If you for whatever reason didn't want to read or discuss The Goose Girl, but still want to discuss, post here!

Thanks :-)

Min (minbuchanan) Sorry, I wasn't sure were to put this. But I wanted to suggest a book to go in the hat for whenever... The Magician's Apprentice by Trudi Canavan. It doesn't come out until the end of February anyway. It's a prequel for her other series, The Black Magician Trilogy, first being The Magicians' Guild. But I don't believe you will need to have read the other books.

Ooh! I just got book 1 (I even looked around for the cover art that I liked--white with a black-cloaked magician). Thanks for the update.

Min (minbuchanan) Ah man! I had to get whatever Powell's had... which was some unfortunate 1980's looking fantasy cover that had zero to do with the story. That and I was positively embarrassed to take it around in public. ha ha.

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments I'm reading Skinned currently and am loving it. It's about a girl who lives in the future and the car malfunctions and she gets killed. Her father pays for her brain to be copied and transferred to a computerized body so that she can continue on with life. Unfortunately, no one can seem to stand to be around her anymore, her family, her boyfriend, and even her friends at school. She's a freak, a skinner, a weirdo now. Even she can't completely think of herself as human anymore. I have 100 pages left and I'm just loving it. Nothing like some futuristic sci-fi to spice up a YA novel.

message 6: by Min (new)

Min (minbuchanan) You know, I'm not usually into sci-fi books. But this sounds really interesting. Have you read The Hunger Games? I just finished it and LOVED it. Even though, kind of like how this book sounds, the topic was a bit repulsive - ethically speaking.

message 7: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments Yes! I really really loved that book. There's a sequel coming out in September called Catching Fire. I'm not usually a sci-fi girl myself but I really am digging Skinnedand I absolutely loved The Hunger Games when I read it.

message 8: by Min (new)

Min (minbuchanan) Oh I know! I can hardly wait for the next book. I'm still totally on the fence as to if I want Peeta or Gale to be the love interest. : ) But I hope they end up taking the Capitol down.

message 9: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments I'm just not sure what to expect. The games are over, yknow. So I wonder where she is going to take it from here... Gah! I know I have a million other books to read before that one comes out, but I want to know now... That's why I was a little mad when I heard there was a sequel, I was like.. but but... That's what I get for reading "NEW" books. Bah.

message 10: by Min (new)

Min (minbuchanan) I agree. In general I'm not hip enough to have picked up on a "hot" new series. So I tend to read them after they've all come out. Even with the Study books, I found one, and the rest were already out. I didn't have to wait. I hate waiting. I have about four other series I'm waiting for this year. Good grief. It's like I'm filling up my book "dance card" a year in advance.

message 11: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments That's like when I started reading Kim Harrison's series. It had like 4 or 5 books out already and then I got caught up and was mad because I had to WAIT! I think I have close to 400 books on my to-read list right now. Ridiculous. Have you read the Mortal Instruments series? The first one is City of Bones. The third finally comes out in March I think...

message 12: by Min (new)

Min (minbuchanan) Yes! I loved those books too! I am re-reading them to get caught up again. I tend to buy books and then either keep them to lend out or sell them back to the bookstore. I need to round up the last two from friends. I really, really hope that they are not brother and sister. Not so much because I am super attached to them being together, but because they made out... and well, just the idea... yeah, they shouldn't be brother and sister.

message 13: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments Haha. I know what you mean. I loved the physical attraction between them and then went "yuck" when I found out the possibility of them being brother and sister. But that does give her guy friend.. can't remember his name ... from her old life another chance at her. Even though I haven't really been that fond of him.

message 14: by Min (new)

Min (minbuchanan) Plus they did try to be together and he dumped her because he knew she was still in love with her brother. (insert crying game shower scene here) Ugh. I think her friend became a vampire or something. See, I need to go re-read. : )

message 15: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments Me too! Bah.. looks like I need to push through my other books so I can re-read for series books coming out. I couldn't even remember the dumping thing.. bah! That's what I get for reading too many books all the time.

message 16: by Meme (new)

Meme (mstylp) | 519 comments I also would like to put some books in the hat for possible discussions

Furies of Calderon by Jim Butcher

Cast in Shadow by Michelle Sagara and

The Naming by Alison Croggon

message 17: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments Oooh Jim Butcher. I've only read his first Dresdan novel, but I really enjoyed it.

message 18: by Meme (new)

Meme (mstylp) | 519 comments You should check out his Codex Alera series they are really good, Furies of Calderon in the first and there are 5 books out so far and still more to come.

message 19: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments I will add that to my to-read list! I've heard of that series, but I've never looked into it.
