Baylie I had no idea what to think about the ending of this book. I mean, she achieved her lifelong dream of reaching the ocean but she lost everyone she loved along the way. I guess I'm just curious as to others thoughts on it?

Gwynn White I thought its was utterly pointless! I remember putting the book down, turning to my husband and saying 'that was the stupidest read I've read in a long time'. It just left me feeling totally dissatisfied.

Ha!I thought the point was she lost everything she really needed that she always wanted to get away from in life by being selfish. But i had to go through the book like 5 times to get that it was indeed a stupid book but suspenseful

Danielle The Book Huntress I felt the same way as Gwynneth.

Kristin I think the point is that if she'd stayed in the village, everyone would eventually have ended up dead anyway, so reaching the ocean was this bittersweet thing. She's lucky to have survived, but also alone now that everyone she loves is dead. I think its a frustrating ending, but it's not supposed to be happy and perfect. Its a post apocalyptic zombie novel, for crying out loud. Did anyone really expect a happy ending? I think we are supposed to feel frustrated.

Olivia This book was one of the WORST books I have ever read. I don't usually say that I don't like books. Stupid, completely useless storyline, and horrible quality all together, I wouldn't recommend The Forest of Hands and Teeth to anyone. A COMPLETE waste of my time.

Amanda I enjoyed the ride this book gave. And I also think her selfishness got her to the goal she wanted ALONE. And the bittersweet ending made sense to me. How else would any of you wanted it to end?! Just curious.

Talking about horrible books.. never read FURY by Elizabeth Miles. Such a waste of my life. >.<

Samantha I loved this book. I loved the ride it took me on and i loved the ending. Mary's journey was to not find love or have a simple life...it was about knowing that there are better things out there like the ocean.

Terra I wish I had never read that book. Complete waste of time.

Vixen I hated the damn ending! I mean such a selfish MARY! >:|

The whole part on the beach at the end when she's thinking makes me mad. I mean she's all "my brother sacraficed his life for me, the guy I love died for me. I can't let my life go to waste. They wouldn't want that." BULL! She is selfish! They can't think anything because they're DEAD!!! I was pissed most of the book having to read her thoughts and what not...

And then the whole Travis scene when they are fleeing the damn platform-treehouse-things that were on fire! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!! Pissed me off! I was crying the whole time when I read how she got to him and everything yes, but I was also angry! A little too late to be picking him over the ocean Mary. >_> Can't have cake and eat it too selfish girl you! u_u

O_O! Oh and Jed! I can't believe he died! DX< REALLY! Last words to him "thank you" WTH! NO! I wish he would have at least lived. Then maybe I wouldn't have been so pissed.

-sigh-

I loved the book...it's just that Mary and her decisions pissed me off.

Adam This was an absolutely perfect ending for a zombie book. You always have that one infuriating character who puts their own selfish desires above everyone else's. And her she is the main character of her own book. But that's how a good zombie story should work. The foibles of our humanity consuming us whole.

Wonderful! I agree, she was incredibly selfish. And I cried the whole Travis scene too! lol

Stef Nissen I LOVED the ending. Personally, to me, it felt satisfying because Mary got what she'd always wanted, even though it meant sacrificing everything else along the way. Travis made her promise she would make it, and she did. He pushed her to reach her goals because he knew how important it was to her.
For a post-apocalyptic zombie novel, this is the best ending we could hope for.

Darien Mann I loved the book, but I did not like Mary or the ending. Mary was indeed a very selfish girl, and her thought process at the end made me mad. She left everyone she ever loved behind so that she can find the ocean, and got her brother killed along the way, and the scene with Travis dying? I love how she realized too late that he should of come first. She had no idea what a great guy she had. This is a good post-apocalyptic story, and the character and ending are very realistic in a sense that people will do whats best for themselves in the grand scheme of things.

Ariel Worst book I've ever read.

Veronica I thought it was a stupid, waste of time book - not because people died, but because selfish Mary lived. The world is infested with zombies, something that she learns is true when she finds the news clippings in the house she and Travis were trapped in. She knew right then that the zombies were a worldwide problem. That just made her dream of reaching the ocean stupid and non-sensical because there are going to be zombies there too. Does that make her re-examine her it's-only-about-what-I-want goal? Nooooooo. Not when there's still her brother who can yet be sacrificied for the ocean. Bleh! Jed should've let Mary die at the hands of the zombies when she ran through that last gate. THAT would have been a much more interesting and satisfying ending...if Mary had died but Jed made it to the ocean to finish her story. I have NO, ZERO, ZILCH desire to read the rest of the books.

Work_in_progress Yeah but it's not the ending i haven't read it yet, but there are several more books to the series here is the second one
The Dead-Tossed Waves (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, #2) by Carrie Ryan The dead tossed waves Maybe some of the other characters show up again.

Bailey Wareham The book has an amazing amount of potential to be a very suspenseful, jarring book, similar to a Hunger Games meets The Walking Dead. It definitely strings readers along to thinking the book will get better with each chapter however towards the middle and ending of the book each chapter felt more and more thrown together and lacking of excitement. All of which led to the ultimately disappointing end of the book. Up until the middle of the book I was expecting a good read. (Pun intended)

Jamie Kates This is the worst book I have ever read. I was so mad by the end. She was totally selfish, everyone that cared about died so she could get to see the stupid ocean. I bought the second book before I finished the first and I have no desire to read it at all.

Betsy~ISoldMySoulForBooks~ This was the first book that I had ever read that didn't have a HEA and because of it now I like to spoil the endings of other books because I don't want an ending like this book. It left me feeling empty and completely unsatisfied. When I finished reading it I felt like flinging it out the window but I couldn't because it wasn't mine it was from the library. *sigh* But I'm glad I never wasted money on the book.

Louise I'm only half way through and this book is terrible. It reads like really poor fanfiction.
