Zoealea, Could you give us an idea of what types of books you like: fiction, non-fiction, realistic, fantasy, coming of age, etc. etc.? It would help to give suggestions. There are so very many really terrific books out there.Well, I just briefly checked out your shelves:
I like
Life as We Knew It and The Dead and the Gone by Susan Beth Pfeffer
Into the Forest by Jean Hegland
The Green Glass Sea by Ellen Klages (might be more kids' but I'm an adult and I loved it)
Anyway, there are so many more I could recommend.
You might want to check out the shelves of members where you share a lot of books/book ratings in common.
I mostly enjoy YA Fiction (books by John Green, Maureen Johnson, Sarah Dessen, Scott Westerfeld, etc.). I don't really enjoy horror or mystery.
Depending on what kind of student population you have---the Twilight books, fantasy books by Terry Prachett, Paul Volponi writes urban fiction that is awesome---Black and White,Rooftop,
Rucker Park Setup, and
Hurricane Song
Sold by Patricia McCormick
Sharon Draper books
Bucking the Sarge by Christopher Paul Curtis
free verse novels by Sonya Sones
Dunk by David Lubar
Carolyn Cooney has good suspense books like Diamonds in the Shadows and Code Orange
Breathing Underwater by Alex Flinn
Jordan Sonneblick wrote Notes From a Midnight Driver
and any Walter Dean Myers books
to name a few---happy hunting!
I noticed you are reading The Hunger Games--that is one of my favorite books of the year. Some other books, that I thought were interesting along the Scott Westerfeld line would be:
The Declaration by Gemma Malley
Little Brother by Cory Doctorow
Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E Pearson (Similar in theme to Skinned. I haven't read Skinned yet, but same idea. Well written.)
Other books you might try:
Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr
Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin
Rules of the Road by Joan Bauer
The Earth My Butt and Other Big Round Things by Carolyn Mackler
One I just finished and loved was City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. It can be appropriate for a younger audience, but it was a fun book to read. I haven't seen the movie that came out this year, but I hope they stayed true to the book, because it was very enjoyable.
I hope that helps some. Good luck finding some good books. I have spent many hours just perusing the Teen Fiction isles of the local bookstores--I know how hard it can be to find some good books to spend your money on. I hope you find some you enjoy!
I highly recommend Markus Zusak (The Book Thief and I am the Messenger)and Gabrielle Zevin (Elsewhere, Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac)
I believe Elsewhere was her first teen book. It is captivating. I haven't had the opportunity to read Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac yet, but if it is as good as Elsewhere it will be a good read.
I didn't like Zevin's follow-up - Amnesiac- as much as Elsewhere. Read Life as We Knew It, Sonya Sones, and try out Michele Baldini and Lynn Pfeifer's Unraveled. All good starting places!
Graceling by Kristin Cashore or The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathon Stroud if you like fantasy. Hunger Games was excellent. The Graveyard Book or Coraline by Neil Gaiman. If you like the Hunger games you might enjoy The knife of never letting go by Patrick Ness. I liked Elsewhere and Unwind by Neal Shusterman.
I just finished reading the book "In Your Room" which was good, and the author Elizabeth Scott is quite good.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I bought Gilmore Girls Season 1 (impulse buy), Bliss by Lauren Myracle, Frenemies by Alexa Young, and like 6 books from a local used book store.
Yea, I just started watching them a while ago, and I bought the second season, and I am waiting until I can buy the third season.
It's really hard for me to pick just one. I have a little fan0crush on Jess, so any episode with him in it, I'm pretty ecstatic about.

I was wondering if you could give me some YA books suggestions. I just got some money for Christmas and I want to spend it on books, but when I go to the bookstore I can't seam to decide what to buy. So, yea, suggestions would be nice (paperbacks are proffered).
Thanks!
