Mira | 13 comments I have chosen Fable: Balvarine Order by Peter David because I have played the game and read the second book in the series.
The cover of the book looks interesting since you can see two boys that look like there around 17-18. There holding weapons in there hands and are sharing a metal shield. In the shield you can see a beast with razor sharp teeth and blood red eyes.
The blurb makes you want to read the book even more. It states that two boys James and Thomas want to find a legenadary beast and they encounter many people that might help them or do the opposite. Then it goes on that they might not make it out alive.
I think that they will catch the beast at the end and bring it back as hearo's.

Zeesha Shirin | 10 comments I have chosen "Shopaholic Abroad" by Sophie Kinsella because it was recommeded to me earlier as an interesting read.

The cover picture of the book is that of a girl cramming in many shopping bags in a taxi. There is even a bag on the floor!

The blurb makes you read the book by presenting a relatable problem situtaion, especially for girls. It introduces a girl called Becky Bloomwood who is going to move to New York. She has lots of deals in showbiz because she is a financial expert on Morning Coffee, a TV show.

The blurb further says that many have discovered her crisis in shopping. The blurb says that she shops too much.

I think she is going to find a way out of this crisis.

Madeline B | 16 comments The book I am reading is "St Clare's - The first year" by Enid Blyton.
The book is about 2 girls Isabel and Pat who are starting High School but their parents want to send them to a boarding school. Their parents wanted them to go to St Clare's but the girls had no interest. They argued with their parents but never got their way.

As they start their first year at St Clare's they do not like it at all. But as they start to explore and misbehave they begin to like it.

On the front cover is the book is a picture of Pat and Isabel in their school uniform. They look like they are up to no good. In the background is also some girls looking at Pat and Isabel with concern.

I think the novel is about to young girls who do not like change. They normally get their own way but not this time. I also think that as they continue their journey at St Clare's they will begin to like it and obey their rules. They will start to think that they are starting to fit in more. I also think that they will both not become home sick any more.

Together they will work through their first year at St Clare's.

Mira | 13 comments At the beginning of the book it tells me that there is a boy named Thomas and he has a servant/friend named James. Thomas loves books about strange creatures and animals. He has experenced his brothers death by a an animal called a balvarine. Sadly his mother died and his father left him.

Thomas and James are the main chracters and both have diffrent personalities.
There are other characters in the story but don't have much importance.

Thomas and James are really good friends, there like paid friends since James is also his servant.
Thomas has quite a similer personality to James but Thomas is more of a person that just wants to go and do it.
James has that personality too but usually second guesses it. Good thing that Thomas helps James and tells him that it will be alright.

Sarah | 9 comments The book I have chosen is "tuesdays with morrie" by Mitch Albom.

The blurb on the back cover of this novel says that on the last days of the professors life, once a week in his house he would meet before breakfast and talk about the 'meaning of life'. It was taught from experience. I think this shows that the man they are talking about in the novel is a very wise man and has lived a very fulfilling life.

By looking at the front cover I think this book will be about him building a strong relationship with one of the characters in the book. The man in the cover looks very inspired by this old man and even though the old man doesn't have very long to live he is happy because he has lived his life with no regrets.

I think all these life lessons will lead Mitch into a long and meaningful life and will inspire him to share the old mans 'meaning of life' to the world.

Zeesha Shirin | 10 comments Thx Sarah how is your reading everybody?

message 10: by Zeesha (last edited Apr 22, 2012 08:13PM) (new)

Zeesha Shirin | 10 comments The two main characters are Becky and Luke  and the co - character is Suze.

The story of Shopaholic Abroad is about Becky who is obsessed with shopping. The 2nd mail characterc is Luke who is her boyfriend. Becky has a Roomate called Suze.

Luke is a business man who wants to impress his mother by his work. He also wants to make it into New York. He wants to open up a new Brandon Communications(his company) in New York.

Becky is a Tv show woman. She appears in a show called Morning Coffee. She likes shopping and she likes her job. She gets overdrafts very often because of her shopping but she always finds a way out.

Suze is Becky's room mate . She sells frames which are very popular all around. Suze constanly gives advice to Becky.

message 11: by Zeesha (last edited Apr 22, 2012 08:46PM) (new)

Zeesha Shirin | 10 comments The theme in my book is based on love. Becky's love for Luke. Becky's love for shopping and Becky's love for her parents. The book is also based on seeking parental approval mainly about Luke seeking approval of his mother by opening a company in New York.

My book talks about Becky's and Luke's relationship where Becky is very upset that Luke does not mention his move to New York to her. The main event in the book is about the wedding between Becky's old friend Tom and Becky's mom's best friend's daughter Lucy. Everyone thinks that Becky is in love with Tom and she can finally prove them wrong by showing them that she is in a serious relationship with Luke and this wedding will help her prove that.

