This series was like nothing I have ever read. It was fun, exciting and intriguing.

Yes I really enjoyed this series though I know others who disliked them or found them really boring.
That's what I questioned. But I found them a very unique read in an age where unnatural beauty is rising as a weird phenomenon. It really challenges the idea of what is real beauty.
I know, though sadly I think our future (probably our great grandkids future) will become similar to this but more in the fact of Designer babies, through selective breading and things like the genome project. I think poor people will look a certain way (undesirable as such) and that rich people will have the desrable looks.
Same with stem cell research, I think this is a down side and hopefully people will stick to using stem cells to cure diseases and not to produce desirable bodies, and turn it into a money making business.
Yes, have you seen the film Gattaca? That again presents an interesting portrayal of the future. I think that I tend to enjoy films and novels that come up with interesting ideas of what the future could hold even if I don't believe the future would be like that. Because in many ways they provide insight into the now by showing how our flaws could grow and culminate in a possible event.
I definitely agree with designer babies. That could happen where certain people are chosen to be leaders and artists and athletes too. I would like to read a story like that where the author takes that idea and then writes about how one person chosen to be an athlete by genes wants instead to pursue their dream of becoming an artist...

I probably should have a go at writing that story. It would be similar to others I have read but it would be different at the same time...
Gattaca is very good. It discusses the whole genetic purity thing very well. It's all about possessing the perfect genes to have the perfect job.

1997 apparently I've just found out. I wouldn't have thought it. It stars Ethan Hawke and Jude Law.
I loved this series. It was really unique as you guys said. All the people that I know have loved the series.
I loved the first 2 of the book, The Uglies and The Pretties. As for the other books...they confused the crap outta me! But I want to know what happens to her. Was there another book about her? Or just the bubblies?

thats exactly what I loved about them!

I just have a love of sci-fi which talks about a somewhat near future and challenges modern concepts. I feel good novels are highly enjoyable as stories and can challenge ideas or strengthen ideas.
I read the Uglies trilogy a couple of years ago. I enjoyed them, but I absolutely hated Tally. As far as I'm concerned Shay was the real hero of the story. She did everything first and Tally merely followed. I'd say more, but I don't want to spoil the last book unnecessarily.
I agree, Alicia. I liked the Uglies trilogy but there were some parts that I thought were really cheesy. But overall, good books. I teach 8th grade and the girls in my class devoured those books. I had a class set and they totally wore them out!
