☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments Put books you would like to nominate for our monthly read-alongs here. Once we get a couple nominations for the same book I will add them to our bookshelf & we will vote on them monthly to see what we will listen to together.

message 2: by Jennifer C (new)

Jennifer C I just got Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay on audio so I would like to nominate that :)

message 3: by ☻Nikki☻ (new)

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments Cool!!! I'll add it now.

message 4: by ☻Nikki☻ (new)

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments I would like to listen to Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer since I bought it on audio a few months ago.

message 5: by Jennifer C (new)

Jennifer C Cinder is not something that would interest me. :( sorry Nikki.

message 6: by Gavin (last edited Apr 22, 2012 11:17AM) (new)

Gavin | 64 comments Hello Nikki,
I also bought Cinder a few months ago. I really like the sound of it and will be listening to it sometime over the next month or so whether it wins the poll or not.

message 7: by ☻Nikki☻ (new)

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments No problem Jen. That's why it's only a nomination. I know we all can't like the same books. Just like Gavin, I will listen to it at some point even if it doesn't win :)

message 8: by Jennifer C (new)

Jennifer C with our challenges going in the other group, I say go ahead and do Cinder without me. :) I have plenty keeping me busy through our Book Lover's Hideaway reads.

Library Lady 📚 | 64 comments Both those books are on my list. I actually got Sarah's Key, but I had to return it to the library before I got a chance to listen to it. Let me know when the polls are up!

Library Lady 📚 | 64 comments Oh, right. I'm going to nominate Nineteen Minutes if that's okay with people. LMK if everyone has already read it.

message 11: by Jennifer C (new)

Jennifer C I have the paper version of that book Lena. :) So I will read along with you.

message 12: by ☻Nikki☻ (new)

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments I am waiting on Nineteen minutes from the library. They only have the print version though as well. I'd be glad to read it along with you as well. I planned on starting it the 1st of May (as long as it arrives from a sister library by then)

message 13: by Jennifer C (new)

Jennifer C That's when I am starting it as well. I already have my copy.

Library Lady 📚 | 64 comments I need to pick it up. By May 1st, I hope to be done with one of the two I already have going, so I can read with you!

message 15: by ☻Nikki☻ (new)

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments OK guys. Looks like a bunch of us have already listened to all the books nominated so far :D (me included). I would love to do an audiobook listen for July. Are any of you guys interested?

I am going to put up for nomination The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom

message 16: by Jennifer C (new)

Jennifer C I would be up for it. :)

message 17: by ☻Nikki☻ (last edited Jun 11, 2012 02:37PM) (new)

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments Whoo Hoo!!! Well, if nothing else we will do our own Jennifer :)

If anyone else has any audiobooks they would like to nominate please do. I will give us til Friday 6/15 for nominations. I will then post the poll for us to vote on which book. I want to give us enough time for everyone to be able to find the audiobook so they can participate.

message 18: by Jennifer C (new)

Jennifer C Sounds good. I am listening to a great one now which would have been good for discussion. At least I think so. ;)

If I come across others, I will let you know.

message 19: by ☻Nikki☻ (new)

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments What about this book too? The Chaperone by Laura Moriarty

message 20: by Brad (new)

Brad | 1 comments ☻Nikki☻ wrote: "Put books you would like to nominate for our monthly read-alongs here. I will add them to our bookshelf & we will vote on them monthly to see what we will listen to together."

I'd recommend:
Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk: A Novel

message 21: by ☻Nikki☻ (new)

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments Thanks for the nomination Brad. I'll add it to our list. Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk A Novel by Ben Fountain

message 22: by ☻Nikki☻ (new)

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments So glad you are joining us Michael. I'll add your book to our list as well.

message 23: by Michael (new)

Michael Leadingham Hi everybody, new here but I would like to nominate The Orphan Master's Son by Adam Johnson just got it so I will be reading it soon anyway.

Nice to meet everyone.

message 24: by Jennifer C (new)

Jennifer C I am up for the chaperone Nikki :) As well as the Long Halftime Walk.

message 25: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (kelly_l) | 1 comments Have I been a member here? LOL Am I an idiot or what? I am so new to audio that I don't feel qualified to nominate, but, I would love to vote and join in. So get some good stuff in there would ya? :)

Thanks for the invite. :)

message 26: by ☻Nikki☻ (last edited Jun 17, 2012 01:56PM) (new)

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments Make sure you all vote for our group read-a-long for July.

