Hey Christa, after seeing your interest in books. I believe I found a book you may enjoy. It has plenty of wit so that's something Rise of a Hero (Farsala, #2) by Hilari Bell Fall of a Kingdom (Farsala, #1) by Hilari Bell Forging the Sword (Farsala, #3) by Hilari Bell OKAY so maybe that was three, but it's a package and I still think you'll enjoy it ;)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments Cool! Thanks, I will check those out as soon as I can.

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments I just thought I would say, right now I am reading A Game of Thrones and it is awesome. So in depth and I am not even half way through it. The charters are great and the plot so gripping I cannot stop reading.

I recommend it.

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Ok, cool. I want to read that series, but was kinda wondering if would be the boring fantasy type. Did you know that there's a TV show out about that book. Sean Bean is in it...I only read about it in the paper because my little sister was like, "Hey! That's the guy that gets arrows in him in LOTR! He's alive!" ;) Little sibs are so cute! :)

message 5: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments HAhahaha, I love Sean Bean! Hug fin here. I had heard about the show but haven't seen it.

Warning there is a lot of mention of sex and several scenes even in the book. I heard the TV show was even worse making way more and very graphic.

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Oh....never mind then, lol. I can't stand that sort of stuff. Hinting at, I'm ok with that, but actual...nope. Thanks for telling me. :)

message 7: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments I don't care for it myself but since it is a book I just skip those parts. However the show is a different story.

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Same here, but if I read a book with a lot of it (unless it's a library book) I've burned them. Jade has been the willing pyro in those cases. ;) But, I've only done it maybe five times, and those were extreme cases.

message 9: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments Bwhahahaha!!!!!

I hardly ever buy a book I haven't read so I have never had to burn my books, but again brothers are great!

message 10: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Same here, that's the big thing I like about libraries. Plus, just being in the same building with thousands of books is intoxicating. :)

message 11: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments Tell me about it. I was walked into a book store that was two stories tall, I thought I was going to die. And we did not leave for a long time. I lost track of how long we were actually there, but all afternoon.

message 12: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Oh wow, that sounds like heaven. My brother teases me and says that when I'm in a bookstore, it's like him in a fishing store.

message 13: by Haley (new)

Haley I have to have someone with me when I go to bookstores. Otherwise I spend ridiculous amounts of money. I went today and bought four books... Whoops. At least it was Half-Price books. And we have some ridiculous bookstores around here, and I love it! The Barnes and Noble at the Kansas City Plaza is three full stories, and the one at our Mall is enormous! I love it

message 14: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments I used to go to Borders all the time, they had a whole section of discounted books because a page was bent or something but it went out of business. Too bad.

message 15: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) I have to leave my money at home when I know we're going to a book store, because other wise I'd spend it all! Or, I just bring a specific amount...:) I wish I was a millionaire, and I'd use the interest to keep myself in books.

message 16: by Haley (new)

Haley BORDERS!! I used to live in that store. It was my favorite. There's something about Barnes and Noble that I don't like too much, but it's pretty much the only bookstore around now :P
And Tabi, I know! The only reason I would want to be rich would be to buy my books, and then have a personal library to put them !!

message 17: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) The thing wrong with Barnes and Nobles, is that they seem to stiff and clean smelling for a bookstore. Same with Books-A-Million. Plus, the book are so expensive too! My favorite places to look are at yard-sales, thrift stores, and the used book section of libraries. Plus, anywhere I see books for sale I usually stop and look...just to see if there's anything I like/want.
I have never heard of Borders until now.
With my book buying, I usually read the book first from the library (unless it's an author that I know is good) and then get a bunch of books from Amazon with the free shipping deal.

message 18: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments I order most of my books through Amazon now. The book stores near me are too expensive with my favorite being 4 hours away. I also like how on Amazon you can buy a used book for cheaper if you want.

message 19: by Haley (new)

Haley Unless they're brand new books that I know I want, I buy my books at Half-Price Books, or this sweet independent bookstore called Prospero's. Or library booksales or antique shops sometimes. I should start checking garage sales, that's a good idea. And I've had to start ordering some from Amazon, but it always makes me sad to do that because I like being in bookstores and looking through the selections, and I can't do that online.

message 20: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments I love to look through the book stores so sometimes I look through them then go home and order on-line :D

message 21: by Haley (new)

Haley That's probably smart. I just can't do it :D I'm a weird, slightly broke, bookstore-obsessed girl

message 22: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Christa - Ron Paul 2012 wrote: "I love to look through the book stores so sometimes I look through them then go home and order on-line :D"

Yup. Get an idea and then I either check it out online, or go get it from my library. :) But yeah, online just doesn't hold a candle to bookstores.

message 23: by Haley (new)

Haley Most of the time, if I haven't read a book I check it out from the library, and then if I like it I go out and buy it because I always reread books. So there are often just as many books I want to read as there are books I want to buy.

