Kaje Harper | 17410 comments Look through those YA LGBT shelves (or even better something that's not on our shelves) and see if there's a book you'd like the group to read. I'm going to leave the category fairly open - anything that is NOT a classic fantasy can go in this month's vote.

When you nominate a book please post a link, and ideally cut and paste the blurb of the book. For added bonus points tell us why you picked it. Is it a favorite you want to share? Something you'd like extra reason to try? Nominations are now open.

Kaje Harper | 17410 comments There's a book I'd love to nominate, but I haven't found it in ebook. It's Peter Peter by Kate Walker by Kate Walker

Pressured by his peers and society to conform to the stereotyped macho image, fifteen-year-old Peter feels both confused and repelled. His confusion and his horror increase when he finds himself attracted to his brother’s best friend, David, who is gay. Here is a daring, exceptionally honest novel about sexuality and the need to be true to oneself. Peter shares his every muddle and perception with us, and his candor just might help us find our own way.

This is set in Australia and I really liked the uncertainties of the narrator. So if someone knows an ebook source I'd love to hear about it. (My library does have a hard copy, but that's not good for everyone.)

Byron (byft) *LOL* based on this description, I'm not really sure anything I suggest is going to be worth it.. I want to read this.. (and my local bookshop might have it.. when I say local, I mean the GLBT one which is miles away!)

It is interesting - the opinions seem to be quite polarized on this one. Some people really like it and others really don't. I enjoyed her other two books, Thinking Straight which also had religion and homosexuality as a focus, and A Secret Edge so I'm curious.

No need to dig back in if you didn't like it at first, Matt. So many good books, so little time... Sometimes it's more interesting to discuss a book that not everyone loved.

If anyone else has suggestions, though, nominate away. I'd like to have a few choices for the poll by Sunday.

Ooh, good choice. I liked this one a lot.

Here's the blurb:

This is the story of me, Collin Murray, a bright, witty and charming L.A. teen who is cruelly transported to a small town in Iowa by parents who delight in my suffering. It tells the tale of my struggles against such obstacles as flannel, packs of bullies, lack of car, hoodies, crazy English teachers and vengeful former friends. It is an epic tale of survival in a savage denim wilderness.

I have found an ebook version of this now available from Kobo books in epub - http://www.kobobooks.com/ebook/Peter/... This should be legit (not like the numerous free pdf sites for which the writer would not get royalties.)

Kaje Harper | 17410 comments ***THE POLL IS NOW UP HERE.***

I'll let the vote run until the 3rd, because we were late getting nominations this month.
