Hair is flying around my face as I spiral up through the water. The splashing is refreshing after the long day at work. I go back underwater. There is my friend DC. He's using his shovel to make a hole in the water. I'm helping him make a pit to store the treasures we found along the coast of the Ocean Realm. As he digs furiously, my gaze falls on the realm behind the glass surrounding our ocean. It's the Sky Clouds. One of my other friends, Melody, is whizzing away on her Cloud Board among the artificial trees.
I wish she was here with me.
I run through the clouds. "CAN'T GET ME LUPA," I call out. I saw her black hair in a braid hiding in a fluff of the cloud. I sneak over it and yank it. "I told you you couldn't get me," I say. She jumps out and tackles me to the ground. "Says who," she says. I frown. "Hey," I say. We sit up. "We're acting like 6 year old," Lupa said. Her cheeks are all red from laughing so hard. I smile and look around. "Hey, where's Phineas," I said. I try to find the red headed boy but I just don't see him. "He's in training Baka," she said. I glared at her in her dark brown eyes. "Have you been visiting Japan again," I say. Lupa looks up. "Maybe," she says. We both burst out laughing.
Jaqueline gazed out the window of her room. There was a slight breeze that rustled her short black hair and the clouds matched her storm gray eyes. She wore a gray t-shirt and sweat pants. Reaching behind her, she pulled her hair back into a small ponytail and jumped out the window. The air welcomed her and soon she was flying through the air. She turned on her back, tucked her arms behind her head, and sighed contentedly. Her birthday was in three days and her sister was going crazy. She insisted on bringing some birds into the house and her poor puffball (Nathan) was scared half to death. Jaqueline considered flying back home, but tossed the idea out of her mind and continued to soar through the clouds.
"Hey, Jacky, wait up!" someone called.
She turned around, "Hey Bri!"
Her blonde friend landed lightly on a nearby cloud, "So are you excited or what!? You're finally turning sixteen!"
"I would be, but Yaz is making a huge deal out of it," she sighed.
"Of course,l Bri rolled her violet eyes, "Your sister is insane."
Jacky laughed, "I think we all established that a LONG time ago."
"Jacky! Jacky!" a high voice called.
"Speaking of..." she trailed off and hid behind a poofy white cloud.
"Jacky! What kind of cake do you want?" her sister bellowed, "Hello?"
Bri sank beside her and they both stiffled giggles, "Three...two...one....ROAR!" they yelled jumping out.
The little girl shrieked, "Eep! You guys!"
They began laughing widly, "Gotcha!"
"Jacky! I need to talk to you!" the small girl grumped.
"Fine, shoot," Jacky relented preparing for an hour long rant about cakes.
We hear the running about a mile before he comes to us. "HEY YOU TWO," he calls out. I look back. "Oh hi Phineas," I say. He sat down. His red hair is all ruffled up like feathers. He wears a shirt as yellow as the sun and pants almost as white as the cloud we're sitting on. "Phineas if you want to scare Kit one day, you've gotta shut up," Lupa says. Phineas smiles at me. "I'm not tryingto scare her," he says. I blush slightly but roll my eyes. "You're an idiot sometimes," I say. We all burt out laughing.
I turn back to DC, who's pale with effort. I stick my own shovel in the sand at the bottom of the ocean. It thuds dully. I begin grinding the sand and dumping it nearby in a crazy frenzy. Within ten minutes, we have a five-foot deep hole and I have sore muscles. DC nods admirably. We begin tossing in the things that we've treasured over the years. Pearls from my mom's necklace. DC's silver sword. My ragged silk scarf, the color of melting gold. The vine rope my brother made for me before we separated on Talent Day. A bunch of gems me and DC found while playing Pirates. And finally, a small crystal orb Melody had fashioned from baby snowflakes before she was left to the Sky Realm.
DC kneels down and swipes the sand back over the hole, patting it until it looks like the rest of the sand. I lower down to the concealed pit and draw a triangle on it's surface. In one corner, DC scrawls his initials. I trace the word "Ace" in another corner. On the topmost corner, we draw a heart, together.
" DC, I'm going to miss you."
" You too, Ace." We do our handshake, the one we made up ten years ago. When we were six years old, and innocent with curiosity.
Now, the curiosity would be the cause of our difficult futures.
