I can't believe its actually happening and I LOVE the title!

I'm really excited especially cause there will be a big Blackthorn Family!!!! And a Cartsairs being related to Jem?

The Blackthorns and their friends
So having run down exhaustively what the Blackthorn kids are named in Dark Artifices, and why, I thought I’d give the kindly fanartists of fandom a break and some descriptions. :)

Helen is described in City of Lost Souls. White-blond curly hair, blue-green eyes (those eyes are a hallmark of the family), petite, slightly pointed ears due to faerie blood in the family.

Mark: Same white-blond curly hair, but he has one blue eye and one gold. Tall, thin, has the same faerie blood as Helen, so rather delicate bone structure. Favored weapon: curved, single-edged blades like katanas.

Julian: Dark brown messy hair, blue-green eyes. No faerie blood here or in the rest of the family on down — he’s only half brother to Helen and Mark. Different mothers. He’s a little lanky, with high cheekbones. Bites his nails. Usually splattered in paint. Favored weapon: throwing knives, seraph blades. Seventeen years old.

Olivia: Brown hair like Julian, the same blue-green eyes. Long lashes and a cupid’s bow mouth. Where Tiberius is extraordinarily weird, Livvy is extraordinarily ordinary, at least on the surface. Underneath she’s peculiar as her brother, but in a very different way.  She and Tiberius are nine months younger than Jules. Favored weapon: poison darts.

Tiberius: Manages not to look like anyone else, which Julian puts down to sheer stubbornness. Black hair and gray eyes. When he and Livvy were born they had the same gray eyes, but hers changed and though the family were sure his eyes would also change color from gray to blue-green they never did. Has the same long lashes and cupid’s bow mouth as his twin sister though. Favored weapon: Livvy will kill you if you look at him funny, so why bother?.

Drusilla: Is only thirteen. She has the Blackthorn brown hair and blue-green eyes, but she is the only one of them to have freckles. Most of the Blacthorns are lanky and tall, but Silla is compact and will grow up curvy and short.

Octavius and Ariadne are so little — Tavvy is only six, and Ari five — but they both have the Blackthorn dark brown hair and blue-green eyes. 

The non-Blackthorns:

Emma has golden-blonde hair which she keeps long for sentimental reasons, but usually has braided back or up in a bun for efficiency’s sake. Her eyes are dark blue. She works extraordinarily hard at her training - her body is strong and tough, and she has a bad scar that runs up her right arm, that she’s both proud of and  a little self-conscious about. Telling blonde jokes in front of her is a good way to find yourself in the hospital. “Oh dear, did I just drop that giant broadsword on your head? I guess I did! Must be cause I’m blonde.” Favored weapons: the repeating crossbow, wind-and-fire wheels.

Cristina is Hispanic; she’s from Mexico City and is one of the few Institute kids who has a living parent. She’s got gorgeous black hair, though she keeps a long swatch of it dyed red, and dark brown eyes. Where Emma has a temper, Cristina generally gets angry only if you hurt someone she cares about. Then she smiles sweetly and plans to kill you in your sleep like a ninja. Emma was thrilled when Tina came to the Institute because it meant a girl for her to be friends with, and they’re very close. Favored weapon: chain weapons like surujin.

That’s not everyone in TDA of course, or even all the people the Blackthorns know, but it’s a start.

This is so exciting were getting to know so much about the characters

It just makes it that much more real!

I know it's like it's solid proof it's coming now

I can't wait! I can't wait! I can't wait! This is going to be sooo exciting! Also Emma and Jules are parabati and she falls in love with him, which is against the law of the Clave! *jumping up and down with excitement*

i mean come on!! If they are so against it then leave it alone!! she is a fantastic write and I can't believe all the jerks that think they can critisize a book THREE FRICKIN YEARS BEFORE IT COMES OUT!!!! You see what they did?!? Haters just put me in a bad mode and now I have ranted it all of on you!! Sorry

At the beginning I thought the exact same thing, don't read it if ur Gona act like that..but now I'm like well I'm Gona read it no matter what so go shove it lol

as long as you enjoy the book when it comes out the who cares what people have to say, all i know shes gonna make us be tortured all over again with the whole parabatai forbidden love. like i see no way out. they either chose to live not happy loving eachother or loose their shadow hunter magic . well i cant speculate whats gonna happen, but cassie is focusing on emma falling for her parabatai .

Exactly it might be about shadow hunters but its a whole unique story!

Nice reference to the cow. :D I personally am super excited for this book. CC is a fantastic writer and I'm in love with the shadowhunter world sooooo more books? yayay!

