I cannot say that I have a favorite book. I mostly read non-fiction, and more recent books. I do like Hadji Murad by Tolstoy, and A Hero of Our Time by Lermontov. Do you have other suggestions for fiction about the Caucasus?

My favorite Caucasus book is Ali and Nino. I also like Erlom Akhvlediani's short stories about Vano and Niko very much and Fazil Iskander's stories about Chegem. Other books that come to mind are Penelope by Goar Markosyan-Kasper (I know it's available in Russian and my native Dutch for sure, but I am not sure it's been translated into English) and Gilgamesh by Joan London. Both are set in Armenia. They're both not bad, but I'm not sure they're among my favorite fiction books about the Caucasus.