I hear some of the other boys run our direction. Lupa standds up and swipes her bangs to the side in a fail attempt to get the boys' attentions. Me and Phineas start to laugh. How'd I became friends with Lupa was the usual way most friends become friends. We met up, found out we both loved to Cloud Board and became friends...little did I know she was so girly. I get surrounded by the boys. "KIT! COME CLOUD BOARD! I BET I CAN BEAT YOU," they say. I moan and look at a frustrated Lupa. "How about you guys Cloud Board with Lupa! She's really amazing you know," I beg. They look at me. "But you're the best," they say. Lupa shrugges. "Yeah Kit, you're the best," she says. I frown. "You know guys, Lupa isn't feeling good and I want to stay with her," I say. Lupa looks at me. "Just go, they won't leave until you do," she says. I sigh and pull out a metal triangle. I flick it and it folds out lika a fan. I stand on top of it. "I'll be back soon," I say as I wave. Lupa and Phineas both wave at me. I look at all fifteen of the boys. "Ready, Set, Go," I say. I lean forward and let my wings spread out. They're invisable though. You see I'm the only one in my little clan of people who can fly. They'd ban me if they knew about the wings. I'm in the lead of the race, like usual.
After she finishes her rant and leaves, Jacky rushed off to see if she could find Zir. She found him, gazing down at the Ocean realm and sighing."What are you doing?" she asked smugly, "Spying on the mermaids?"
He ggasped, "Jacky! Gaul you just don scared the tarnations outta me!"
She rolled her eyes, "Oh good grief. Quit talking like that and watching old wetrern movies."
He stuck his thumbs in his belt loops and pretended to be chewing on something, "Howdy there pretty. Wanna com'n swing?"
She laughed, "You're such a dork."
He smiled, "So what's up?"
She sat down on a nearby cloud, "Yaz is freaking out."
"Oh yeah, you turn sixteen in three days, huh?"
"Yeah. Poor Nathan's probably hiding under the couch."
Zir laughed and ran his fingers through his black curly hair, "Nice."
She crossed her legs and leaned back, "I guess. Hey do you wanna come hang out at my place? I'll lock the door so my sister can't bother us."
He grinned, "Sure."
"Race ya!" she exclaimed jumping off the cloud and soaring through the skies again. Zir soon caught up to her, but then she took off faster and they laughed the whole way home.
I see the goal. Its just a few feet infront of me. I lean further. I start going faster. I look behind me, the closest one to me is about two yards off. I start going faster. I cross the finish line. I get off my board. My wings fold back in. The boys finally start to cross the finihs line. "Good job Kit," they say. I look at them. "I'm going to go back to Lupa. You guys should go apoligize to her," I say. They look at me confused. "Why should we apoligize to her," they ask stupidly. "Because you all ignore her! She wants you guys to notice her so she can have a boy friend," I admit to them. They burst out laughing. "She wants one of us to date her," one with blonde hair say. I kick cloud dust in their face and jump back onto the board. My wings spread out, still invisable, and I fly off. "Stupid idiots," I muttered. I soon am with my friends. "Lupa, those boys aren't worth your time," I say angerly. "Kit, you're not looking yourself," Phineas says. I kick cloud dust at him too. "So! No one says anything bad about my friends," I snap. There's another thing about me...I have a short temper. Lupa looks at me. "What did they say," she asks. I tell her about what happened. She glares at me. "YOU TOLD THEM," she says. I shrug. "Yeah, I wanted you tp feel better. I'm always the center of attention," I say. She smiles and hugs me. "YOU DO HAVE A HEART," she cries out. I try to get out of her grasp but I can't. I sigh. "I guess..." I mutter. Phineas just sits there laughing. I glare at him. "Don't make me kick more cloud in your face," I say. "Go a head Kit Cloudkicker," he says. I stick my tongue out. "Baka," I say.
We go separate ways. I head for the Sky Clouds Realm. DC swims toward the Volcanic Island. I turn back around. I can't let DC become distracted. We have to warn our friends. I recall the shock that electrified my heart when I found out that Zarcoi, the leader of the Realm Commando, was planning to overthrow us. We didn't know why. But we knew that all those families in all those realms were unaware of the danger we all were in.