The poll will be open until Friday June 22. I will then share the winning book so everyone will have time to start on July 1st.

message 27: by Dhfan4life (new)

Dhfan4life | 15 comments I'll place a vote, but I'm still working through some library books right at the moment and will likely have to renew those here pretty soon. So can't really make a commitment to new reads right yet.

message 28: by ☻Nikki☻ (new)

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments Today is the last day to Vote for the book you want to read!! As of right now, we have a tie between The Kitchen House and The Orphan Master's Son. If there ends up being a tie at the end, I may do 2 reads and you can participate in whichever read you wish...or both. Are you all ok with this?

message 29: by Michael (new)

Michael Leadingham ☻Nikki☻ wrote: "Today is the last day to Vote for the book you want to read!! As of right now, we have a tie between The Kitchen House and The Orphan Master's Son. If there ends up being a tie at the end, I may do..."

Sounds good to me. I actually want to read both anyway ;-)

message 30: by ☻Nikki☻ (new)

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments OK guys. Looks like we have a tie and I've decided there will be two "Listen-a-longs" for the month of July. One for The Kitchen House and the 2nd for The Orphan Master's Son. You may choose to listen to only one or both. I will post threads for both books where you can discuss while you read. Try to be courteous to others though and either post what chapter you are at in the book (so you don't spoil it for those who aren't as far ahead) or put "spoiler" info in spoiler tags. If you your book did not win...fear not. It will be put back in the pool for next months poll.

Also, please continue to nominate books to add to our bookshelf so we can keep doing these "listen-a-longs" :D Thanks

great choices, missed them but I'll be looking out for august!

message 32: by ☻Nikki☻ (last edited Aug 01, 2012 02:57PM) (new)

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments If you would like to keep this going, please keep recommending the books you would like to have as a "Listen-a-long". We had a decent response for July but not many joined in on the discussion.

It's a little late to choose a book for August. So if anyone is interested, I will be taking nominations through Aug. 15th. I will then choose 3 random books from our bookshelf and make a poll for us to vote for the book we would like to read together (the books not chosen will be put back in the "hat" for the next month). Then we will start the read on Sept. 1st. Is anyone interested???

Mj | 17 comments How about The Violinist's Thumb: And Other Lost Tales of Love, War, and Genius, as Written by Our Genetic Code. Or, something by Maeve Binchy.

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

I would like to nominate Airman from Eoin Colfer. One of my favorites.

message 36: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) A tad controversial, but Jeremy Irons reads Lolita beautifully. It’s one of my favourite audio books ever

message 37: by ☻Nikki☻ (new)

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments Both have been added :)

message 38: by Jennifer C (new)

Jennifer C I have Madame Tussaud A Novel of the French Revolution by Michelle Moran on audio that I would like to nominate.

The other audio books I have are all parts of series so I am going to refrain from nominating them.

message 39: by ☻Nikki☻ (new)

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments I'm going to nominate Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter . I just picked it up at Audible.

message 40: by Mj (new)

Mj | 17 comments I read it vs listened and way too many characters and different plot lines. I find books with many characters difficult to follow. It was a good book though.

message 41: by ☻Nikki☻ (new)

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments Really MJ? Oh dear. I've already purchased it so I guess I'll have to see if it's confusing for me. If the narrator does a good job distinguishing the characters then I can usually follow. Thanks for the heads up though.

message 42: by Tomerobber (new)

Tomerobber | 98 comments Hello, I know this is a little late for the discussion but perhaps you might put it on the shelf for a future listen . . .

Push by Sapphire by Sapphire Sapphire

This audiobook was released as PRECIOUS on Audible.com and the movie version was released under that title as well. I had listened to the book before the movie was released and I preferred the audiobook . . the narrator was Bahni Turpin and was outstanding in bringing the character of Precious to life . . .

message 43: by ☻Nikki☻ (new)

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments I'll add it to our bookshelf Tomerobber.

How are you finding Beautiful Ruins?

message 45: by ☻Nikki☻ (new)

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments I haven't listened to it yet MJ. I was waiting to see if it came up for our group listen first. If it does win by chance, I'll wait & listen with the group. If not, I'll debate on whether to go ahead & listen or hold on to it. I have quite a few audio that I've purchased & haven't listened to yet so I'm ok with holding it for a bit.

message 46: by Monty (new)

Monty Smith | 1 comments My girlfriend has been listening to '50 Shades of Grey' Fifty Shades of Grey on audiobook. What can I say - feeling uncomfortable at times, little to graphic for me.... Not sure why she cant use her ear phones when listening to this book (or just read the book). Only two more books to go I guess. Feel free to contact me if anyone fancies listening rather than reading this 'interesting' novel.

☻Nikki☻ C (nikkic1998) | 480 comments Two more days to nominate your books then I will randomly choose 3 books for us to vote on for our monthly read. C'mon guys...keep those recommendations coming :D

message 50: by Mj (new)

Mj | 17 comments I'm currently listening to Where'd You Go, Bernadette and it's a riot. I'm loving it.
