"I can't believe they sent me to this god damn place. Do they even love me?" El mumbled to herself. She wasn't actually angry about that though. A kid had just made fun of the way her eye twitches sometimes, but one bad thing that bothers her, often brings back all the bad memories to El, which just makes her more angry. She led Jackie into the field and climbed on her back. Horses always calmed her down at times like these. "Come on girl. Steady, steady, now...GO!" She yelled. She laughed and held on tight as the wind blew through her hair and the trees zipped past.
"Stupid horse. Stupid ranch. God damn world!" Chou muttered something else in Chinese and glared at the girl laughing on her horse. " How the hell are you enjoying this?!" Chou yelled. She thought back to her parents eyes as their life passed by. she shuddered. Sometimes the guilt was too much for her at times.
El stopped Jackie. "What did you say to me?" She glared at the girl. "What the hell makes you think I'm enjoying this?!" She spat.

"El, Chou! Calm down! You guys are here to get better, not to fight!" She glared at both of them. She turned to El.
"El, I don't think Jackie's ready to ride. Look at the poor thing." Jackie's eyes were rolling and her mouth was foaming. "You need to be gentle with her." Both girls glared at her.
"It's not my fault you guys got sent here! You're the ones who committed crimes. And on top of that, you have goddamn super powers!" Piper took a deep breath.
"Now. come back to Silver Lining and get ready. Lunch is in a few minutes." She wheeled Dusty around, ready to gallop away.
Chou spat at where El was standing. "Hope you fun with your horse-" She paused."You don't know what pain is. Pain you can't cure" She turned around, struggling to lead her stupid horse back to its stupid stable.
El stood and watched them walk away. She gritted her teeth. "You don't know what pain is" she immitated Chou. "Yeah right. What the hell does she know about me?" She sighed. "Obviously nothing." She looked at Jackie and saw that she was in pain. A wave of guilt came upon her. "I'm sorry girl." She muttered and led Jackie back to the stable.

"Chou, for one, you just got here, it's amazing you can ride at all. Second, this is a mustang! This horse has been abused and doesn't trust any one of us. What made you think you could hop on her back and just gallop on the range? Do you know what would happen if she saw a wild horse herd? She would kick, buck, and rear until you fell off, and then she would run to join the herd, and be lost forever! And so would the money that comes from the program!" Piper took a breath, than turned to the furious girl.
"Look, if you wanna ride, just ride one of the stable horses. And ask permission. You are not endearing yourself to this horse with the way you are acting. Your job is to make the horse trust people again. Be calm, be gentle, and," she glanced at Chou's outfit. Her sneakers, her tank top, her shorts. "Put actual riding clothes on." Chou glared at her. "You know, you wouldn't be here if you hadn't commited crimes that were too serioius for juvee. Although, the most serioius one, you never got caught for." Chou stared at her, shocked. "I know all about it Chou. I do. I had to learn about you, to see if you were a danger to the horses and people. I convinced my dad you weren't, but, if I were you, I wouldn't pull something as serious as murder around these parts." She straightened up, waiting for the eruption that was bound to come from the explosive Mount Chou.
Chou stepped so close to Piper's face, Piper winced."I had my reasons. I swear, if you EVER speak of it again, I will hurt you." Her eyes were ice, stabbing Piper's. "For the record, I don't need no permission from anyone, and I'll wear what I want to wear." Chou's voice was so steady and calm it was scary.

"I am not wanting to hurt, traumatize, or ruin these horses-" She said mimicking Piper's high and cheery voice. "I didn't want to come here, my stupid aunt sent me here."

"You obviously do or else you would listen to me and, also, you have to pass a screening in order to get here. Were you too busy with the immigration process to do it?" Piper was angry, but she knew her biting words were mean, and that Chou was not going to like it.
El was listening to this conversation from outside. She was in shock. "Chou committed murder?!" She made a mental note not to make her angry anymore. She felt bad for Chou though. It must be horrible to have to live with that. Then she heard more conversation and leaned in closer to listen.
Chou maintained her cool. Her eyes turned to daggars of ice. "Oh, how hilarious, a silly little bitch trying to insult me. Well guess what sweetie? You better sleep with one eye open tonight." Her head snapped in El's direction. "Don't you ever repeat that" She said with no intonation at all.
El's heart skipped a beat. "Did she see me? Was she talking to me?" She was breathing so hard that even if Chou hadn't seen her, she was sure she would now. She cautiously started to back away, unable to control her breaths.
Chou stepped closer to where she heard the voice. "You, miss Ella." She said in a cold, icy voice. "Should sleep with one eye open too" Her voice was so straight and low and cold that it was frightening. "Guess what?" She cocked her head. "We're roommates" A horrific smile crept up on her face, sending shiver's down any one who laid eyes on her's back.
El's knees were shaking so bad she could hardly stand. She turned to run, but tripped in the grass. Quickly, she turned around and saw Chou approaching her, a mad look in her eye.
Chou was hovering over her, a crooked smile looking down on El. "Sweetie Pie, you're so kind to let me cut up your shirts to make my crop tops. I'm so happy we're roomies." She grabbed El by the back of the shirt, pulled her up, and then pushed her down again. She walked away, stepping on her fingers in the process.
