Loretta (lorettalucia) Oops, Kristi, I think you need to change the date, as 4/21 has passed. :)

message 3: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) lol..fixed it up.

Loretta (lorettalucia) @ Judy: That seems to have been published in the '70s and therefore likely doesn't qualify as a "classic" according to our (admittedly somewhat nebulous) rules. Would you like to nominate something else instead?

Unfortunately I have to agree...although I have been wanting to read Angle of Repose for a LOOOONG time...so maybe a side read??

message 10: by Becky (new)

Becky Oh dear, so conflicted over what I want to nominate. So I will go with the one that I think would generate interesting discussion.

On War by Carl von Clausewitz

I am in the same boat, ladies. Let's try and nominate it as a side-read. Angel of Repose for a side read!!!! On the other hand, it is a modern classic. Just saying ...:-)

message 12: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) Judy wrote: "Side read sounds good for Angle of Repose and I'd be happy to lead it, too. :-)"

Lets look at it as a side read...can you message me a schedule? I'll approve the schedule and then we can post it as a side read!

For schedules we usually look at about 50 pages per week, but break the sections at chapters(k, I know I sound dumb there...). Write it out with dates (beginning and weekly) and then I will approve (or adjust) and post it up for everyone to get in on!

Yay!

me too, I don't think I can do it alone, I need you guys :)

message 18: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalucia) Ack, Judy, sorry to keep doing this to you, but it seems that the vast majority of editions of Winesburg, Ohio are 260 pages or less. There is some wiggle room in how long the books have to be (i.e. if one edition is 450 pages and one 550), but seeing that most editions of this novel are quite short, I don't think it qualifies as a Chunkster.

message 19: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalucia) Perfect! Sorry, feel like I've been such a hard ass today. :-P

message 20: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) lol...man, I'm kinda glad I had food poisoning, I don't like being the hard ass. Thanks Loretta!

message 21: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) Nah, she's a softie...and the's why we love her! Just like me, she hates being the bearer of bad news...

message 22: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) Only 2 more days to get your votes in!!

message 23: by Everyman (new)

Everyman | 885 comments By votes, do you mean nominations? If you mean the actual poll, I can't find it.

message 24: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalucia) She meant the nominations. The poll will be posted tomorrow.

message 25: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) yeah...what Loretta said...lol. Sorry for the confusion.

message 26: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalucia) Okay I'm going to post the poll now. Expect the email announcing it in about 30 minutes.

message 27: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalucia) All, please remember to revisit the poll as we get closer to the deadline. The top four are all very close, and with how close they are, we might need a run-off poll. If you want to change your vote, now is the time to do it.

message 28: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalucia) Looks like The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky The Brothers Karamazov has won.

How does everyone feel about May 20 as the start date?

message 29: by Sera (new)

Sera Works for me - thanks, Loretta!

message 30: by Zulfiya (new)

Zulfiya (ztrotter) Wow, it is a Russian book. I believe I have to squeeze in this exploration of controversial human psyche into my reading schedule:-)

message 31: by Bob (new)

Bob Looking forward to re-reading BK - one of my favorites when I read it in my 20s. 30 years later, though, it takes a bit of a push to get me to pick it up again! So thanks for the nudge, group-mates!

Is it just my imagination, or is everybody here also a member of Readers Review, 1800-1910?

message 32: by Becky (new)

Becky I'm not familiar with that one.

message 33: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalucia) @ Bob: I still am, technically, though I haven't read anything with the group over there since Oliver Twist at the very end of last year.

I am:-) Classical chunksters were mainly written in the 19th century; thus, the faces may look somewhat familiar:-)

message 36: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalucia) Sorry I haven't posted the schedule yet, everyone.

Are we still okay for starting on Sunday if I only post the schedule tonight? Or would you like to wait an additional week?

I think whatever works best for you, but another week wouldn't hurt.
