Put books you would like to nominate for our monthly read-alongs here. Once we get a couple nominations for the same book I will add them to our bookshelf & we will vote on them monthly to see what we will listen to together.

Hello Nikki, I also bought Cinder a few months ago. I really like the sound of it and will be listening to it sometime over the next month or so whether it wins the poll or not.
No problem Jen. That's why it's only a nomination. I know we all can't like the same books. Just like Gavin, I will listen to it at some point even if it doesn't win :)
with our challenges going in the other group, I say go ahead and do Cinder without me. :) I have plenty keeping me busy through our Book Lover's Hideaway reads.
Both those books are on my list. I actually got Sarah's Key, but I had to return it to the library before I got a chance to listen to it. Let me know when the polls are up!
Oh, right. I'm going to nominate Nineteen Minutes if that's okay with people. LMK if everyone has already read it.
I am waiting on Nineteen minutes from the library. They only have the print version though as well. I'd be glad to read it along with you as well. I planned on starting it the 1st of May (as long as it arrives from a sister library by then)
I need to pick it up. By May 1st, I hope to be done with one of the two I already have going, so I can read with you!
OK guys. Looks like a bunch of us have already listened to all the books nominated so far :D (me included). I would love to do an audiobook listen for July. Are any of you guys interested? I am going to put up for nomination
Whoo Hoo!!! Well, if nothing else we will do our own Jennifer :)If anyone else has any audiobooks they would like to nominate please do. I will give us til Friday 6/15 for nominations. I will then post the poll for us to vote on which book. I want to give us enough time for everyone to be able to find the audiobook so they can participate.
Sounds good. I am listening to a great one now which would have been good for discussion. At least I think so. ;)If I come across others, I will let you know.

Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk: A Novel
Hi everybody, new here but I would like to nominate
just got it so I will be reading it soon anyway.Nice to meet everyone.
Have I been a member here? LOL Am I an idiot or what? I am so new to audio that I don't feel qualified to nominate, but, I would love to vote and join in. So get some good stuff in there would ya? :)Thanks for the invite. :)
Make sure you all vote for our group read-a-long for July. The poll will be open until Friday June 22. I will then share the winning book so everyone will have time to start on July 1st.

I'll place a vote, but I'm still working through some library books right at the moment and will likely have to renew those here pretty soon. So can't really make a commitment to new reads right yet.
Today is the last day to Vote for the book you want to read!! As of right now, we have a tie between The Kitchen House and The Orphan Master's Son. If there ends up being a tie at the end, I may do 2 reads and you can participate in whichever read you wish...or both. Are you all ok with this?

OK guys. Looks like we have a tie and I've decided there will be two "Listen-a-longs" for the month of July. One for The Kitchen House and the 2nd for The Orphan Master's Son. You may choose to listen to only one or both. I will post threads for both books where you can discuss while you read. Try to be courteous to others though and either post what chapter you are at in the book (so you don't spoil it for those who aren't as far ahead) or put "spoiler" info in spoiler tags. If you your book did not win...fear not. It will be put back in the pool for next months poll. Also, please continue to nominate books to add to our bookshelf so we can keep doing these "listen-a-longs" :D Thanks

great choices, missed them but I'll be looking out for august!
If you would like to keep this going, please keep recommending the books you would like to have as a "Listen-a-long". We had a decent response for July but not many joined in on the discussion. It's a little late to choose a book for August. So if anyone is interested, I will be taking nominations through Aug. 15th. I will then choose 3 random books from our bookshelf and make a poll for us to vote for the book we would like to read together (the books not chosen will be put back in the "hat" for the next month). Then we will start the read on Sept. 1st. Is anyone interested???
How about The Violinist's Thumb: And Other Lost Tales of Love, War, and Genius, as Written by Our Genetic Code. Or, something by Maeve Binchy.
I'll add The Violinist's Thumb: And Other Lost Tales of Love, War, and Genius, as Written by Our Genetic Code. We can add a book by Maeve Binchy. Anyone have a preference of which one?
I would like to nominate Airman from Eoin Colfer. One of my favorites.
A tad controversial, but Jeremy Irons reads Lolita beautifully. It’s one of my favourite audio books ever
I have
on audio that I would like to nominate. The other audio books I have are all parts of series so I am going to refrain from nominating them.
I read it vs listened and way too many characters and different plot lines. I find books with many characters difficult to follow. It was a good book though.
Really MJ? Oh dear. I've already purchased it so I guess I'll have to see if it's confusing for me. If the narrator does a good job distinguishing the characters then I can usually follow. Thanks for the heads up though.
Hello, I know this is a little late for the discussion but perhaps you might put it on the shelf for a future listen . . .

SapphireThis audiobook was released as PRECIOUS on Audible.com and the movie version was released under that title as well. I had listened to the book before the movie was released and I preferred the audiobook . . the narrator was Bahni Turpin and was outstanding in bringing the character of Precious to life . . .

I haven't listened to it yet MJ. I was waiting to see if it came up for our group listen first. If it does win by chance, I'll wait & listen with the group. If not, I'll debate on whether to go ahead & listen or hold on to it. I have quite a few audio that I've purchased & haven't listened to yet so I'm ok with holding it for a bit.
My girlfriend has been listening to '50 Shades of Grey' Fifty Shades of Grey on audiobook. What can I say - feeling uncomfortable at times, little to graphic for me.... Not sure why she cant use her ear phones when listening to this book (or just read the book). Only two more books to go I guess. Feel free to contact me if anyone fancies listening rather than reading this 'interesting' novel.
I've been thinking about reading The Violinist's Thumb: And Other Lost Tales of Love, War, and Genius, as Written by Our Genetic Code So I guess I'm with Nikki.
Two more days to nominate your books then I will randomly choose 3 books for us to vote on for our monthly read. C'mon guys...keep those recommendations coming :D
