Roger Cave | 129 comments Meet the Author (reboot) – Roger Cave

Hi all

Hopefully a number of you will have seen the free offer yesterday and managed to pick up the first book in the series for free. Yesterday the first in the series reached the number one spot in the action and adventure series, and number fourteen in thrillers.

But it doesn’t stop there. There are another eight full novels in the series, with another one on the way. In addition, there is a compendium of short stories.

To keep the ball rolling, I’m keeping the books cheap, and I mean really cheap. You can have over half a million words for less than a tenner if you took on the whole series.

The Barcza Gambit
Sicilian Defence
White King
White King
Zugzwang
Octopus Knight
Medusa Defence
Deep Blue
Grand Prix Variation
Queen's Knight
Fried Fox and English Rat

I’m open to questions about the books, and would enjoy someone coming on the thread to join in.

Keep in mind the Alec Fincham series will continue, with more full novels and short stories to be released this year,

I’ll look forward to hearing from you

Best wishes
Rog

Roger Cave | 129 comments Hi Jud

Yep, quite a few!

There the right words too, just not necessarily in the right order! Only kidding of course, I just hope people enjoy them

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56524 comments Wow Jud! That was a lot of work! Thanks for that!

message 7: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments No problem Patti. As you may notice I didn't do a lot of work in work today... Not sure why they are showing twice though. I must have been sleeping for a minute or 2

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56524 comments Twice is better than none.

message 9: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Indeed. No excuse for people not downloading them now!

message 10: by Roger (new)

Roger Cave | 129 comments Yes indeed, Jud, thanks for the links.

Been a little busy myself at work, and now typing at home. Just finished book 10, but have the editing and proofing yet to do.

So little time, so many books!

message 11: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments You're telling me Roger! Have you seen how long the list of authors threads is? I've only managed to read the tip of that iceberg. Roll on retirement, only 40 odd years to go.

message 12: by Roger (new)

Roger Cave | 129 comments I can't even keep up with own books and reading what I have on my Kindle, and there are so many new and talented writers.

message 13: by Roger (new)

Roger Cave | 129 comments Looks like the first review from the promotional day has come through, and it's a good one, if a little brief.
I also note this person bought the short stories a while back an left a review their too, bonus.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Barcza Gambit, 30 Mar 2012
By B S ROBINSON
This review is from: The Barcza Gambit (The Alec Fincham Novels #1) (Kindle Edition)
The Barcza Gambit is a very good read with an intriguing storyline allowing you to get to know the main characters but leaving you wanting to know more. Just bought the second book in the series to see where the next adventure takes us.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56524 comments Great review Roger! Brief is good. When it comes to reviews I prefer brief. I never bother reading long ones.

message 15: by Roger (new)

Roger Cave | 129 comments Cheers Patti, I'm just thrilled that someone has enjoyed the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wartime reality, that's what my husband called it!, April 12, 2012
By MelanieR795 - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Barcza Gambit

My husband insisted that I pass on his thoughts on this book. Five of five! He, being a veteran, absolutely enjoyed the realism employed. The writing was professional and easy to follow. No spoilers. He told me nothing else. Only that its a five star read.

And don't forget the other nine available stories. Plus the tenth novel is in editing at the momenet and will be released soon.

Roger Cave | 129 comments Looking for a series similar in construct to the James Bond series for the 21st century?

Then look no further than the Alec Fincham series. Fincham is seconded to the Special Operation Department of M.I.6. as a man of last resort. Although he is part of the Special Boat Service, he takes his orders from Sir Charles Cunningham at Vauxhall Cross. He and his team are sent all over the world to protect the interests of the Crown and his Government.

There are currently nine books in the series, and a couple of short stories. Each is available for £2.99, and I have included a word count on the description pages, so you know what you’re getting for your money.

The Barcza Gambit
Sicilian Defence
White King
White King
Zugzwang
Octopus Knight
Medusa Defence
Deep Blue
Grand Prix Variation
Queen's Knight
Fried Fox and English Rat

There is another full novel to follow, Snake Variation, which should be out soon, and a novella (45000: words), Mongoose Variation on the way (just finished it and I’m arranging the editing).

Snake Variation take place during the Arab Spring, and fits the timeline of events as the actually happened. Could it be a version of the truth?
Mongoose Variation take Fincham back to chasing down n Kristina von Priller (from Fried Fox), and he has to prevent a future world war.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56524 comments Aw Roger. That sux. :(

Roger Cave | 129 comments Are you looking for novels in the style of Andy McNab, Duncan Falconer, Ian Fleming, and Chris Ryan?

Then why not give one, or more, of the Alec Fincham novels a try?
Commander Alec Fincham is a member of the elite Special Boat Service and his Government have unique jobs that require his specific talents.

There are currently ten books in the series and a couple of short stories. They are available for £1.00 each:

The Barcza Gambit
Sicilian Defence
White King
Zugzwang
Octopus Knight
Medusa Defence
Deep Blue
Grand Prix Variation
Queen's Knight
Snake Variation
Monticelli Trap
Mongoose Variation
Fried Fox and English Rat

Roger Cave | 129 comments Perhaps I should actually provide some background to the novels?

Some have said they are crime novels, or action/adventure, or even war and espionage based. Perhaps a mix of all these is true.

Fincham is a professional soldier in the Special Boat Service, but is seconded to M.I.6. at Vauxhall Cross to investigate and in some instances assassinate person, or persons, who are deemed a threat to national security.

This sees him and his team travel the world at behest of the British Government.