Dazed, I unlatched the glass door that led to a tunnel that led to the center of the Sky Clouds realm. Was I really going to do this? My head was blurred with memories.
I slid into the tunnel before anyone from the Ocean Realm could see me. I crawled down the smoothly carved stone. And when I came out into the sunshine, a flood of triangular boards whizzed over my head. I looked up. There was around fifteen guys, and one girl, in the lead. I combed my fingers through my dark brown hair, hoping my tight nylon swimsuit and shorts didn't stand out in their realm.
The girl reached the end way before the guys. But she seemed disgruntled. She told the boys something. They didn't answer. She says something else. Someone responds. When she tells him something, all the boys laugh. Indignantly, she stalks off.
Now she's arguing with a redhead boy and a girl. She kicks up a cloud of dust in frustration.
I keep walking, wondering where Melody is.
Lupa's eyes go wide. "WOW LOOK AT HER," Lupa says pointing at a girl who totally stood out. I sigh. "I don't know, just ignore her," I say. Lupa laughes. "How can I ignore," she says. hit her upside the head. "Shut up and be nice," I say. Phineas smiles. "Yeah Lupa, be nice," he says. I blush. "Not helping, Phineas," I say. He bursts out laughing. I moan. "Why am I friends with a bunch of idiots," I mumble. Phineas sticks his toungue at me. "I'm not an idiot," he says. I smack his upisde the head also. I start heading towards the girl.
As Payton zips through the chill tundra she spots a penguin egg ashore. It wasn't broken, but it wasn't exactly ok. She quickly snatches it up and heads off again. As she enters her igloo again, she places the egg under an ice powered lamp. As she pours in a bucket of ice, she hears the door open. "Hey Haley, hunt any new seals?" Payton said. She started chopping up some carrots and pulled a meat slab out of the fridge marked "Seal."
Phineas looks at Lupa. "She's kinda cute when she's grumpy," he says. Lupa laughes. "So has she shone interest yet," she asks. Phineas smiles. "You tell me," he says. Lupa shakes her head. "Not that I know of," she says. Phineas frowns. "That's too bad...I really like her. She's different," he says. Lupa smiled. "Hey I'm different too," she says. Phineas shakes his head. "Not that type of different," he says. Lupa frowns. "Is it because she's the fastes person here," Lupa scowles. Phineas laughes. "No, but it seems like there's a part of her we don't know," he said. Lupa sighs. "Her secret to how she's so fast," she askes. "No like...something she doesn't want us to know," Phineas says. Lupa sighs. "You are such a romantist," she mutteres. Phineas looks at her. "Says the girl who keeps acting stupid for the boys that obviusly don't like you," he says. Lupa chucks cloud dust at hi. "SHUT UP," she yells.
Kenzie cocked her feathered head to one side. Interesting, she thought. The conversation she had just heard made it sound like her mother would be in the Ocean Realm...She took off and flew to the sea, which wasn't very far. Checking to make sure no one was watching, she changed shape, dropping into the water as a dolphin.
I notice the girl doesn't notice me. I shrug and go back towards Phineas and Lupa. "No response," Lupa laughs. I smile. "You know me, I don't stay in one place for long," I say. I start walking one direction. "You two coming," I say. Phineas stands up and runs after me. "Yeah, we're coming," he says. We start walking down the path. Lupa giggles at Phineas. "You know, I'm reading this story about this boy who keeps trying to get the girl to like him, but the girl doesn't notice," she says. Phineas blushes. "Well, the boy's either not taking the hint that he's not good enough for her or he's not trying hard enough," I say. Lupa nudges Phineas in the side. "You hear that," she says. Phineas hits her. "OW," Lupa squeals. I turn around. "Quit flirtling you two," I say.
She had been a dolphin only once before, and she hadn't liked it very much. She didn't like it any better this time. She looked around for someone she could ask, but no one was around. That's odd, she thought. Normally this part of the ocean was busy and alive with fish, mermaids, and other sea dwellers. Swimming down to the ocean floor, she listened hard for any noise, anything at all. Nothing.
She swam for hours, but couldn't find anything, or anyone. Her tail was starting to hurt. All I really want is to be a bird again, she thought. A light caught her eye, and swimming toward it, she found it was the door to the Sky Clouds Realm. Have I really swam all that way? she wondered.
