Becky Black (beckyblack) I do love a good end of the world story. I read The Stand last year and was gripped. Another favourite would be The Day of the Triffids.

I think I'm more interested in ones that deal with the disaster and the immediate aftermath and how people cope - or don't. But ones set many years later when what's left of society has taken on some very strange forms can be a lot of fun too.

Anne Tenino (annetenino) | 197 comments How does that translate to war? Like, do you like stuff set in war zones, where the mc's are personally involved? The best example I can think of off the top of my head is The Handmaid's Tale, but I can't think of any m/m right off the bat.

Becky Black (beckyblack) I've just been reading Bitter Harvest by Kim Knox, which is about a post apocalypse world where the uninfected survivors are at war with the "infected", who are mutated by nanotechnology. So that's an m/m one. Yes, I like war ones too. War is always an interesting situation to put characters in, I think.

Anne Tenino (annetenino) | 197 comments War definitely ups the believable situations you can put your characters in to create massive tension. I'll check that book out, thanks. :-)

Bookwatcher (bookwatcher) Just start Zombie Rain. A zombie apocalypse story! YAY!

Becky Black (beckyblack) Oh, I have gotta get that. Zombies! I love zombies! I'm determined to do a zombie story myself one day.

and it's been really good so far.

Edited
Yea I finished this one last night and all I can say is WOW it's awesome! If you really like Post-Apocalyptical stories, this one is great. The two main characters decide to re-build a better world.

Becky Black (beckyblack) Heh, just glanced at that and about a year ago I said I'd love to do a zombie story. Guess what I just submitted? :-D

Got a zombie bunny last September, which would not go away! It insisted I write it for NaNoWriMo. I did, finished the draft in December, edited in in February and March and sent it to my editor a couple of days ago. For a zombie bunny, it moved fast!

There is actually a Best M/M with Zombies Listopia list. It's its very own sub-sub-genre.

Gary | 1 comments A great Apocalyptical and Post-Apocalyptical book is Lucifer's Hammer by Jerry Pournelle and Larry Niven. It does not have any M/M in it but it reminds me of The Stand but without the paranormal stuff.

I do a lot of work with post-apocalyptic and dystopian societies...so fascinating that it calls to a lot of writers in this genre. I like After Midnight a great deal, which is #5 on the M/M Dystopian M/M SF list right now.

My Children of the Great Reckoning series is set in a post-apocalyptic world, but after a great deal of rebuilding and rethinking societal structures has been done. You might enjoy it.

Erica Pike (ericapike) | 16 comments Hi guys, I'm writing a zombie story for the LL event on the M/M Romance group. A technical question here, how much romance is expected in an M/M zombie story? I've put the focus more on the zombies and survival, so the romance between the two (human) guys is secondary. I've written it like I'd want to read it, but since I'm more of a sci-fi geek than a romance geek...

My thought is when you are going to give people something they may not expect, ease them into it with a warning or a tag or something. I've seen tags for those events like "no sex" or "no HEA" so maybe something similar?

message 15: by Venona (new)

Venona | 12 comments All my stories started simple, an MC with a simple life, and then exploded into an apocalyptic battle. I don't really know why.

Speaking of post-apocalyptic stories with gay things, how about The Dag and Cheedo the Fragile?

Just read Taoree. It's new and it was really good! I loved the boys, and the action, and the pacing! I think it falls in "apocalyptical" because [sort of] (view spoiler). Some reviewer mentioned it was like a War of Worlds/Walking Dead mashup. It's not exactly, but I guess that's sort of close.

C. Arthur (cshuey) | 1 comments Take a look at my new book "Seed of Harmony". Book 1 follows the story of two young human explores and their genetically engineered Panther teammates as they struggle to survive on an unexplored planet after being marooned there when their ship destroyed. Injured and alone, they boys must navigate hostile environs, life-threatening injuries and walking through a minefield of ancient alien artifacts. The thought of losing his closet friend makes Jar'ek realize that he is means much more to him and that he may never get the chance to tell him how he feels.