The author keeps the book interesting by making sure Luke only arrives at the wedding when the service is almost over. Keeping us from us from guessing what will happen next.

message 12: by Zeesha (new)

Zeesha Shirin | 10 comments Becky arrives at her parents house for her old friend Tom Webster's wedding. Tom is marrying becky's moms best friend daughter Lucy. Becky can't beleve any one would want to marry Tom with his huge and clammy hands and lucy with her hair all flat and boring.

Jane (becky's mum) is in a flame when Becky arrives. Jane is fumed because Gordon Brown the prime minister can't dress and in her opinion if you can't dress you can't handle a country. She is also angry because Lucy got a £3,000 pound dress and a £1,000 pound veil. Luke tryes to come to the wedding but get held up as he is flying in to the wedding from Zurich. Everyone thinks that Becky is still after Tom .

I think Luke is going to come and shock everyone.

Zeesha Shirin | 10 comments When i saw the book in the shop i bought it because it was recommended to me by a friend but when i started to read the book "Shopaholic Abroad" I one thing struck me about being similar is that both of us ( Becky the main character in the book and me) like to shop. Like Becky when I look at something in the shop I like to buy it. I don not think if I can afford to buy it at that point of time I just need to have it and that is something we have in common.

Another similar point of the novel is I am constantly seeking to impress my mother like Luke does.

message 14: by Zeesha (last edited Apr 22, 2012 09:21PM) (new)

Zeesha Shirin | 10 comments I have learnt a number of things while reading "Shopaholic Abroad". The two main things I have learnt are:

-Not to shop for stuff you don't really need even though it lis tempting at that point of time or if it is speaking to you. Don't buy stuff for "just in case reasons."

- Having overdrafts checks and worrying about how to pay for stuff one does not actually need it not worth the problem.

- I would love to be someone like Suze which a wonderful room mate who is always looking out for Becky.

message 15: by Mira (last edited Apr 26, 2012 02:03PM) (new)

Mira | 13 comments The main idea is that if you want to do something and there are bumps in the road you must pull up, think and keep going
The book isn't that similar to my life because i'm not chasing some legandary beast and walking freely around the world.
Even thou it is set in different times and places it still can relate to my life. I can stand up for other people that are having troubles and face people that don't quite like me.

So far i have learned that every thing happens for a reason and that there is a good after the bad. That everything has a purpose in life and the bad things bring you closer to the good.
I would recomend this book to people who like some adventure, real life and mystery.

Right now the book has alot of mystery and exitment. The main characters have just faced court and been locked up in cells and for lots reason have set free into a rich mans mansion. The book is getting very interesting right now.

message 16: by Zeesha (last edited Apr 22, 2012 09:38PM) (new)

Zeesha Shirin | 10 comments I would recommend " Shopaholic Abroad " to young adult readers or people who are aged between 12 -18 years because it is an easy read and interesting.

I would also recommend this book it to my friends because I believe that my friends will be able to relate to this book and Becky in real life. When Becky gets into trouble there is just something about her that makes one feel as if you could be that character.

I liked this book and I hope that my friends like it too.

message 17: by Madeline (new)

Madeline B | 16 comments At the beginning of this book (the orientation) Pat and Isabel have just finished primary school. There parents now have to make a huge decision of where to send them for High School.
In the end their parents decide to send them to St. Clare's. Pat and Isabel aren't at all happy about this and get very angry with their parents.
After a lot of disagreeing the girls accept that they are going to St. Clare's even though there not at all happy with it.

message 18: by Madeline (new)

Madeline B | 16 comments The main characters in my book are Pat and Isabel who are twin sisters. Pat is the sweet innocent one who always does what she is told and never rebels against the rules. Pat always is one time for everything and has everything in perfect order.

But Isabel on the other hand doesn't care much for rules. She likes to do her own thing and do what she thinks is best(which never seems to be right).

Sometimes Isabel's rebellious actions rub off on Pat and together they make terrible mischief. Pat and Isabel love each other dearly but when they disagree - they DISAGREE !!

message 19: by Madeline (new)

Madeline B | 16 comments The main idea in my book would most likely be growing up. Throughout the story Pat and Isabel learn that life is not always easy. Also when you grow up that much more is expected of you and you have to live up to certain standards.
The girls do not particularly like the whole idea of growing up but with their strong relationship with each other they get through it just fine.

message 20: by Mira (last edited Apr 26, 2012 02:04PM) (new)

Mira | 13 comments The main idea right now is that things never go as planned so expect anything from everything.
The novel is similar to my llife because people aren't who they really are and have heaps of secreats hidden from you that eventually one day be reveled...
Some disimilarities are that i don't know people that can transform into monsters and there are no such things as will, skill and strength hearoes.

I have learned that if I try hard i will get it exept it might not be as i thought it would turn out.
I would recommend this book to people that are young adults and people aged between 11-24

There are a series of books but their for each major event in the year. The girls do get in trouble some times but they try to stay out of it (if they can).

message 24: by Madeline (new)

Madeline B | 16 comments This novel is very similar to my life as I have also just started year 7 at St. Clare's. The book was given to me as sort of a joke.
I can relate also to the theme of the book. When we grow up much more is expected of us. I can relate to this book a lot. Sometimes i can also look to my book for guidance and tips of dealing with growing up and starting at a new school.