She really did need a break. Quickly, she morphed back to a human, holding her breath as she opened the door. The second she had shut it behind her, she was a bird, a falcon. Oh, that was better.
Kenzie launched herself into the air, reveling in the wind blowing through her feathers. Using her sharp eyesight, she surveyed everything below her. She saw three people, about her age, walking together. Normally, she would have ignored them, but one of them was different. Kenzie couldn't place it, but she could sense something about this girl. She swooped in for a closer look.
I see a bird flying our direction. Phineas speaks up. "WOW! LOOK AT THE WINGS ON THAT THING," he says. Lupa laughes. "Phineas, they're wings," she says. I glare at her. "Hey, just because it has wings doesn't mean its an outcast," I say. "Why have you been so grumpy," Lupa spats. I glare at her and hold out my arm to the bird. "Hey, it's okay," I whisper. I feel free and I really want to fly with the bird, but I try my hardest to keep my wings from spreading.
She flew in through the window and sat down on her bed, "So watcha wanna do?"Before he could reply a pure white puffball jumped on top of her, "EEEEHHH!!!"
"AAH! Nathan!" she squealed, "Stop! That tickles!"
She managed to pull it off, "Um...let's just try and avoid Yaz."
She grinned, "Sounds good. Hey, wanna go see if anybody's cloud boarding?"
"Sure, but I thought we were hanging out here," he said wickedly.
She stuck her tongue out at him, "Whatever. Let's go."
They flew out the window again and soon saw a group of people cloud boarding. They hid behind a cloud and watched as one of the girls raced ahead of the others.
"I've heard of her," Zir whispered, "Her name's Kit and apparently she's the best cloud boarder ever."
She rolled her eyes, "I don't care, quit boring me with your nerdiness, and watch!"
"Hey, it's okay," the girl whispered. On an impulse, Kenzie landed on the girl's outstretched arm, hoping her talons didn't hurt too much.
I smile as the falcom lands on my arm. The bird's talons hurt a little but I ignore the pain. What I'm mainly focusing on is my wings. They cna't pread out, they just can't spread out. "Hey there," I say, "You're such a pretty bird. A magestic bird too!" I hear Lupa giggle behind me. I roll my eyes. "Ignore her, she doesn't really like creatures with wings," I whisper to the bird. That means she'll hate me once she finds out...IF she finds out, I think to myself. The feeling of freedom becomes greater and greater. I shake my head. I'm so childish, I think some more. The laughing stops. "Shut up Lupa," Phineas says. I smile.
Kenzie turned her head to look at the boy and girl. Apparently, the girl, Lupa, didn't like creatures with wings. How could she not? The boy seemed nice though. And the girl she was sitting on. Kenzie could sense something in this girl-a yearning to be something more. If she yearned so, why didn't she do whatever it was?
After the race was over, Jacky got a little bored, "What're we going to do now?"He shrugged, "Don't ask me. I'm not good at this stuff."
"JJJJAAAAAACCCCCKKKKKKYYYYY!!!!!!" an annoying voice called out.
"Oh crap! HELP!!!" she yelled as Yaz attacked her and they toppled over the cloud, right into the middle of a bunch of people.
I look at Phineas. "Hey, Phineas come say hi to the bird," I say. "IT'S AN ANIMAL! WITH WINGS! WHY WOULD IT UNDERSTAND YOU," Lupa says. Phineas shoots a mad look at Lupa and she shuts up. Phineas walkes over. "Hey, you have a giant wing span around here," he says. I smile slightly. Phineas is a nerd...but that kinda makes him cute. Phineas scratches the falcon under the chin. "You're so sweet," he mutters. I smile. Lupa walkes over. "OH LOOK THERE'S THOSE BOYS," she say. She startes running and waves by to me and Phineas. I sigh. "Good she's gone," I say. I smile a little more "What're you thinking about," Phineas askes. I blush. "N-nothing," I lie. Inside I'm begging to go fly with this bird...with my wings...no cloud board. I look at Phineas. "Hey have you been practicing your Cloud Boarding," I ask. Phineas really sucks at Cloud Boarding...he says its for the popular people...not nerds. He blushes. "No," he mutteres. I look at the bird. "Can I help my friend. You don't have to leave," I say.