Of course, there are guns, girls, and cars, but not in the Bond way. Nevertheless, a reviewer did compare the novels to Flemings famous creation, in that the books will leave you shaken and stirred.

Roger Cave | 129 comments I've decided, writing thrillers can make you a little twisted.

So in the books, I've killed characters in the following ways.
Shot
Stabbed
Eaten
Thrown from the NatWest Tower
Poisoned
Blown them up
Strangled
Drowned
And skewered.

And to believe I'm such a quiet person, you'd never believe I'd come up with these things!

message 22: by Roger (new)

Roger Cave | 129 comments Alec Fincham is his Governments man of last resort, and these days he seems to be always busy. As professional soldier in the Special Boat Service (similar to a US Navy SEAL), he’s a highly trained killer. At heart he is a soldier, honourable and proud, but in modern times, his skills are needed by M.I.6. when there is no one else to turn to.

Fincham and his small team have to fight many a battle through the entire series of the books, which see him travel the globe. The adventures are set in the US, Sicily, Rome, Egypt, Australia, Singapore, Bahrain, Afghanistan and Iraq amongst many others.

The Barcza Gambit
Sicilian Defence
White King
Zugzwang
Octopus Knight
Medusa Defence
Deep Blue
Grand Prix Variation
Queen's Knight
Snake Variation
Monticelli Trap
Torre Attack
Mongoose Variation
Fried Fox and English Rat

For £\$1.00 they are full-length novels and may be your cup of tea. Why not try and sample and see if you like what you read.

And don’t forget to some and see me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Roger-...

message 23: by Roger (new)

Roger Cave | 129 comments Each of the books are available for £1.16 each and should keep you entertained for some time.

Alec Fincham is part of the SBS, he’s based out of Poole in Dorset. His missions have taken him to America (Florida), Egypt, Australia, Singapore, Afghanistan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Sicily and Italy, Crete, Ukraine, Libya, Oman, Abu Dhabi, Venezuela and Germany.

For some of these locations, I have relied upon personal experience, others an awful lot of research.

I’m currently working on the next story in the series, which takes Fincham Georgia (the one next to Russia) and beyond.

The Barcza Gambit
Sicilian Defence
White King
Zugzwang
Octopus Knight
Medusa Defence
Deep Blue
Grand Prix Variation
Queen's Knight
Snake Variation

Roger Cave | 129 comments Before the release of book 14, Accelerated Dragon, why don't you take the chance to take in some of Alec Fincham's earlier adventures.

The Barcza Gambit - Someone wants to keep the Americans in Iraq, and they have a plan of how they are going to do it.
Sicilian Defence - The Sicilian Mafia are smuggling people out of North Africa, and they non too bothered about the threat these people could pose.
White King - Fincham has to Venezuelan drug king, who has targeted the Royal Navy after some drug seizures. This is going to be far more complex than Fincham ever thought possible.
Zugzwang - In an attempt to strike back at the people who killed his boy, a man hatches a plot to kill 500,000 Iraqis.
Octopus Knight - Drugs and arms are being smuggled out of the Ukraine, and Fincham has to tackle the problem in the wastelands of Chernobyl.
Medusa Defence - Fincham is sent to babysit a glamour mode,l who had a close relationship with an MP. Fincham has to travel half way round the world to protect her.
Deep Blue - A giant, blue diamond sets off a chain of events. Death and destruction follow this stone, wherever it goes.
Grand Prix Variation - An IT specialist who develops kit for the military, and owns a GP Team, is targeted by terrorists. Does Fincham protect the man, the team, or go after the threat directly?
Queen's Knight - Fincham has to travel to Egypt in an attempt to rescue a woman. However, little does he know, but the chain of events started much closer to home.
Snake Variation - During the Arab Spring, Fincham is sent to Libya to intercept a rogue SAS Team. In a country so fractured, Fincham has threats coming at him from all sides.
Torre Attack - Quinto Angelito Torre is a man not to be meddled with. He's a crime boss, drug lord, and a collector of antiquities. Fincham has a simple task, watch him! But as he gets closer to the target, things suddenly spiral out of control.
Monticelli Trap - Fincham returns to Italy, but his reputation proceeds him. Suddenly his short vacation becomes a living nightmare.
Red Queen - The British Government is given the chance to bid on a rare selection of diamonds. However, that's not what everyone is actually buying. Fincham must obtain the diamonds, but the Russians, Chinese, and Israelis will quite happily kill him to get to the diamonds first.

There's plenty of action, with both Fincham, and his team, running around the globe protecting British interests, and protecting his Government.

Roger Cave | 129 comments Alec Fincham is seconded to MI6 to investigate, and terminate, any actions which may not be in the best interests of his country.

He travels the world, often getting himself, and his small team from the Special Boat Service, in hot water.

Ultimately, he has to place himself in harm's way to get the job done, and once he starts a mission, he has to see it through, no matter what.

Roger Cave | 129 comments The first book in the Alec Fincham Series.
The Americans want out of Iraq; to withdraw all their troops and return home. However, for some of the neighboring countries, this leaves an unstable and unchecked regime in close proximity - How do you get the American War Machine to stay put, and possibly deal with your other enemies in the process?
And here's the new cover for The Barcza Gambit.
Keep an eye out for all the new covers in the coming days!

The names behind the Alec Fincham novels are all related to chess. They will be in relation to plays, moves, pieces, etc.
The pieces/plays form part of the story, and as a re-launch, all the books will have new covers, which more accurately represent the stories told within.
All the books follow the operations of Commander Alec Fincham. He works for MI6, sometimes alone, sometimes as part of a team from the Special Boat Service - All of the books are action filled military, or espionage, based thrillers.
