Emily sat at a booth in the cafe. She had jut moved here and wondered if se would meet anybody.Rachel came in with her boyfriend, miling. She potted Emily, the new girl
Josh walked into the cafe. He didn't know a lot of people yet since He moved here a couple months ago. He is almost ready to open the vet clinic here. Still needs some setting up though. Seeing no other seats available, he walked up to a boy drinking coffee. "Excuse me? Is this seat taken?"
"Thank you." He replied, smiling at how delicate the boy ate his food. It was cute. He ordered black coffee and a cream cheese bagel. "I'm Josh." He said, staring at his bagel so it seemed unclear if he was speaking to the boy or the waitor.
Taking in his careless tone, Josh watched him from the corner of his eye. He looked like he was in high school, a little young. But Josh felt he needed to branch out, not caring who at this point. It's been around 6 months since coming here and he hasn't secured any friends yet. Not to mention it would be good for business. Turning to face the boy he stuck out his hand and said "Well, it's very nice to meet you, Kurt." With a charming smile on his face
Cute smile. He thought, though he tried not to show his appreciation that much. Again, he did look like he was in high school. Nothing wrong with looking though. Nodding to the girl Kurt waved to earlier he asked, "Is that your friend over there?" Josh was sure she was at least in high school or maybe starting out college...
"No...I mean Rachel's nice, but she talks a little too much. but you gotta love her anyway. So....yes."
He gave a little laugh. "No? Yes? Are you sure you guys are friends?" Taking a sip of his coffeee, he grimaced, loving the bitter taste. "SO she talks to much...and you, you don't talk enough..." He observed.
Hmm he seems like he's not a very open person.... It was like pulling hairs talking to him. "She's not your type? What is then?"
Oh, so he does play for my team. Josh was thinking his gaydar was turning out to be horrible. Either that or clearly Kurt wasn't into him. He took a bite of his bagel and mocked thinking about his question. With a finger resting on his chin, he looked up and said with a smile, "Hmmm...just one. But he might be a little old for you."
"Really. But you don't even know my age. I meant be 20 for all you know." HE smiled being flirty and sarcastic
In a mock serious tone he said, "Me? Why Kurt, I never said the guy was me. You seem to be getting ahead of yourself hmm." He laughed. "Alright well, I'm guessing you're still in high school. Though, of course I could be wrong. So how about you do tell me your age?"
"The arts huh? Anything specific?" Josh was glad he seemed like he was opening up a little bit. More talkative, but still a little distant.
"Well, you're in luck. The guy I know, he likes the arsty type." Paying for his coffee and bagel, he got up and looked at the boy. "It was a pleasure talking to you Kurt." He smiled his most dazzling smile.
Josh stopped, "His name is Josh." He smiled and turned to go, walking a few steps. Remembering one other thing, he turned back and half yelled, "Oh, I'll be sure to tell him about you, Kurt. I can already tell he's gonna like you." With one last lopsided grin, he waved and walked out the cafe door.
Shane danced through the door of the Café, her hips swinging to the beat of her favorite Ke$ha song blasting from her iPhone and through her signature purple Skull Candy ear buds. All her classes had been cancelled for some meeting that day, so she decided have her own adventures for the day. It had been ages since she just went around San Fran at random, no real destination in mind. But for starters, she needed her caramel frappuccino with a shot of chocolate to start off her day. Her hips continued to sway as she waited in line, fidgeting with the hem of her ratty I <3 NY tee. The tell tale Kpop ringtone signaling a new text went off, prompting her to pull her iPhone from the pocket of her black denim mini. “Ah geez, it’s mom again. It’s not even afternoon yet and she’s texted me about twenty times…this is nuts,” she muttered to herself, but due to being unable to hear her own voice she was a bit louder than she intended.
After sending her mother the 20th text of the day, Shane looked up when she noticed she was now at the front of the line and the girl behind the counter was speaking to her. Pulling out one of her ear buds and letting it dangle over her shoulder, she gave an embarrassed laugh as she slid her iPhone back into her pocket. “Sorry about that. Um, can I get a medium caramel frappuccino with a shot of chocolate? Oh! And a chocolate chip muffin.”
Shane could tell the girl was trying her hardest not to laugh, not that she could really blame her. She felt her cheeks grow warmer as she felt even more embarrassed. She had a habit of talking to herself in public, and it wasn’t the first time someone had laughed about it. Reaching into her pocket to pull out her Hello Kitty wallet, she couldn’t help but notice the girl was really cute. A small smirk pulled at the corner of her lips as she read her name tag. “Camryn. Pretty name.” She said casually as she laid a ten dollar bill on the counter. Taking her drink and muffin, she gave Camryn a wink as she turned to head for one of the tables. “Thanks, and keep the change.”
Taking a seat at one of the tables closest to the door, Shane started in on her muffin as she pulled back out her iPhone. With a slight frown, she began looking through her schedule for the rest of the month. “Ugh…things’ll get busy starting next week,” she muttered to herself, this time more under her breath since she could gauge her volume better. While she had the chance, she peeked back at the counter and watched Camryn inconspicuously. Shane couldn’t help but think she reminded her a bit of her ex, if only because they both had the same dark hair. With a shrug, she went back to flipping through her calendar.
