Oh I'd love to be a beta reader! I'm also on Netgalley for ARC's but you can look at my bookshelf to get an idea of what I read if you'd like me to help :)
Sherri, I will be looking for an extra Beta reader or two (or possibly three) for the second book in my series, that is due out later in the year. Reading time Aug or Sept. Not sure if my work suits your tastes. But if so, are you interested? :) (I could give you a free copy of the first book when I release it next week to see if it's your cup of tea).
I wouldn't be offended if it isn't :) Georgina.

I'm always happy to read new things. As for what I'm willing to critique or discuss about the work, that depends on both the book in question & what the author wishes. As of now, I have plenty of spare time, so time frames shouldn't be a problem. :)
I'd love to Georgina!!! :D And thanks Jaq for the book! As soon as I can get my kindle hooked up to my computer I'll start reading it :]
Great! Will be in contact and I'll arrange a free copy of the first book (out this week) for you too.
:):) Gina (Georgina, but getting tired of writing out my full name :))

That would be great, Sherri! I'll P.M you my email address now.
Do you want the PDF file, so you can send it to your kindle already? I'll release it on Friday through KDP and Smashwords, if you'd rather it that way. But the PDF is all set to go now, I just won't have the time to upload it onto the sites until Friday.
:) Gina.

I could do the kindle way :D I'll send that email now and the email you gave me is what you'll send it from?
O.K You'll be using your Kindle Personal Document Service )(LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my kindle).
I'm cutting and pasting their original email to me:
"We noticed you recently used the Kindle Personal Document Service. The service now automatically archives personal documents in your Kindle library until you choose to delete them. You can always use Manage Your Kindle to see a list of your archived documents, re-deliver documents to your Kindle, delete any document from your archive, or turn off archiving for your account.
You can learn more about the Kindle Personal Document Service on our help pages.
Thank you for choosing Kindle,

It allows you to send any PDF doc to your kindle.
Go into send to my kindle, organise. Your kindle email address will be the first half of your email address, with the kindle.com at the end.
You put the word 'covert' in the subject line, then attach the PDF in the email.
It's great as a writer, as you can get the kindle's text to speech function, to read chapters back to you--therefore making your copy editor's job, at bit easier (thanks Tricia!!).
I'll send through the PDF now. But if you have any problems getting it onto your kindle I can send it through on Friday, when I release it.
:):) Delighted to have you on board! Hope you enjoy it. If it's not your cup of tea, I will not be offended. But it's Gothic Fantasy, with a liberal dose of Paranormal in it, so I suspect it might be up your alley! Plus I love my Lilith, so I might be based.
:) Gina

Hah! You've already done it :) Will send through now, Gina.
Tell me if it comes through o.k. I think there are two or three blank pages inserted (due to page returns--boy the formatting can be fiddly) that I will fix up before friday. Will send through cover for you as well, via your normal email address. :) Gina
Great! Cover on it's way too. :) Gina

Me too! My winged Demigods, Meng and Meabel. Can't wait! Will be getting stuck into the writing again on the weekend. Yay!!

Writers, make sure you outline what you want from a Beta reader. I think it's good to be able to provide a link to a sample, so that readers can see whether it's their cup of tea (or glass of beer). It might be better if potential Beta Readers don't have to contact you to look at this. That way if they don't think it's something they want to read, they don't have to risk offending you. If they do, then they can contact you for details.
Readers, make sure you tell the writer what you're willing to do. Make sure you know the time-frame in which they wish it to be read.
I have seven main Beta Readers. I don't ask them to copy edit for me but to pin-point the books weakness, anything that annoys them or distracts from the story. That sort of thing. I've found my Beta Readers to be invaluable.
Post away.
