I just finished The Dime Museum Murders by Daniel Stashower.

A wealthy toy magnate is murdered in a locked, windowless study and the only one to blame is a animatronic toy. Harry Houdini and his brother, Theo, fall into the role of private investigator when they are called to offer their opinion into the card trick playing toy.

Worth the read!

4 STARS...really about 3 1/2 but I rounded up!

I just finished reading The Houdini Specter by Daniel Stashower.

I didn't think this one was as good as The Dime Museum Murders, which was the first I read in the Houdini series. I couldn't decide if the ending was just a little far fetched or just not what I was expecting. Apparently, the author had received some previous feedback about the ending as well as he addressed some of it in his afterword.

I read Specter and The Floating lady. I liked Floating Lady a bit more. Sorry that I'm not going into more detail, had oral surgery today and am zonked out. If you haven't read Silverman's 'Houdini!!' biography, you might like it. His Poe biography is excellent, too. I'm not sure if I would have liked the books as much were it nit for the fascination I have with Houdini, however, I couldn't find a copy of 'The Dime Museum Murders'...will check again. I think Stashower makes Harry a bit too much of a horse's ass, however.
