What are you reading? The April genre challenge? I just started Shades of Grey. And I have Fifty Shades of Grey on hold at the library.

I'm working on three. Listening to Lottery. Really enjoying it. If you liked The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time think you'll like this. Reading Still Alice and Tough Shit: Life Advice from a Fat, Lazy Slob Who Did Good. All very good can't decided what to pick up and finish.
I'm waiting anxiously for the next in the 50 Shades book to come out next week. Those books are definitely my new guilty pleasure. (no ereader here) I just finished, "Battle Royale," tonight. It was intense and a good read. I definitely see the similarities with it and Hunger Games although they both spoke to me in different ways. I will finish the new Ellen DeGeneres book today or tomorrow and will probably keep reading , "More than it hurts you," which is a fiction about Munchausen by proxy although I don't know that I'm liking the writing style much. I'll give it 100 pages or so.
Ii just finished Below Stairs: The Classic Kitchen Maid's Memoir That Inspired "Upstairs, Downstairs" and "Downton Abbey", and I am continuing in the memoir mode with The Pioneer Woman: Black Heels to Tractor Wheels.
Vicky wrote: "I am almost finished Ready Player One. I am not a big computer game fan however this book is rather interesting. I am also going to finish re-reading Mockingjay. G..."I'm not reading it, and I probably won't.
Gretchen, I read and enjoyed all of the books you have in your cue - except the last one - never read it.
I'm reading She's Come Undone and really enjoying it. This is my second Wally Lamb book. The first one I read was The Hour I First Believed, which is one of the worst books I've ever read. Truly awful. I actually didn't even finish it, though I read most of it.
Caroline wrote: "I'm reading She's Come Undone and really enjoying it. This is my second Wally Lamb book. The only reason I put The Hour I First Belived on my TBR list was because I read Columbine. It's a pretty hefty read no? So that and the fact you are giving it such a bad review I'll probably not worry about getting to it.. maybe ever. ha!
I really liked The Hour I First Believed. I haven't read a Wally Lamb book that hasn't soothed my soul I know I'm in the Minority here But I love him so.
I've just finished More Deaths Than One, which I won on a GR giveaway and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I've now moved on to a bit of brain candy with Dead and Gone which shouldn't take me all that long to demolish then I've got The Drowning to read which my nan has lent to me, which I am really looking forward to reading.
I didn't care much for The Hour I First Believed but I LOVED I Know This Much is True. It was also a hefty book. I'm listening to Cold Vengeance and just loving it:)
Wally Lamb is hit or miss for me, with "The Hour I First Believed" a big miss.I also struck out with The Retribution. I haven't read the whole series, so maybe that's why I didn't care for this book. I was not invested in the characters, and there wasn't anything in the plot that drew me into them. And though I like mysteries and police procedurals, I am finding serial killers such a tiresome plot device.
Theresa wrote: "What are you reading? The April genre challenge? I just started Shades of Grey. And I have Fifty Shades of Grey on hold at the library."And so far I am not loving
Shades of Grey.
Leslie wrote: "I really liked The Hour I First Believed. I haven't read a Wally Lamb book that hasn't soothed my soul I know I'm in the Minority here But I love him so."I'm with you Leslie. I particularly love I Know This Much is True. I actually keep a copy of it in my car (along with Outlander) in case I am broken down with nothing to read.
These Wally Lamb book titles sound so much alike. I have heard fantastic things over and over about I Know This Much is True, but the reviews for The Hour I First Believed (his latest one and the one that has the Columbine High storyline) are overall VERY bad. Just check out the reviews here on Goodreads. I kept nodding my head and shouting "Yes!" as I read them. I was wondering if it was just me but apparently not. Many people really hate his latest. I hope he gets back on track with his next book.
Heather that one broke my heart. I also like the book he has that's written by the ladies at the women's prison he mentored at. Caroline I guess we can't be book twins on everything! Lol
I like Heather's idea of always keeping a book in your car. You never know when the opportunity to read may present itself. Think I'll stick a book of short stories under the passenger seat.

It was "The Hour I First Believed" that I did not like.
And I agree with Heather and Melki about keeping a book or two in the car. You never know when it will come in handy.
And, now for something different-American History non-fiction about President Garfield, someone I knew little about. I used to doze off in History class in high school, and really not until lately, I've become fascinated by it. So reading Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President
Too much like The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America, a book I loved.
Too early to pass judgement on Garfield book, but he was such a "nice" man, should never have been assasinated by nutcase.
Also, the online book discussion group (on another site) selected The Cat's Table for the June discussion.
@Carol-will be interested to see what you think of Pioneer Woman's Black Heels and Tractor book .........;)
Leslie wrote: "Heather that one broke my heart. I also like the book he has that's written by the ladies at the women's prison he mentored at. Caroline I guess we can't be book twins on everything! Lol"It's ok. I still like you! :D I saw that women's prison book just yesterday at a used book sale. I didn't realize it existed. I know he incorporated a good deal of his experiences there in his most recent book.
Melki wrote: "I like Heather's idea of always keeping a book in your car. You never know when the opportunity to read may present itself. Think I'll stick a book of short stories under the passenger seat."
I like that idea. Also, a book of poetry is a good one to keep in the car.
I always have the book(s) I'm reading with me plus the next in line if I know what it is. Then have my MP3 player with my audio books. Possibly a cook book that I'm planning a meal or two from. Use to carry my eReader but the Sony has horrible battery life even if it's not turned on. Horrible to be in a "book pinch" then find out your battery is dead!!
I almost always have my current book with me too, but the one day I don't think I'll have time to read will be the day I get a flat tire right?
Heather that is one of my fears; stranded in the car!! Only second to leaving my current read in a restaurant or hotel room to never see again!!Find the best places to have a book while in the car is in the drive thru at a fast food restaurant and if a train comes. Makes the wait so much more tolerable.
Heather wrote: "I almost always have my current book with me too, but the one day I don't think I'll have time to read will be the day I get a flat tire right?"I always have my ipod in the car with an audio book on the go. I do carry my kindle and/or my Sony in my bag wherever I go.
I read Caribou Island by David Vann in three short days. Very dark, relentless book but I enjoyed it. Now I'm reading I'm Sorry You Feel That Way: The Astonishing but True Story of a Daughter, Sister, Slut,Wife, Mother, andFriend to Man and Dog by Diana Joseph. It's a memoir and funny as heck at times! Next up is something about Bio Identical Hormone Replacement therapy to satisfy my doctor that I know what I'm asking for. It can't be any worse than the hot hell I'm in now!
