I was at Armageddon in Hamilton last weekend & sat through the Almighty Johnson's discussion panel. Most questions were asked by a starstruck girl fan but there were a few good questions. One of the co-writers held a notebook & took down interesting ideas for upcoming shows. I haven't really watched it. Is it any good?
It's amazing. Grubby, and I don't know what it's doing on at 8.30 - far too early in my opinion, but it's funny and good, and totally off the wall. And has Tim Balme, which is just about all the excuse I need.
The Auckland Library is your friend. I know they have season 1 cos I borrowed it last year! And they have started renting tv series for 4 weeks for $5 if I recall correctly!!
Good ol' Wikipedia filled me in on who/what the Almighty Johnson's are/were! Sounds and looks like a good show.
What is everyone enjoying on TV at the moment? the only shows I was watching - Australian show "OffSpring" which was a really quirky grown up watch on Sunday nights and "The Walking Dead" on Wed - have both finished. I dont watch a lot of TV but like to have one or 2 shows a week to tune in for....anyone got any suggestions of some good ones?

The season 3 finale is airing in the States today & of course NZ are a few weeks behind

I LOVE Dexter and am waiting anxiously for the next season. I've also just started watching the new NZ show 'Hounds' - mainly because I own an ex-racing greyhound :) It is quirky and a little bit awkward at times, but I'm enjoying it so far!
Anyone watching NZ's got talent? Amazing.
I think #nzgt is crack up! NZ is so laid back when people don't get through its "oh, sweet as". We need more scandal, the yelling and crying is what makes it funny. We have some pretty talented people tho. It's a shame NZ isn't really big on opera singing too. Because what can we really offer the ones they are putting through.
Funny you brought up this old thread Kathleen - I was on Campbell Live tonight. Just one of the protesters about the absolutely insane idea of putting a crematorium in our town centre - in the heritage part of Thames!
As far as TV goes I am reality tved out! So I don't watch much. Just the news, Campbell Live (sometimes) & quiz show The Chaser. When the Grand Slams are on I watch a bit of tennis.

Me too! If I was in the UK I would audition to go on. I used to like Eggheads as well, but I think it's finished now.
I forgot to say - I enjoyed the first 2 parts of "Cilla." Missed the third unfortunately.

I have a working TV Kathleen and I would have gladly given it to you until last night when I discovered a remake of Poldark was beginning on Prime last night. Until then I've not regularly watched any telly other than the news for ages. It's all Woman's Weekly in moving pictures. Even the news is getting a bit that way - sensationalist journalism ugh! Although, thinking about it, I have watched a couple of good docos on Maori TV recently, but that's only about 3 hours a month of tv watching.Anyone else watch Poldark, and anyone else seen and remember the original Poldark from the mid 1970s? If so thoughts?

I didn't see the original although I do remember it. I might give the remake a try. What night is it on EG?
Tried to watch "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner last night. I used to enjoy it but it has lost its charm. Left to me, we'd give up Sky

I loved the original series, I don't have tv now but i would check out on demand to see a remake of that
I can still hum the theme music from the '70's. Mmmm mmmMmm

Poldark is on 8:30pm Wednesday nights on Prime.
Sky still stays for the sport and history channels for me. Occasionally there will be something new (or not in living memory) on UKTV channel but very rarely now. Used to be good, but like all TV, including free to air, it's reality shows or replays of trash. Even the news is becoming more like reality tv shows. (grumble, grumble). JUST AS WELL I HAVE MY BOOKS!

It is showing on Prime Dorothy. The characters are pretty true so far - just one episode - but I have to confess I prefer the original Demelza. She managed the soft Cornish burr better. I read where the original Ross is 74 years old now - that's scary when you realise how long ago
I'm not a big one for TV myself actually. NZ programming seems to get worse and worse. Masterchef is probably the only thing my partner and I bother watching, and then we usually opt for TV on Demand rather than watching it when it airs.I think I prefer downloading entire series of shows and watching them at my own leisure. I have been watching the second season of 'Helix' when I have time. Love a bit of SciFi :) I've recently finished the first season of "Dominion" which I really enjoyed.
Maori TV has really thought provoking documentaries and the best foreign films.I am a sucker for good detective stuff like Morse was.
Otherwise the TV is switched to DVD and I am busy watching a whole lot of research DVDs.

No :/
I fell asleep during the Australian version of The Chase & again during Border Security (or Patrol)
& we gave up Sky as it seemed a lot of money for Grand Slam tennis & my husband to watch one game of rugby a week.

Just watched the DVD of 'The Imitation Game'. That was better than anything the TV offered. Good story, faction with a tight script and excellent acting. Touch of'The King's Speech ' I thought.
Aaaarrrgghh, only just found out that Prime is showing the tennis highlights!
& last night tuned in to Prime to find they had a doco on David Bowie. Hope it's repeated as I only saw the second half.

Never knew what to make of Bowie until I saw Labyrinth. Then I got what he was exploring with his music.
I seem to just stack series up on the mysky and then watch them after the season has finished. And mostly trash or decades old to boot.
Just discovered they've made a third season of A Place to Call Home - an aussie historical drama I love. They had previously announced that the second season would be it's last but they re-did the ending of season 2 and have continued. I'm so glad!
Are they? The acting was so good in A Place To Call Home I was amazed and actually managed to watch quite a bit but it was very late night viewing.Perhaps I'll go for the DVD.
It's set in the1950s, for those interested, and all about the rapid changes in Oz society. Done really well and with delightful characters to love and hate.
The last of the Two Ronnies, Ronnie Corbett, died yesterday. They were the only ones whose sketches could make me really chortle, and still do when watching the re-runs on the Jones channel. I really liked their fork handles sketch, and thought Ronnie Corbett's Mastermind was particularly clever.

I very rarely found Ronnie C funny on his own (hated his monologues sitting in a chair) but together he & Ronnie B were brilliant.

Aren't we all different? I loved many of the monologues. It's like the Goons, it's either love or hate!

& the Pink Panther movies. I would sit stoney faced while my husband literally rolled around on the floor, crying with laughter. & yet normally I love British humour!

Yep, and I had exactly the same reaction to Monty Python's Flying Circus!

They were hit & miss for me. Certain sketches still make me smile.

Anyone got tapes/CDs of 'Round the Horne' and 'Beyond Our Ken'?Without those writers we would never have had the revolution in humour and comedy. Black Adder would never have been written. And we would have lost Alan Bennett and a host of other writers who started off with 'Beyond The Fringe'.

No but I do have a DVD of the first series of Dad's Army. Comic genius.
I remember my late father hated the idea of the programme as it sounded like it would be disrespectful to the real life Home Guard, but he ended up loving it.

My revolting father in law was too old for the army during WWII, He'd done more than his bit in WWI. Anyway he was one of the firefighter guardians of St Paul's cathedral. And when he saw a few episodes of Dad's Army he said that that wasn't the half of it and he had some hilarious tales of roof top scrambles and falling through windows. In fact his tales would never have been believed if they'd been an episode of Dad's Army.
The Keira Knightley version of Pride & Prejudice is on Maori TV tonight. I've heard it's dire, but I'm going to give it a go anyway.

& dire it was. Weird costumes & Knightley's Lizzie behaved much like Lydia & Kitty. The actor playing Mr Collins was good though. I switched off after Mr Collin's proposal.

I am still watching, but finding it hard to keep the mind on it. They're not as ditzy as they are portrayed, are they?
