Personally, my favorite character is Aibileen. She is wise, courageous, honest, and funny. After all, Aibileen was the first maid to help Miss Skeeter with her book. The end of the book was absolutely heartbreaking. I almost cried when Miss Leefolt and Miss Hilly fired Aibileen. I also love Mae Mobley. My heart breaks when I think of Mae Mobley living with her mean "mamma". Mae Mobley must be crushed when she finds out that Aibileen has left. What do you think?

I finished the book worried about poor little Mae Mobley - but she was a girl who Abileen had taught inner self-belief. A wonderful read that brought out a tear more than once.
Mine was Ms. Skeeter, the fact she went against what was seen as "right" at the time to write the book and to get it published. She never gave up and in the end was an author.
Personally I thought that Celia Foote was my favorite character and her husband was plain adorable and so funny and helpful and a complete blessing to have and I consider that Celia was very fortunate for such a loving and caring husband as Jonny.
I liked Celia Foote--her naivete and sweetness charmed me. I also liked Skeeter--her bravery in standing up to people and going against the status quo at that time took my breath away. Minnie's gumption and spirit impressed me. However, I loved Abilene--her wisdom, warmth, and generosity completely captivated me. I like to think that Mae Mobley treasured Abilene's message and learned to trust herself and overcome the racism and cruelty of her background.
i liked ms skeeter, her courage to write the story,,,it's really amazing, it's hard to stand in what you believe in but someone else have a different one
I liked Celia because she was down-to-earth and was color-blind. She was grateful to Minnie and saw her as a valuable asset, practically the only one who realized what "The Help" must be going through. I also felt sorry for her because she wanted a child so badly and was unable to conceive.
Celia Foote!!!! I LOVE her personality! And all the things she went through, she still had a happy ending! Celia all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I honestly fell in love with all the characters - well, the "nice" ones anyway :) Aibileen, Skeeter, Minny, Celia, Celia's husband, Mae Mobley - all wonderful. It's on my re-read list!
Celia Foote! Although I loved Constanine, even though she didn't play a character in their current time, I hear she is in the movie though? When Miss Skeeter talks about her when she was around?
Celia Foote! :D Especially in the movie, where she throws half the content of the Coke bottle all over the garden, because Minnie accepts. Absolutely Love that scene.

I liked Minnie cause of her personality. My heart went out to Ms Skeeter for sticking to her gun and doing what she thought was right to her.
Aibileen. On the other side of the coin, I think we'd all agree on our favourite to hate is Hilly. What a cow.
It was an all over great book, who can pick the best person. Everyone made me laugh or cry or feel like "it would be better if?" It was a time to remember and a time of change. I listened to it on audio and Cassandra Campbell made is so enjoying and so alive with truth about the times and each character as they lived their lives.
Minnie, hands down!! She was the most complex character that interacted with the most interesting women.
Aibileen. Though Minny sure is kick ass, Aibileen shows some kind of deep sense of strength. Maybe its the tone of her character or maybe it is because it was she who cooperated with Skeeter first..
Minne and Celia stand out in my mind but I loved all the characters in the book as well as the book itself. Have yet to see the movie but it is on my to see list.
I think both Aibileen and Miss Skeeter are great characters, but tha fact that Miss Skeeter always thought about Constantine was rather annoying. But I have to admit that I couldn't put the book away when Miss Skeeter's part was.Aibileen is still my favourite. Her whole story and her relationship with Mae Mobley is just so upsetting.

She didn't try to change the person that she was to fit in.
I love Minnie! I love her attitude and the way she is always on the look out and how protective she is. I especially love her chocolate pie trick!
Skeeter without a doubt. She wasn't afraid to do what she knew was righy... socialism didn't matter, or race. It was the heart! And Minnie, second.
Miss Celia. There was just something about her that made you want to scream in her face to snap out of it because you know that she's such a strong person at heart. And I think that's what made me like her.
I found it hard to choose a favourite character... mainly because I think they complement each other so well. If I had to choose, I would say Aibileen first, Miss Skeeter second. I base this on how much I looked forward to their chapters. But choosing a favourite in this book - that's hard...
Minnie is my absolute favorite character in this book - she is courageous, funny and has a heart of gold.
iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii lllllllllllllllllllllllloooooooooooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee minnie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm... I liked all of them, even Hilly. I know she's a hypocrite and a racist, but she makes the book THE book, ya know? Even Mrs. Leefolt and Stewart! Especially Celia with her naiveness. And when she beats that naked guy up for hurting Minnie, that was on of the most funniest parts of this book! I was happy when Minnie left Leroy, he was a buttwiipe. Sorry if I spell these names wrong!
I have no choice but say I loved all the characters. Each had a role in the story- Wao what an incredible book
I loved Celia. The scene in which she beats the naked intruder is the best in the book- I can't believe it didn't make it into the movie!
It's too hard to pick out of them all. Just reading all the above comments made me teary all over again. I have yet to see the movie because I wanted to wait and read the book first. I had bought it a long time before the movie ever came out (i know, i am so behind). It brought back all the feelings I felt when I was a child and first learned about these things. Even as a child, it made no sense to me that a person could treat another person so poorly because of their skin color. I love all of these good woman, and Iknow that they are real somewhere..
Its hard to pick! But I think if I had to, I would pick Ms. Celia. Her and Minnie formed a heart warming relationship.
Cecelia wrote: "Celia Foote! Although I loved Constanine, even though she didn't play a character in their current time, I hear she is in the movie though? When Miss Skeeter talks about her when she was around?"Love this part as well!
I love Abileen. I relate to her in that she loves the children she takes care as her own. I am a nanny and feel the same toward the children I have taken care of.
My favorite character is hard to choose...either Skeeter or Aibileen. So, rather than choose, I would say it's the friendship between the two women. I love the way it grew gradually from wary to steadfast and the respect and love they developed for each other that grew to be so much more than the common aim they shared. I also loved the idea of how such a friendship can have such powerful consequences...enough to change a world.
