Timothy Davis | 120 comments Hi Everyone. We're moving the discussion of The Lightning Thief over here. Thanks!

☼Bookish in Virginia☼ (ren_t) I thought this whole series was wonderful. Well written, good plotting, funny and interesting. It managed to have action without excessive violence and there was nothing objectionable in terms of 'adult situations' or language.

Timothy Davis | 120 comments I certainly agree that there is nothing in the Percy Jackson series that would make it inappropriate for 9+. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

Timothy Davis | 120 comments Thanks Vivian! I want to remind everyone that a couple of topics were introduced before we moved the discussion here, and there's plenty of other topics we could discuss as well. [1] Anyone have an answer yet to Erik's question--what are the names of Medusa's two sisters. [2] Who's your favorite god? Thanks, folks!

Timothy Davis | 120 comments Does anyone find that Percy seems a littler slow on accepting that he's a demigod?

Erik This Kid Reviews Books (ThisKidReviewsBooks) | 32 comments I think if someone told me that it would be hard to believe (although really cool)!

Timothy Davis | 120 comments Yeah. I think it is pretty cool when Percy decides to trust his father and dives off the Gateway Arch into the Mississippi River. What do you (or anyone) think is one or two of the coolest things Percy or Annabeth does?

Erik This Kid Reviews Books (ThisKidReviewsBooks) | 32 comments I think one of the coolest things Percy did in book #1 is fight Ares. I think Annabeth is just cool altogether. I like the out-of-toilet swirlie that Clarisse and her mean friends got, too!

Mark Smith | 6 comments It's been awhile since I read book #1. I remember really wanting to like the book and therefore, of course, feeling a little let down. But I'm a curmudgeon, so what do I know. I do remember that I did and do recommend it for my son, who turns 10 next week. However, he's a bit easily spooked by those scenes that tend to come back and haunt him in bed when he closes his eyes. He saw the movie and there were some bits where he covered his eyes. But, for his age, I'd recommend the books and will continue to offer it to him. It just takes a bit for me to convince him he's a bit older since last time and that it wouldn't scare him now.
