The Not-So Austen Bookclub discussion

I love listening to music whilst I read. Whilst I do work. Whilst I type on the computer. Whilst I do ANYTHING, there is always a faint tune hanging in the air or resonating through my earphones. So I am here to promote my belief that...

MUSIC + BOOKS = MAGIC

And to do this, I am taking any requests, for any series (as long as I have read/heard/get the gist of it) and I will turn them into playlists. Feel free to post up your own and share them with others. Suggestions can be posted here or you can post them as comments on my blog.

I do listen to music occasionally while reading or writing, however in my case it is limited to instrumental music. For those like me, I suggest, An Evening with John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess.

The last few books I read were 'The Iron Fey' series. Of the best I EVER read. And u r totally right, music + reading = an unforgettable experience.

*I used to listen to these songs while reading:
Westlife's:
- Us against the world (For Iron Daughter, you'll cry ur eyes out!)
- Safe.
- You Raise me Up.

And for 'The Hunger Games':
- Deep Shadows (trailer soundtrack)
- Safe & Sound Taylor Swift.

Each and every book has it's special mood & song :))

Us against the world is SO GOOD for the Iron Fey series!!!:D Great pick and I totally agree with you that each book has its special mood and song. Sometimes I'll hear a song and think - Oh my gosh this reminds me of ________!

Another Hunger Games song you'll love - for Peeta and Katniss - is Painting Flowers by All Time Low. It describes Peeta's perspective perfectly, not to mention he paints, lol!!!

Oh - another song, more modern and up-beat, that reminds me about Meghan's side is Everywhere by Michelle Branch especially that part that says:

"I recognize the way you make me feel
It's hard to think that
You might not be real
I sense it now, the water's getting deep
I try to wash the pain away from me
Away from me."

and

"Just tell me how I got this far
Just tell me why you're here and who you are

It totally sums up their relationship during the first two books!!

If you like Will + Tessa, a really good song is Not Alone by RED. And Safe and Sound is simply perfect for HG. The lyrics are beautiful!

has anyone listened to the full version of deep shadows from the hunger games trailer. Very good orchestra music. You can find it on youtube

I think this song is per-fect, not only for the lyrics, but because Michele in the book (Michele and Michelle - they must be twins!) is a songwriter, and this sounds like the kinda thing she'd write about Philip: "And when I wake you're, you're never there/But when I sleep you're, you're everywhere."

when i read deerskin by robin mckinley i was blown away by how well it matched "winter" by tori amos. it was creepy, in a way. :O

I really am enjoying Katy Perry's new album 'Prism'.

I love the song 'Legendary Lovers' & 'Dark Horse'.

'Dark Horse' is perfect for fantasy novels. And 'Legendary Lovers' is perfect for romantic/tragedy sort of novels.

I love 'Stand My Ground' by Within Temptation. It's the perfect theme song for so many strong heroines :)

Patient love by Passenger -- brings to mind Stephanie Meyer's novel Eclipse

Lyrics are reminiscent of the tug-of-war internal battle that Bella faces between Ed and Jake. *the love triangle thing again_

I envision the song as something connected to Jake and his actions/ feelings :( so sad.
