Rachel | 3612 comments just curious if anyone has checked out the new tv show awake and if so what everyone's thoughts were.

For those not familiar with the show it's about a man who can't tell when he's dreaming vs. being awake. he lives in 2 realities- in one his wife has been killed in a car accident and his teenage son has survived. in the other it's the opposite his wife survived and his son didn't. he's a police detective and he has 2 different partners (1 for each reality-he also has 2 different psychiatrists-) the realities alternate everytime he goes to sleep.

love to hear your theories!

Alternate Realities! I would love this - that is what Fringe is about also and Fringe is my favorite show! I don't have cable. I haven't heard of Awake, but if it's available to watch free online I would love to check it out :-)

Tracy | 140 comments That sounds like Ted Dekker's circle series. Thomas Hunter, the character in the series, does that same thing.

Rachel | 3612 comments it's on NBC thursdays at 10pm- not sure if it's available online. hope you are able to check it out-it's a great show that just started this month.

Just watched the Pilot and I'm hooked. I love shows that make the viewer think :-) I don't have any theory yet, but will keep you posted. Will try to watch more Awake tomorrow.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2328 comments I had high hopes for it and watched the first couple of episodes. I'm losing interest as it sort of settles into a two sided police procedural (I like police procedurals, but this one hasn't grabbed me with it's added dimension of "what do these two cases have in common) with soap opera overtones (son in one world wife in other). May be just me I suppose. Hope it gets better.

message 9: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 3612 comments glad you liked it dustin!

sorry you are disappointed in the show mike :(

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2328 comments Well, jury's still out, but I didn't catch it this week. I'll probably check it out again.

message 11: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) Dustin, I knew you would like it. It's definitely your kind of show, mine too.

Mike, it doesn't necessarily have 'what do these two cases in common', it's more that one case gives clues to the other reality's case whether they're related or not. I find that interesting.

I hate cop shows, I find them dull and utterly boring since I know 'whodunit' in under 5 minutes. Not so with one, if it was gonna be like that, I planned on dropping it right away. Having a cop as the main character was the one drawback for me to add this show, and I did so with trepidation. Yet this has enough to keep me interested, despite the fact that he's a cop. I like that I have to think about stuff, not being led by the nose like most other crappy cop shows.
The only cop show I watch and enjoy is Luther, now that's how cop shows should be. I can hardly wait for the new season, whenever that'll be.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2328 comments I got that Jackie. I'd just like to see a little more coherent plotting about what really went on. We know that dirty cops were behind the "accident" but we also know it's much more than that. It's a lot like Alcatraz was with the murderer of the week over shadowing the fantasy aspect.

Like I said, I'll probably check it out again.

message 13: by Jackie (last edited Mar 28, 2012 02:04PM) (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) Mike, you hit on the one thing I can't stand anymore. After going through Lost and it's tiny teases, million questions and minimal answers, I'm loathe to care one iota about the dirty cops and the accident. That's the one thing we're not gonna get much about, they'll drag that out til the end of the season and maybe we'll get answers but more than likely they'll just string us along for the next season with a cliffhanger.

I dropped Alcatraz because it was too much like Lost in the format with those horrible aspects I mentioned above. From what my friends tell me, I was smart to get out early.

I never did view Alcatraz because I ended up canceling my cable, but I was going to give it a try.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2328 comments They did their "first season finale" this week. Ended with the typical cliff hanger.

Finale already? How many episodes were there? Maybe it was like a 12 episode run - I guess that is typical.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2328 comments Network probably only bought a few episodes for the first run.

It's actually a very competitive poll. Just have to keep it up through the end of the week. My understanding is the poll ends at the end of the month which will be Saturday Night.

message 22: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 3612 comments I don't know who destiny is but i voted for her.

message 23: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 3612 comments Did anyone see Awake last night? How do you think the serial killer is going to fit into the storyline- I assume he will be back based on the phone call and that he and the main character appear to both be headed to portland.

message 24: by Jackie (last edited Mar 30, 2012 03:19PM) (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) Seems obvious to me that he'll be back by that phone call and going to Portland. Too bad he hung before the airport announcement. Britten has no clue.

Destiny Ann Burton 54% 15,889 votes.

Rachel wrote: "I don't know who destiny is but i voted for her."

Destiny is my daughter. She has a rare condition and part of it is she can't regulate her body temperature - it's hard for her to keep her body cool, so the poll is for a cooling pad to help when she sleeps. Thanks for voting.

Haven't watched any more episodes yet....but I will :-)

message 26: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 3612 comments Can I vote more than once a day? I'd like to vote for her as much as i can. She was in the lead when i voted earlier today- I hope she wins.

Yes. There is no limit to the number of votes. Feel free to vote multiple times daily. We just have to keep her ahead for today and tomorrow. The poll should close after Saturday - end of the month. The competition is very competitive - you can see from the number of votes cast, so please vote as often as you would like during the next two days :-) and Thanks.

The cooling pad only costs about $140 plus shipping but if we can get it free... well, that's something. Destiny doesn't live with me, I told her mom I would buy one of these cooling pads if Destiny doesn't win. I'd rather not have to buy it though :-)
