The Skull Alphabet is unusual and the reader has hints in the illustrations so they can guess what animal is represented.

I just ran across A Pacific Alphabet and I love the illustrations by Dianna Bonder. Really fun!

I haven't read too many alphabet books (yet!) but one of my favorite books as a child was A Is for Annabelle

Well it's due to my newness as a member that I posted something you've all covered!

For practicality and learning, we love Abadaba Alphabet and The Alphabet Book in Usborne's Barnyard Tales series.

For beauty and artistic value, we love An African ABC

And last but not least, for nonfiction, we love Alphabet of Dinosaurs and Alphabet of Insects. These were produced in cooperation with the Smithsonian and come with CDs.

Listopia is fun, isn't it? :) I just wish it didn't penalize you for adding more books. Every time you add another book to a list, your previous votes on that list are worth less. But really the point isn't to get your books to "win" as much as it is to work together to create great lists of books. Although it is more fun when your favorite books are at the top of the list. :)

I really like the Toot and Puddle alphabet book--of course, the actual name escapes me. When I would read it to my son (when he was much younger), we always had to chuckle at the "itchy inch worm" illustration.

How about all the books like "C is for Cornhusker", etc. That whole series (and there are about a million now) is really good.

My favorite new ABC book is a pop-up book. It was tested on my kids and a whole kindergarten class :)

My favorite 2008 Alphabet book is also Marion Bataille's ABC3D, just as Pam previously mentioned. I'm not sure that public libraries will have a copy of it for checking out because it is so fragile, but the pop-up paper engineering is amazing for older children to enjoy along with the entire family.

Okay....just found a new alphabet book that I've never seen before....looks really interesting and I like the way it serves as an introduction to a different culture
D Is for Doufu: An Alphabet Book of Chinese Culture

One of my favorite ABC books is Old Black Fly by Jim Aylesworth. Old Black Fly buzzes all around the kitchen landing on everything from A to Z until "Splat and he won't be back no mo!"

D Is for Dragon Dance is an excellent and different alphabet book focusing on Chinese culture. Easy for kids to understand and expand their vocabulary (no more C is for cat and D is for dog!) as well as get to familiarize themselves with a new culture. Very colourful illustrations too.

A very colourful ABC board book is Miss Spider's Abc Book.

Besides M Is for Maple: A Canadian Alphabet, I have noticed that there are a number of "provincial" Canadian alphabet books available:

C is for Chinook: An Alberta Alphabet Edition 1.

B Is for Bluenose: A Nova Scotia Alphabet

G is for Golden Boy: A Manitoba Alphabet

S is for Spirit Bear : A British Columbia Alphabet

F is for Fiddlehead: A New Brunswick Alphabet

Very exciting news! :-) I will have to look for the BC one especially since I've visited a few times.

I hope to get some of these as Christmas presents for my nieces/nephews in Europe, especially the one from Ontario (where I live) and the one from Alberta (where my parents live). Personally, I am most interested in the New Brunswick and Nova Scotia ones, as I did my undergraduate studies in the Maritimes, and just loved both the people and the surroundings.
