I LOVE HIM. I would marry him if he was a real character. And I refuse to call him by the name "Tobias".
I love him too! He's perfect and I wish I was as lucky as Tris but sadly I'm not a fictional character.
I really don't like how his real name is Tobias. I mean really? Four just doesn't seem like a Tobias.

Yes, couldn't Veronica Roth have picked a better name than Tobias? It sounds so weird, especially for Four. If I could rewrite Divergent, the first thing I would change would be Four's "real" name.
That would be the only thing I would change because the rest of it is AMAZING!
I think that I'm going to slowly warm up to the name if they keep using it in Insurgent. I recently found out that I was pronouncing it weird so now that I actually know what the name sounds like its a little better but I still like the name Four better.
The name issue is so annoying because I want to like it because its his actual name but at the same time I don't like it...

How were you pronouncing it? Maybe I'm just pronouncing it wrong...
I'm pronouncing it this way now "toe"-BY-uss
I don't know how I was pronouncing it before I just know that it was wrong...

Ohh!! Because I thought it was "Toe-BEEE-asss"
Yeah I've gotta agree with the rest of you: Tobias isn't working for me either. It's kind of a goody two-shoes name you know? Which makes sense if he was previously from Abnegation, but for the badboy tough guy image that he is supposed to present in Dauntless It's just wrong. So to me he'll always be Four.
im loving that everyone doesnt like his name being tobias! i will always refer to him as four and i hope in insurgent for some reason he is called four and they forget the tobias bit!
I actually like that his real name is Tobias. To me it is who he was and Four is who he is. Tobias was his name as an Abnegation, but when he changed to Dauntless, he became Tobias which fits the attitude and personality of a Dauntless. However, I don't think they should call him Tobias, because that his part of his past and Four is who he is now.
I think Four and Tobias both fit him. Four is when he's a Dauntless, and Tobais is his more personal name....
According to Veronica Roth, its pronounced Tuh-BYE-us. I always pronounced it Toe-bye-us though haha.I'm definitely in the minority here, but I actually like Tobias better.
I love Tobias though, hes one of my favorite characters and I hate it when Tris and him fight LOL
I love him!! When I first found out his real name was Tobias I was all "Out of all the names she chose Tobias!",but I like it now. I agree with Zoe.
He is my favourite literary man. Strangely it is because he doesn't do the things I like in others which makes me love him more, he isn't witty like Jace or moody like Will or just possessive like Edward (could probably think of more examples but the list would be very very long). He actually seems normal! (view spoiler)
I love Four so much. He is different than all the others. He loves her because she is strong and many of his mistakes with her is he forgets she can be vulnerable too

I love Tobias and Four. Both names fit him. And I'm a little concerned about the actor playing him in the movie
What are your concerns? At first I was worried about the age difference, however Theo seems to really understand the role and he looks the part! At least he is almost exactly how I imagined Four.
I agree, and I think watching the trailer will let us have more of a feel on how Theo will do as Four.
Oooooo I like this discussion! Yes, FOUR (I agree, Tobias is a little too bland a name for such a badass character) is DEFINITELY one of my favourite literary love interests. To be honest, I just love his relationship with Tris. He doesn't get her all Marie Sue-ish, which is how many female protagonists appear in YA (not all of them, but a lot).
Four, love him, his mysterious aura, his kind heart, *Sighs*. (please in the movie he has to be hot)
Four is just...ideal. That probably doesn't make sense, but think about it. He does things because he believes they're right, not because he is necessarily told to do something. He is the whole-hearted definition of a true man. Plus, he's hot and badass, which definitely doesn't hurt.

I like him a lot less after Allegiant. Tobias really, really angered me & I have yet to forgive him. I just thought the way he treated & spoke to Tris was completely unacceptable in the book. I was also irritated by his whininess: It didn't make sense for his character. Ugh! I won't give specifics in case someone has yet to read it, but he drove me nuts & I found myself completely unable to identify with him. I miss Four because Tobias is a big baby. -.-
I like how he has two different names - Tobias and Four. Four seems so much more bada** while Tobias is his softer side. I prefer to call him Four though because I like his fearless side so much better. Also, Four makes him sound so much more mysterious to me.
I enjoy the two different dimensions of this character and I love how Veronica Roth displayed this by having the character have two different names.
I really liked Four/Tobias in Divergent and Insurgent. I was at a lost about his development in Allegiant. I was a bit confused about why he was such a pansycake come Allegiant. I think perhaps that was one of the biggest disappointments for me in this series.

Annabel ♥,I would actually would marry him too:D!He sounds HOT :D!That is if he was a real person and my age ;D!!!!
Honestly, I like the name Tobias over Four. And yes he is totally marriable (<-- not a real word but still) and I would marry him! (view spoiler)

I felt like during Insurgent and Divergent he had the right idea about wanting to be the best of all the factions and then he sort of threw it out the window when (view spoiler)
Yeah I agree with Sam they did sort of have an insta love although I still love four and I love fourtris together!!!!

I loved him but in Allegiant he kind of annoyed me. He did some stupid things which were not necessary but all in all i really like him.
he is my favorite character, i like his personality. how he sort of has 2 sides to him, the strict instructor and the nice boyfriend.
I loved him in the first book and hated him in the last. I don't know why veronica roth thought it would be a good idea to deconstruct his entire character and turn him into an emo insecure kid which is the complete opposite of what he was in the first book. The change just didn't make sense to me :/
Laura wrote: "I like how he has two different names - Tobias and Four. Four seems so much more bada** while Tobias is his softer side. I prefer to call him Four though because I like his fearless side so much ..."I agree! I understand what Roth was doing--working up to the big reveal--but the name is connected to an identity he has essentially rejected.
Notice how the name is revealed in the same scene his body is revealed. We see, quite clearly depicted on his skin, who he was and what he's become. But he is no longer "Tobias."
For Tris to refer to him, in her thoughts, by that dead name presents a conflict. The name could've served its purpose in that scene by reminding us of his past and then been relegated to the dusty shelves of distant memory in order to make more room for the super hot, reinvented "Four."
But either way...still digging him. :)
