What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

Honestly all I remember is that the main character was a girl who lived in a city (I think.. b/c she was taking public transportation) and she played the cello. There was mention of her going to someone's house for lessons and I think there was something about the person owning a bird? maybe not. Also there was a boy.. I don't remember if there was a bit of love there or not.

There also might have been a "scene" when she is on the bus thinking about how a story has to have a beginning, middle, and end.

It didn't have any illustrations. It was a chapter book... target ages maybe 8-12? oh and I read this book in the early-mid 90s although it could have been written in the 80s I suppose... I don't think it's any older than that.

Could it be the Mozart Season? The heroine (Allegra) plays the violin, lives in Portland where she takes lessons and is going to compete in a musical competition.

mm.. nope. It was specifically a cello and it was a little more kid-sy I guess. I remember it was specifically cello b/c there's also a scene where the girl is going to music class and seeing the little kids w/ the little cellos and she mentions starting off on violin and then moving to cello as she got older.
