Rant #1: Farid

Dear Lord, where to start! This guy was one of the main reasons I naively read Inkheart, then Inkspell and then - hoping for more Faridness! - Inkdeath. He was kind, funny, cute and let's face it...he was the only guy BESIDES Mo (which, even though he's Brendan Fraser in the movie and dreamy, is like Meggie's dad which would be creepy to crush on in my opinion!) and the Black Prince, that was in the least fangirl-worthy for me.

Then...Inkdeath.

Nice wording. Inkdeath. Should have been called "Death of Farid" or "Death of Farid's Reputation"!! Farid metamorphosis (the only word for it!) was sudden and horrible!

He turns into a two-timing (or THREE timing - note the maid @ Orpheus' that he admits he made out with), snivelling (whine, whine, whine, DUSTFINGER, whine, whine), stupid (can't he TELL Meggie needs him?!), insensitive (yep. Let's just be happy about how Meggie's dad practically sacrifices himself so we can have a daddy figure again!) and downright hypocritical (let's go back to the way things were, Meggie. Why wouldn't that be a problem?) jerk. It was like:

Book 1: Farid the cute Arabian dude
Book 2: Farid Meggie's sweet and loyal boyfriend
Book 3: Farid the WBJ (World's Biggest Jerk)

Was there a book 2.5 I didn't know about?!!

It's like:

Farid: Gees, Meggie. Thanks for bringing me back to life!
Meggie: Your welcome; I love you Farid.
Farid: Ok. Now that's out of the way, I wish I was dead 'cause I miss Dustfinger. Sorry.
Meggie:...
Farid: So I need you to work your ass off helping me, with nothing in return, because I need a daddy figure. You're just not good enough.
Meggie:...
Farid: And then I'm going to act all jealous everytime someone even LOOKS at you.
Meggie: Why am I still here?
Farid: Beats me!

WHY?!!!!!!!!! Farid - you were so wonderful!!! WHY?!!!

You know how Farid leaves at the end of Inkdeath (I've already told you this Booknut)?
I KNOW WHAT HAPPENS TO HIM!!!!
I was on my way to this place somewhere near the city/beach when, when, WHEN, looking out the window what do I spy with my little eye?
A shop that is called 'Farid's Persian Rugs'.
I swear to you that this is true. And this is what Farid decided to do with the rest of his life. He grew old with a potbelly and decided to sell Persian rugs. He's probably in a business partnership with either Basta or Orpheus.

Perfection *Sherlock's Girl* | 7 comments Farid is pathetic in Inkdeath. He becomes like a totally different character. I was dancing with joy when Meggie dumped him in the end..

Melissa | 869 comments Farid's little man-crush on Dustfinger was down right annoying. I mean even Dustfinger's wife was getting all jealous, Meggie obviously deserves better than the likes of him.

Daphne Farid definitely annoyed me in the last book. However, so did Meggie. I personally think that they are perfect for each other because in the last book I found them both extremely whiny and annoying. It was like the author was trying to make everybody hate every character we loved!