St. Clare's:The first year is a great book and I can relate to it a lot.

message 25: by Madeline (new)

Madeline B | 16 comments I have learnt lots of things from reading my novel but one big thing was how to deal with change.

I learnt to accept things that your not used to.
This was helpful information because as i started high school there were many changes from primary school.
As i learnt to accept these changes it made it easier for me to adapt to any other changes i may encounter.

message 26: by Madeline (new)

Madeline B | 16 comments I would definitely recommend this book to other readers. I think it would be best for children from the ages of 11-13 of any gender.
My novel is great as it is easy to read and follow along with the story line. The word print is not to small and there are not to many difficult words to pronounce.
The author Enid Blyton is the reason the book is so good.
St. Clare's : The first year is a fantastic book and i would highly recommend it to other readers.

Mira | 13 comments The main idea is that even thou you might know yourself things in life happen and discover you were not the best..
The novel isn't similar to my life because i'm not a hearo or have any powers.
It's similar because i would also do crazy things to save the world from horrible people or things.

I have learned that there are more answers than one and that all answers should be taken in before making a mistake.
I would recommend this book to people you love exitment and mystery and people who wouldn't mind staying up at night

message 34: by Mira (last edited Apr 26, 2012 02:02PM) (new)

Mira | 13 comments The main idea is to over come fear. It can be simply by doing something you don't want to or doing something you need to.
The novel isn't similar to my life since i would have the strength to go looking for a legendary beast or turn into a hearo
It is similar to my life since i also love adventuring into places and looking for things exept things that already exist and not are myths.

I would recommend this book to people who love adventure and mystery and that love to read books.
James and Thomas have turned into hearo's and it is up to them right now to save the world from the balvarine order and hopefully they do.

Sarah | 9 comments The orientation of the book 'tuesdays with Morrie' tells me that Morrie is a retired school teacher/professor in his late seventies. Morrie is dying, and one of his former students from 20 year ago 'finds' him again.

In the last two months of the professors life he meets with his former student every tuesday to talk about 'the meaning of life'. They cover a different topic each week which includes, regrets, dying, family, marriage, money, culture and forgiveness.

The main characters are Morrie and his former student Mitch. Morrie is an elderly, retired professor. He is a very wise, compassionate and happy man. Mitch was Morries student 20 years ago. They had a close friendship and Morrie was his mentor. The things they share and talk about before Morrie dies brings them even closer and rekindles their friendship. Mitch is now like a son to Morrie.

message 36: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 9 comments The main idea and theme of the book is the meaning of life. Morrie talks about alot of his life experiences and share inspiring quotes and stories with Mitch. They are starting to rekindle their friendship and the old man treats him like and son and feels very connected to him.

Although Morrie is dieing Mitch does not feel sadness but happiness that he has got to reconnect with his old mentor and his close friend. The main idea of the book is accepting death and to embrace the fact everyone has to die one day and it is going to happen to every single one of us.

message 37: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 9 comments The novel is very similar to my life because having lost close family, the book teaches me not to fear death but to live as you are going to die so you dont take anything for granted and you live your life to the full.

A saying of his was once you have learned to die, you have learnt how to live. I think this is really important because we need to embrace death and come to terms with the fact that everyone has to die one day and we cant stop it.

message 38: by Sarah (last edited Apr 25, 2012 06:38PM) (new)

Sarah | 9 comments I have learnt from the book that once you accept death and realise that it is inevitable you will not fear it, then you learn how to live. It also teachers me the importance of finding a meaningful life, by devoting yourself to your community, family and things that give you purpose and meaning. Also I have learnt to do things from the heart! and to find whats good, true and beautiful in your life and to live for the moment.

message 39: by Sarah (last edited Apr 25, 2012 06:37PM) (new)

Sarah | 9 comments I would recommend this book because my mother read this book swell last year just before her mother (my grandmother) passed away. It gave her great comfort. This book helps you to to think about the things that are important in life, friends, family and simple pleasures like dancing, swimming and being with nature. Not money and possessions.

I would recommend this book to anyone. It is easy to read and really makes us think about our lives and what our purpose on this world is. It is a book for any age and I strongly recommend to anyone who wants to read it.

"Your book sound really good Sarah. Is it a bit sad and is it also a movie???"

As they become closer and closer it does become sad because at the back of your mind you know that Morrie is going to die. Morrie didnt want Mitch to be sad though because he did not fear death so he wanted Mitch to not fear it either but to just embrace the fact death is inevatible and we all have to accept that.

There is not a movie for it. I think it is better as a book because you can look at what he says and really take it in. I think if it was a movie it would be too much to take in at one time, you really need to look at what he says and take in consideration how it could help your everyday life.