Her muffin now gone and cup half empty, Shane stood from her seat and stretched her arms over her head. As she did so, her shirt hiked up a bit to show her midriff and revealing an amethyst belly ring. Tugging down her shirt and putting her ear bud back in her ear, she picked up her cup and went to leave. Thinking better of it, she turned and walked back to the counter with a small smirk. “Ya know, I just realized it’s kind of rude for me to know your name and not to tell you mine. I’m Shane.” She said casually, holding out her hand to Camryn.
Folding her arms on the counter top and pulling her ear bud from her ear again, Shane leaned against the counter. She spun the cup in her hand, looking around the café at the other people. It had been a while since she had come in here, seeing as she rarely ever had time. “I have to say that was the best muffin I’ve ever had,” she said, looking back at Camryn with a smile. “Hey, I don’t think I’ve seen you in here before. You new here?”
Shane looked down at her cup, seemingly moving on its own in her hand though her movements were controlling it. It had been sometime since she had last come in the café, but she had no idea it had been that long. “I’ve lived here since I was 7. So about 10 years, give or take. And I used to come in here all the time but…guess the last month kind of got away from me,” she said as she chuckled softly, going over in her mind just how busy things had been. Looking around at the fairly empty café, she looked back at Camryn with a mischievous smirk. “Question. I’m kind of just hanging out today, since my classes are cancelled today. When do you get off? Maybe we could hang out or something.”
Shane could tell Camryn was excited, and not just from the wide grin she was displaying. Her eyes had obviously lit up when Shane asked her to hang out, and Shane found it rather cute. “Well, at least I know for sure she isn’t straight,” she thought to herself as she pushed off from the counter. “Great. I’ll be over at the table I was sitting at before.” Giving Camryn a quick wink, Shane placed her ear bud back in her ear and danced back over to her table.
Shane looked up a bit startled at Camryn’s voice, smiling a bit as she pulled out her iPhone to pause her music. Removing her ear buds from her ears and placing everything back in her pocket, she stood from the table. “All done with your shift?” It seemed like the 15 minutes had gone by quickly, but Shane didn’t mind.
Shane shifted her weight from side to side, bouncing on the balls of her feet a bit as she thought. There were quite a few things she had wanted to do, but most of them were so boring she figured she could put them off until tomorrow. “Well, I planned on heading into Japan Town. I’m supposed to pick up an order at the manga store. We can just wander around there if you want.” She spoke casually, not wanting to come off as too strong when she had only just met the girl. Then she realized she hadn’t brought her bag with her, and the order was about 20 manga volumes. “Gah, but I really need to stop by my apartment to pick up my bag first. That alright with you? You can wait here if you want.”
Looking at her crystal encrusted Sailor Moon watch, Shane tilted her head from side to side as she looked at the time. There was enough time before the clerk would lock up her order for Camryn to wait for her to come back, but she thought better of it. “You can come with me back to my apartment. I’d feel bad leaving you here,” she said with a small smile, heading to the door. After pulling open the door, she waved Camryn to go first. “After you.”
Shane let the door close behind her as she followed Camryn out onto the side walk, laughing softly at her rambling. She couldn’t help but find it cute when girls got nervous like that, and it seemed to be a rather often occurrence. “No, no you’re fine. Don’t worry; it’s really cute when girls ramble. At least to me anyways.” Shane looked around the street, wondering what was the best way to go about this. She had walked from her apartment building to the café, but they would need a car to get to Japan Town and hers was in the shop. “You know, I don’t live too far from here; just a few blocks away. But since we need a car to get to Japan Town, you can drive if you want. I walked here so no need to worry about a bike cluttering up your trunk.”
Looking over at Camryn’s car, Shane gave a small uncharacteristic squeal. “I love it! I’ve always thought bugs were the most adorable cars.” After giving Camryn the direction s to her apartment, Shane made her way to the car. She waited by the passenger door for Camryn’s go ahead to climb in, not even sure if it was unlocked but not wanting to be rude.
Shane climbed into the car, pulling closed the door and putting on her seat belt. She laughed as Camryn turned down the music. “It’s cool. I always blast my music no matter what I’m doing. May I?” She asked, reaching to turn up the volume before Camryn answered. She began singing along, feeling completely comfortable in the car and beside Camryn though she had just met her. “To my apartment away!” She said in her best super hero voice as she pointed ahead.
Shane nodded as confirmation to Camryn’s question, blocking out the random commercials coming from the radio. She pondered over Camryn’s second question, wondering the exact same thing. “You know what? After I pick up my stuff at the manga store, why don’t we just wing it? It’s always more fun that way.” She looked over at Camryn, an excited smile tugging at her lips. Looking back out the windshield, she saw her apartment building just a little ways ahead. “Ah, there it is. Home sweet home.”