message 24: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments I always re-read books. Some people say they have to many books to read to reread them, but I feel sorry for them. If I enjoy a book I reread it, if I don't enjoy I am sorry I read it in the first place.

message 25: by Haley (new)

Haley I can't remember if I've talked about these books in this group, so I'm going to do so now! I highly recommend Graceling (Graceling Realm, #1) by Kristin Cashore and Fire (Graceling Realm, #2) by Kristin Cashore They're (in my opinion) extremely well-written, with the main characters in each being kick-butt girls, which is always welcome. They were clever and unique and had the proper amount of action/romance/humor/everything. I'm a big fan!

message 26: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (last edited Apr 17, 2012 02:15PM) (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Eh, I didn't really like them...too much bed-hopping in my opinion. I don't like that in books, I mean, if you're going to have it, just slightly hint at it...which those books did not do. I'll read
Bitterblue (Graceling Realm, #3) by Kristin Cashore , just to finish the
story, but after that I'm washing my hands of that author.
I also thought that the heroines were kinda, well, whiny...which pretty much sums it up. Yeah, they could kick butt, but they complained the whole way.
Anyway, those are my thoughts on them.

Me too! I'll read some so much I pretty much have them half memorized. lol ;)

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, Tabi, I do the same thing. ;)

I agree!

message 30: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Thank you! Finally someone else who doesn't like those books!!! A miracle! ;)

message 31: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments It is really funny, I hate female main charters almost always. They are always trying to be boys, the parents are evil. And in med-evil books the parents are always trying to marry the daughter off to someone she doesn't want to marry. So daughter goes and marries someone else which turns out bad then the daughter blames the parent! Drives me nuts!

But even though I hate that sort of stuff I have always really like the "Tortall" books.

message 32: by Haley (new)

Haley I just finished Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning (in a day, mind you), and I highly recommend it. Awesome pace, fantastic mix of mystery and paranormal if you like that kind of thing (which I do)

message 33: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) I do...unless it's filled with sticky romance and vampires. I really don't like vampires...they remind me of mosquitoes...I just want to slap them away. lol ;)
Werewolves are cool though...:)

message 34: by Haley (new)

Haley No werewolves, only one vamp and he's not really a main character (though he is important), and I think there may be more romance in the following books but it didn't play a main role in this one. The possibility for it is there.

message 35: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments If you like books where the vampire are sick and evil, the main charter is amazing, the female lead in not annoying and the were-wolf kick ***!

Monster Hunter International (MHI, #1) by Larry Correia is the book for you! I love love love this book and the ones that come after it. I haven't gotten to read the last book yet but I am going to just as soon as I can.

message 36: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Ok, I'll check it out. Btw, I just read an AWESOME werewolf book
Raised by Wolves (Raised by Wolves, #1) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
I liked it, mainly because the werewolves were amazing, but also because it doesn't have the sappy romance drama most YA think they have to have nowadays. It does have some romance, but it's mainly about the wolf pack. I think you'll enjoy it. :)

message 37: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments Sweet! I love Werewolves!

message 38: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Me too. If anyone recommends Shiver trilogy...don't read it. The concept of wolves shifting because of the seasons was cool, but the rest of the story was so bad that the neat idea was was totally ruined by it.
Anyway, any other sweet werewolf stories that you can recommend?

message 39: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments I heard of a werewolve series where there is one girl and she can take as many as 7 male werewolves as mate, but I thought that sounds really lame and feministic (is that even a word?) to I opted out of reading it. I am not even sure what it was called.

message 40: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Ummm, Nightshade I think. Purplish color, white-blonde hair?

message 41: by Haley (new)

Haley Oh I just got Nightshade the other day to read. I've heard pretty good things

message 42: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Hmmm, I'll check it out and get my won opinion...;)

message 43: by Haley (new)

Haley I don't think it's the book Christa was talking about though. That doesn't sound like the description of Nightshade

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

I was told the third installment was a disappointment and not to bother cause I'll only end up hating it...

message 45: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) I've heard both good and bad, when that happens, I just read the book and find out. :)

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh no, they said it was good at first but then the loved hot guy dies for no reason and it's heart-wrecking so that's how it was...

message 47: by Haley (new)

Haley Spoiler alert?

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

I can't spoil anything seeing as I never read it! I'm just saying...

message 49: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Eh, I really don't care for much dying in books, especially if it's someone I like. :/ But even if a guy's hot and I don't like him (even if the heroine does) I sometimes cheer when they die. lol. Or she ends up dumping them. Stuff like that. I cheer on the odd man out most of the time, or the doomed best friend. ;)
Which is why I LOVE books where there's a best friend romance that works out. :D

message 50: by Haley (new)

Haley Oh, I think death is necessary in some books. Of course it makes me sad, and I always wish (almost always...) the character didn't have to die, but the books wouldn't be the same without it
