Some of the vampires get powers in their next life, Dr.Cullen (head of the coven)isn't 100% sure, but he thinks that each human takes part of them to the afterlife(when they are vampire). Like he thinks Edward was already sensitive to other's thoughts of him and Jasper had the ability to influence others around him when he was a general in the South(Civil War. Thatts why he can control the emotion atmosphere. And Alice is a mystery, since she grew up in the dark.
