I read a head a little. LOL. I'm really intrigued in the whole Raffles thing, Bulstrode's world is starting to come apart, and though he is no main character I have a feeling that a lot of Middlemarch will be involved. I mean, Lydgate works at his hospital, Dodo is thinking of investing in the hospital, Farebrother is tied to both. Everyone is so intertwined at this point.
I still want to throttle Rosamond, but her brother Fred is looking better and better. Though Fred did have a close call that Farebrother saved him from at the Green Dragon.Poor Lydgate, I know that Bulstrode finally has paid his debts at the end of chapter 70, but something tells me that this is going to be nothing but trouble, especially now that Raffles is dead.
I was sitting there thinking how I just couldnt believe Bulstrode hadn't done anything to impede Raffles improvement....... and then there it was.
Haha, did we all just finish early then? Because I read ahead too.
I finished too, but I think our moderators are behind, so I posted it in the "schedule" of Middlemarch because I figured they would avoid reading the weekly updates for fear of spoilers.I am excited to learn what you two thought of it though, so hopefully we get to talk about it soon!
I just finished this section and all I can say is WOW! The poop is hitting the fan in the sleeply little town of Middlemarch. I can honestly say that once again I am so glad that I stuck with the book and that I'm going to finish.
Wow. Bulstrode deliberately not clarifying the doctor's orders and so allowing a man to die. He might have been in a sleepless state and very disturbed, but there is NO excuse for that. That amounts to premeditated murder, in my book. And I think Lydgate is going to end up taking the blame for it, especially since he took that money just then. Too many bad pieces in place! And I loved the scene with Fred and Lydgate at the Green Dragon (which I can't read about without thinking about LOTR, as a completely unrelated side note). Fred is edging into some of his old ways, toying with gambling again, and it's the sight of a respectable man acting totally out of character at the tables that gives him the smack to realize how terrible it is. And he wants to pull the unfortunate man back from all the trouble it can cause. Good for him! He's shown such growth, I love it!
I hate how Rosamond has made Lydgate feel that he is so hopeless, that he will have to gamble his way out to make everything turn out ok. Rotten girl!