"You don't have to leave."the words echoed in her head, an impossible mantra. You don't have to leave. You can stay. We want you to stay and not leave and-
NO! Never again! Quickly, she launched herself upward to fly far far away and never come back.
She'd managed to stop herself from falling and watched in fascination as a hawk flew away. The girl, Kit, seemed a little disapointed, but she didn't really care, and started to fly away."JACKY!!! COME BACK!!!" Yaz yelled.
"AW CHIZ!" she exclaimed as her sister rammed into her side, "YAZ!!! KNOCK IT OFF!!!"
She started fighting to get her sister off of her, "JACKY!!1 LISTEN TO ME!"
"ZIR A LITTLE HELP!?"
He just laughed, "No way, this is entertaining!"
"HELP ME NOW!" she shouted.
I look up at it sadly. I smile slightly and turn to Phineas. "Okay, ready to practice," I ask. He pulls out a metal board. "Okay," I say. I jump onto mine and Phineas jumps onto his. He's a little wobly at first, but I help him figure it out. Soon we're gliding through the clouds.
"YAZ GET THE CLOUD OFF OF ME!!!!" she yelled."Jacky!" Yaz exclaimed appalled, "You said a bad word!"
"Then get off me!" she snapped.
She sat up, "There."
Zir flew down and she glared at him, "Thanks for your help!"
He laughed, "You're welcome!"
She stuck her tongue out and then turned back to Yaz, "What is so important that you had to tackle me?"
"What kind of ice cream do you want."
*face palm*
(XD)
I notice Phineas having issues with his board. I grab his arm. "Steady," I whisper. He looked at me and smiles. "Thanks," he says. "FOCUS," I demand. I'm great on the cloud board without my wings, but with my wings, I'm pro. I let them spread out. They're invisable...like usual. I start to spead up. "WOAH," Phineas cried out. I feel him fall off his board. Ilift him up onto my board. He grabs onto me. "Wow, so this how it feels to be in the lead," he whispered. You don't know the half of it, I think. The feeling of being free, the feeling of my wings spread out, the feel of the clouds touching my wings. "Yep," I lie. He looks at me. "Why are you different from the other girls," he askes. I blush. "Because, I don't freak out over boys," I guess. "No...its more internal...like you're hiding something," he says. I roll my eyes. "Everyone has a secret Phineas," I say. He blushes. "Sorry," he mutteres. I laugh. "Hey it's fine," I say. I see people looking at us and hear people whisper. Let them think we're dating, I think. Phineas looks back and his eyes go wide. "Kit, you...you have," he starts. I stop and realize my wings are visable and that's what everyone was looking at and talking about. Lupa runs towards me. "YOU HAVE WINGS," she cries out. I blush. "BANISH HER FROM THIS CLAN!" "SHE'S A FREAK!" were just some of the things I heard people cry out. I feel tears stream down my face. Phineas looks at me. "Kit, are you-" he starts but I run off before I hear the rest of it.

(OMS WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN????!!!!!!!!!!!!!)"SERIOUSLY!" she snapped.
Yaz's lower lip trembled, "Why do you have to yell at me!? I want mom!" she began to cry and flew off.
She sighed, "I'll see ya tomorrow. I've gotta go talk to my sister."
He was already flying away, "See ya!"
She sped up to catch up with her sister, "Yaz? Yaz! Where are you?"
"Don't move or the girl gets it," a bandit said, holding a knife up to Yaz's throat.
I walk around in silence. I hear screaming and see a man holding tightly to a little girl. Another girl stands a small distance away from the other two. I can tell this isn't a good moment. I grab my cload board. My wings spread out and I fly towards them. I flick my wrist and the metal triangle fans out. "HEY CREEP," I call out. He looks over in time to get hit in the face by the board. I land on the ground and grab the little girl. I rush over to the other girl. "Come with me," I say.
That Kit girl was standing there, she told Jacky to come with her, and since she had Yaz, she relented, and followed her."Th-thank you," she managed.
I smile. "No problem," I say. I suddenly remember that I left my Cloud Board with the man. "Take her, I'll be back. I've gotta get something," I say as I fly off. I fly back and grab the Cloud Board and jump on it. I arrive back. I look at them while I'm still on the board. I hold out my hand. "Here, get on. I'll take you back home," I say with a smile.
