You liked that book so much that you recommend it.
Boys life and Swan Song.

message 2: by Char (new)

Char Ditto to both of those. They are my favorites as well.

Joanne Moyer (catwoman56) | 101 comments My favorites too ....
and I'll add Gone South as another possible read

Char I'm actually about to finish Wolf's Hour today.
It started off a bit slow, but now it's going full bore and I just want to sit down and read the rest in one shot. : )

Kylie (kylielowen) | 13 comments McCammon: Blue World -- it's a really amusing short story collection. Of course, I adore short stories in general. It's a great form. For all of you who like the in-depth, amazing Swan Song, this book will be particularly interesting. I think a few are just a couple pages long (and every bit as good as his novels in my opinion).

Non-McCammon: The Other by Thomas Tryon. It's one of favorite novels of all time (horror or otherwise). I reread it every 3-4 months like clockwork. Superb writing, uber creepy story. I think McCammon fans would appreciate both the story and the writing style. To be honest though, I recommend it to everyone because I love it that much. ;)

Kylie -- I too love Tom Tyron's The Other and even more Harvest Home which I always recommend to everyone

Kylie (kylielowen) | 13 comments Joanna, I liked Harvest Home alot too. The last 50 pages or so just kind got boring for me though. I should probably give it another read sometime.

I liked the tv movie/mini-series of Harvest Home as well (hubby found it someplace for me, taped off tv in the 80s). Bette Davis was perfectly cast! :D

I have to read this book someday.

I Love "The Other" and especially "Harvest Home." The TV movie, "The Dark Secret of Harvest Home" is fantastic and, apart from another amazing performance from the great Bette Davis, it also features a beautiful 19 year old Rosanna Arquette. What a colossal crush I had on her at age 15!

message 13: by Kylie (new)

Kylie (kylielowen) | 13 comments Lou, I strongly recommend The Other if you're going to read Harvest Home. Hard to imagine one without the other for me. ;)

Marc, seriously... I adore Bette Davis! Couldn't have been more perfect for the role. :) For anyone interested, it also stars a very young Tracy Gold. Rene Auberjonois (Benson and Deep Space Nine) plays Jack Stump too, which couldn't have been better cast!

Joanne Moyer (catwoman56) | 101 comments I just found out through Amazon that The Other is FINALLY being rereleased later this year and will also be available as an ebook -- Amazon also has a new edition of Harvest Home selling for $180 !!! yes $180 - not $18.00 -- unless , hopefully there's a printing error there .... I'm hoping to also see it show up as an ebook

I've read The other thanks.

Kylie (kylielowen) | 13 comments Joanna, $180 for a new edition? That seems rather ridiculous. Most likely a printing error... can't imagine a single reason why a new edition would be more than $20.

message 17: by Anji (new)

Anji (delenn40) | 26 comments Joanne,I would love to read this Thomas Tryon book, but have been unable to find a copy. with reference to non-McCammon novels which I think would be appealing,I found a wonderful read called 'The Passage' by Justin Cronin,it is an amazing tale of survival in a post-apocalyptic world,it is a lot different to the usual "humanity on the edge" saga published and as a first time novel,it is a remarkable accomplishment and I just did not want it to end! The follow up novel "The Twelve" is out this year. Well recommended!

The Other seems to be easier to find than Harvest Home but check your library. I have my original hardcover but I'm still hoping to see it turn up as and ebook if just to see a new generation get to read it

I read it many many years ago - it was one of my starts into horror and Robert McCammon but I haven't read it recently.

message 21: by Anji (new)

Anji (delenn40) | 26 comments I read Bethany's Sin many years ago,and although I personally, wouldn't rate it as one of my favs,it's well worth a read anyway.

message 22: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Bouchard (cindy_bouchard) | 3 comments Bethany's Sin is nowhere near as good as Boy's Life or Swan Song. It was readable, but more like something from John Saul....

message 23: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Moyer (catwoman56) | 101 comments Bethany's Sin just shows how much McCammon has grown as a writer over the years. It's still a good read but I agree it doesn't rank up there with Boy's Life or Swan Song. It was my introduction to Robert McCammon though so I at least thank it for that :)

message 24: by Charles (new)

Charles | 3 comments I want to thank you guy's for your input so I think I'll put Bethany's Sin on my TBR someday list for now. I think I'll read The Five instead.

message 25: by Bill (new)

Bill | 3 comments Swans Song and the following Matthew Corbett books! Queen of Bedlam, Mister Slaughter, The Providence Rider!

Of course, my favorite book of all time, Boy's Life!

Three unique stories the five, boys life and swan song that are screaming to be made into great movies.

You know it! Maybe Ron Howard should give "The Dark Tower" a rest ( not that it wouldn't be great movie, but no one's biting) and give some other great stories a try. I always thought that Mine would be great on the big screen as well. Audiences would also be ripe for They Thirst. And Usher's Passing.... and... so on... :)
