No, I have only read Shattered Dreams. This is the first that I heard of Favorite Wife. I couldn't put Shattered Dreams down, so now I have another book to look forward to. Thanks for sharing!

I have read both. I read Shattered Dreams first. I think they are both good books. Susan is mentioned in Shattered Dreams, but her side of the story is not defined. I think they are both worthy reads - different POV's. One thing is certain...after reading these books, you have a very clear understanding of the life of polygamy from the wife's POV.
I read them both. Considering the women were married to the same man, they really don't mention the other very often. Being the wife of an idiot like Verlan must have been painfull. No wonder these women hold onto their religion- without it not one woman would put up with him.
He moves his wives into Mexico and builds them small homes with 3 rooms (2 beds and a kitchen/dining) and these women have a LOT of kids. He leaves them down in Mexico while he works in the U.S. he must not be working too hard cuz the one Christmas she mentions he went to a dollar store and grabbed about ten bucks worth of cheap toys he bags up. Each wife gets the same thing too!!!
I did prefer "Favorite Wife" over "Shattered Dreams".
I read Shattered Dreams and absolutely could not put it down. It is a must read if you are interested in reading about polygamy. I have been wanting to read Favorite Wife for a while but haven't gotten it yet.
I've read them both. I preferred Shattered Dreams because I thought it did a better job of telling about the whole family experience and everything going on. Also, since she was the second wife and was around for the whole experience, I think her view point was considerably different. Too many of these stories are one sided and just sensationalize the bad but Irene shared a lot of good times with members of the family and such. She even had me laughing pretty hard a few times just picturing what she was writing about. I thought it was a "fair" book for anyone who might have those beliefs. I really hate it when people criticize others for their beliefs (or lack thereof), whatever they might be, so that is MY opinion.