Yaz was extremely shy around strangers, so she had to pick her up, and force her onto the board, "Thanks," Jacky mattered, "We're just around the corner."
I watched all this drama from behind a huge maple tree. When the bandit had come, my breath had been ragged, but as all those girls had settled the matter, I was now trying to figure out what to do.I already missed DC, because he always had a plan. He was clever. And ever since Trista had left for Volcanic Island, I only had DC to share secrets with.
A little disheartened, I peeked out from behind the tree. There was a few girls chattering about things I couldn't hear completely. But the one girl I had seen before on that weird metal board- the same girl that had sprouted wings to everyone's shock- was clearly embarassed.
Considering this was the Sky Clouds Realm, I wondered why the girl's wings stunned everyone.
Then I remembered Conduct Code 08:
Long ago, semihuman animals were allowed to roam the realms pertaining to their genetic traits. But that became dangerous for the humans. So the realm Humainoid Creatures was built to serve their various purposes. If a humainoid creature escapes their realm, they are forced to a Righting.
My mouth had fell open. The girl was about to get a Righting, and if her crime was extreme enough, she could get killed.
In that moment, I knew how I'd leave the Sky Cloud Realm. I would take the girl back to Humanoid Creatures Realm.
I help her up onto the board. "Here, hold on tightly to me," I say as I speed off. With in minutes I arrive at their house. I help them off. I just stay there. I feel someone grab me. "You're coming with us," the person says. I try to get free but I can't. "HELP," I cry out. The man and his friend? No partner...no, it can't be them can it. Well anyways they tye up my hands and my wings. My freedom...my...my connection to the clouds. I see my board. I reach it with my foot and flip it so it hits one in the face. I hop up onto it and start speeding away.
"No, wait!" I yell. I've followed the girl to the house of two of the girls, Yaz and Jacky. But she's afraid of me. And when I try to hold on, she uses her board to hit my face, leaving it stinging. This Humanoid Creature is alot tougher then I thought.
I finally stop and hide n the clouds. I untie my hands and untie my wings. My wings fold back into my back. I try not to scream in fright.
"Yaz, get inside," Jacky comamnded."B-but Jacky-" she started.
"Get inside!" she yelled.
Yaz obeyed and entered the house. Jacky flew up into the clouds, looking for the girl that had helped them, and saved Yaz's life.
Suddenly, from the house, the girl with cropped black hair emerges, her eyes stern with worry. I focus my gaze on her. She's wearing cotton sweats. Only now do I realize I'm half shivering."KIT! CAN YOU HEAR ME?" She screams into the dusk. "COME BACK! RUN!" Her voice begins to shake. "Kit, I'm so sorry...whoever hurt you is going to pay for it.."
And then she sees me, and her breath freezes in a puff of chilly air. But it's not as chilly as my heartbeat.
I look out from the cloud and walk out. I try not to show any sigh of fright. I pull out the Cloud Board and fly off. "I gotta get outta here," I whisper.
Phineas runs down path and crashes into a girl with short black hair. He looks at her. "Oops sorry," he muttered, "I'm looking for my friend Kit." His red hair flies into his brown eyes. He blushes. "She kinda...flew...off from us and I'm worried about her," he said.

She wheeled higher and higher into the sky, glad that she could not cry while in this form. To have something like a home be so close...Suddenly, a form sped beneath her. She realized it was Kit. Where was she going so fast? Then Kenzie saw her face, tears streaming down her cheeks and eyes wide in fear. She had to help.
She swooped down to fly level with Kit, trying to get her attention.
Want to what? she wondered. I can't beleive I'm going to do this, she thought. She slowed slightly to fly directly behind Kit. Centering herself over the board, Kenzie changed into Human form, landing lightly on the board.
My eyes go wide. :WHO ARE YOU," I exclaim. I stumble backwards. "Get off my board," I say sternly, but soften up once I realize it's the falcom. "Who are you," I ask again, but nicer this time.
"I am Kenzie, and please don't tell anyone what I can do. I don't think it would be good if...anyone found out." Then she looked down and realized how high she was. Normally heights didn't bother her, but this time she had no wings, only a thin peice of metal between her and the ground. She grabbed Kit without thinking, willing herself not to fall.
