way to the Wedding (Bridgertons, #8) by Julia Quinn

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 6062 comments Can I read any of those without reading the previous books? Or will I be lost?

message 4: by Heather (new)

Heather (messybar) | 1307 comments One sided love of a kind:
Shades Of Twilight by Linda Howard one of my favorite stories of all time.

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 6062 comments That one looks good, Heather :)

message 6: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments I would say you can read the SEP one w/o reading the others. In fact, it might be a better experience, as I don't think the characters that are "return characters" would have treated the heroine the way that they did in that book. (That was one of my major problems with it.)

So, you didn't say, Susan... can it be a HEA ending?

message 7: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (last edited Mar 20, 2012 05:00PM) (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments I would go with the one Heather posted. It is VERY good. Excellent even.

message 8: by Susan (susayq ~), Moderator (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 6062 comments There isn't a condition that it can't be a HEA, so I'd say YES!

message 9: by Heather (new)

Heather (messybar) | 1307 comments If you pick it up Susan, I hope you enjoy it!

message 10: by Heather (new)

Heather (messybar) | 1307 comments There is also Sarah's Child (Sarah, #1) by Linda Howard , same author. Or Not His Wife by Sally Tyler Hayes by Sally Tyler Hayes. Both are also frequent re-reads of mine and fit the one-sided love too. I must like that story plot. lol

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Well, then, if we're going in that direction....there is Angel's Rest (Eternity Springs, #1) by Emily March

~Megan~ (megadee) See, now that is one Linda Howard book I haven't read! Is it historical?

message 13: by Susan (susayq ~), Moderator (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 6062 comments I haven't read any Linda Howard.

Which one, Megan? LOL, doesn't really matter I guess. Neither Shades of Twilight or Sarah's Child is historical.

Gonna check that one out.

message 16: by ~Megan~ (new)

~Megan~ (megadee) Shades of Twilight...sorry! I re-read Sarah's Child often!

I enjoyed Angel's Rest....it's really good in audio format, too!

message 17: by Shadow Jubilee (new)

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) Hmm, recommendations are one-sided love turning into mutual love?

In that case,

Blind Promises by Diana Palmer Anne of the Island (Anne of Green Gables, #3) by L.M. Montgomery All-American Father by Anna DeStefano

Couldn't Wither (The Chemical Garden, #1) by Lauren DeStefano be considered one-sided love, at least on the (main) secondary character's side?

I've heard it is really good on audio, which Megan confirmed.

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 6062 comments my library people are stupid. Looked online to see what Linda Howard books they had, they have Sarah's Child (Sarah, #1) by Linda Howard . I couldn't find it where it was supposed to be. I asked the lady for help and she says "oh it's withdrawn, it was a paperback copy". I come home and check again, and nope, they're supposed to have a copy of it in the Alabama section since the author is from Alabama. GRRR

Sorry, I had to vent....now off to see what I can find...

message 30: by Susan (susayq ~), Moderator (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 6062 comments Yes, please, Megan! I wanted to read both of them!

message 31: by ~Megan~ (new)

~Megan~ (megadee) Can you message me your email address?

message 32: by Susan (susayq ~), Moderator (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 6062 comments Megan, did I ever message you my email addy? I don't remember LOL

Ladies, let me just tell you, I started Shades Of Twilight by Linda Howard last night and got through the prologue and half way through the first chapter and had to quit. Why on earth would the grandmother love snotty Jessie more than Roanna? Just cause Roanna is a typical 7 year old and doesn't like to stay still? And Jessie's treatment of Roanna had me wanting to reach through the pages and snap her neck! And like I said, half way through chapter one. So this morning, I go look at all of your reviews and I'm thinking OBVIOUSLY I need to try to read this at another time cause you all LOVED it LOL

Regardless of not remembering if I gave Megan my email addy, I found a copy of Sarah's Child (Sarah, #1) by Linda Howard and started reading it after the Shades of Twilight anger. I almost threw my precious Braxton across the room in the first chapter of this! I swear, if they would have had sex right then in the first 10% of the book, after he balled like a baby over his dead wife, I would have flounced this one too. Thankfully, I forced myself to keep reading and learned they didn't. But he was really cruel to her. (I'm going to be crying reading this, won't I? But it's ok, ya'll know I love angsty stuff) I don't get why he was so angry with her though...so he's had the hots for her for a LONG time. Is that really her fault? Especially since he did nothing about it all those years and she's been in love with him for just as long. Please tell me it doesn't take the whole book for him to get over being an asshat to her.

message 33: by Sandra J (new)

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 361 comments IIRC, Rome is an asshat for pretty much the whole book. There's a fairly satisfying grovel at the end, but I would have tossed his butt out the door long before that. Although I liked Sarah's Child (Sarah, #1) by Linda Howard well enough, it's sure not my favorite. OTOH, I really liked Shades Of Twilight by Linda Howard . One of my favorites of her older books is Heart of Fire by Linda Howard -a heroine who's smart and doesn't take any crap from the hero or anyone else, a rogue of a hero, and an Amazon adventure. What's not to like?

message 34: by ~Megan~ (new)

~Megan~ (megadee) No, you didn't Susan....but I'm glad you found a copy!

Rome is pretty much a jerk for the majority of the book. If you think his behavior is bad now, just wait LOL! But I forgave him because he was grieving, and he realized his stupidity in the end. I thought Sarah was a really brave and wonderful heroine.

Heart of Fire is great, Sandra J!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments I tried reading Sarah's Child (Sarah, #1) by Linda Howard last year. Even special ordered it. Alas, I couldn't get past the beginning either. Rome was too much of an asshat for me, grieving or not. Still have the book and may give it another try at a later day; it is Ms. Howard, after all.

Loved Shades Of Twilight by Linda Howard and don't know how many times I've read it. Not that it didn't push my buttons! And, yeah, the grandmother's a trip.

I have Heart of Fire by Linda Howard lined up to read this month b/c it is about a big red diamond - though my cover looks like the Spanish version Corazón de fuego by Linda Howard - but is in English. I got it for 50¢ at my Friends of the Library Booksale; can’t beat that. I’ll let you ladies know my verdict.

message 36: by ~Megan~ (new)

~Megan~ (megadee) It is a fun adventure book, Lisa Kay! I think you'll like it!

message 37: by Heather (new)

Heather (messybar) | 1307 comments I have to agree with everyone else, Susan. Rome was an asshat for most of it, but I still have a love for that book and Sarah.
Hope you do give Shades another go, as its my all time fave. I know the start is difficult to get through, but the next 2/3 are fantastic!
Love the adventure in Heart of Fire! Loved the characters more and have read it several times too. I have a lovefest with Linda Howard.

message 38: by Susan (susayq ~), Moderator (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 6062 comments Well, I'm trudging along with Rome and Sarah. It's amazing me how much he wants to be with her and truly enjoys being with her. He hadn't been jerky again, but I'm not that far into it LOL I'll keep y'all updated

message 39: by Susan (susayq ~), Moderator (last edited Apr 12, 2012 08:00AM) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 6062 comments I finished Sarah and Rome. He wasn't as bad as I thought he'd be. I wouldn't have stayed with him if I were Sarah; I don't care how much I loved him, or for how long I had loved him. I wouldn't have even considered subjecting my child to being out and out ignored by their father. AND, he didn't grovel enough for my liking ;)

I'll try Shades Of Twilight by Linda Howard again another time :)

Thank you all for your suggestions!