D'awwwww! I knew you guys could cheer me up!!! I can't wait to read it no matter what those people say and the only bad thing about it is i gotta wait like 3 years!!

Ya that is a bummer...but on the bright side...we'll be able to read CoHF and CP during the wait

I personally love that cc is writing more on shadowhunters. I was so sad that both TMI and ID are about to end soon. We only have one book left for each...So I am very excited that she's writing more.

Me two guys!! I cant wait for CoHF and CP but Im so sad there ending!!

Well, didn't Claire say that TMI was supposed to be a trilogy? Maybe she'll add another couple books to ID too :)

No sorry that can't happen she's made it clear there really is only going to be three books the ending is final :(

Sadness, I love tessa, I relate most with her out of any character I have ever read and Jem is baisicly perfect in my mind, you know aside from the whole dieing part, or maybe that makes him more perffect... IDK XD

I'm kind of glad that TID is a trilogy. I mean what would the books after CP2 even be about?

Ahhhhhhhh seriouslyI can never get enough of shadowhunters. I kept thinking about about what would happen to me after CP2 & CoHF , but now that Cassie is going to publish a sequel i just AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

Cp2 comes out March 19. 2013 and COHF comes out around the same time 2014

More members of the Carstairs family? I hope they are like Jem

What I'm trying to figure out is how Emma is related to Jem. Because as of now we are lead to believe Tessa can't have children. Or does he have relatives that we haven't met. I know in CP when they are walking in one of the clave meetings Tessa sees a woman that look sort of like Jem. But we know his parents died. Lots of ways Cassie and take this story.

I am pretty sure Jem has relatives. I heard Cassie mention it somewhere. I'll try to find where I read it. But we also don't know what Tessa is for sure. Supposedly she's a warlock that can shapeshift and her mother was a shadowhunter while her father was a demon. I think she could have children with a shadow hunter if she's a warlock couldn't she? I know two warlocks can't have children and neither can s demon and shadowhunter...

Ok, so I was on the DA site, and she said the book is set in 2012 after the evnts of City of Heavenly Fire and that the surviving characters will be making cameos in DA. It also said that the main character wants to be the best shadowhunter "since Jace". So I'm like. OMG does she kill off Jace???

Honestly, I kind of felt the same way when I heard about The Dark Artifices. But now that I've looked in to it, I feel much different about it. I'm REALLY excited now for it, I actually find the parabatai concept really interesting. plus "The Dark Artifices" is a really cool trilogy name. Oh yeah and there's a lot of Blackthorn kids in there...where are they coming from?

I agree with you at first I was like yay another then I was like I don't want this ruined for me but Cassie said she has so many different aspects of the story she wants to cover like this parabati love for one and its got me pretty excited

I personally think her books keep getting better and better! Just thinking about how different City of Bones is from Clockwork Princess! Gotta love her

TIF was "curl up in a little ball and have to do deep breathing exercises for an hour" good
Is it too much to ask for Lady Midnight to be better? Cuz the whole parabati love thing definitely has potential.

I do think her books just keep getting better and better!!! I'm really curious about the whole parabati thing... I get so invested in CC's characters and the world she has created!!

Tiberius has Gray eyes and black hair! Sound like anyone we know... like Tessa perhaps?
And another thing... I know Clare usually sticks to a relative name through out the series. Like City of this, City of that, Clockwork this, Clockwork that. How is she gonna do that with Lady Midnight? Man Midnight? Lady Sundown? I don't know.

The cycle hit the beach and spun out. Emma went into a rolling crouch as she flew free of it, keeping her elbows in, pushing the air hard out of her lungs. She turned her head as she hit the sand, slapping her palms down to roll herself forward, absorbing the impact of the fall through her arms and shoulders, her knees folding up into her chest. The stars wheeled crazily overhead as she spun, sucking in her breath as her body slowed its rolling. She came to a stop on her back, her hair and clothes full of sand and her ears full of the sound of the wildly crashing ocean….


What does it mean?

Okay....so there's a male TDA character named Jamie.....does this sound like a play of of Jace of the actual JCB? How original...

@Katrin I totally agree with you:) I absolutely love the Shadowhunter world, and I hope Cassandra keeps writing more stories about them! It's going to be torture to have to wait until 2015! ARGH!!!!!

Agreed! Why three years?! Im going crazy waiting for the movie (which I just bought tickets for :)) and City of Heavenly Fire. Now I have another thing on my shoulders. *sighs* I do hope she continues after TDA because she is a fabulous writer and has tons of fans with her.

I think Cassandra Clare said that Julian blackthorn is supposed to be sexier than Jace, in this series not Mortal Instruments.
